I feel that watching Cdramas most of the time. It's usually so obvious when they're dubbed, since their visuals…
I've read his Cantonese being awful is the point. It's supposed to be endearing how hard he tries despite being bad at it!
But it really doesn't make sense for a Chinese-American to be worse at English than everyone else. Even her Chinese had to be dubbed because she's Thai. They really couldn't have found another actress for this role? 😅

I came here to see if other viewers were bothered by Maggie's thick accent. I didn't understand half of what she said!
All the other actors spoke better English than her, even the secretary, a very minor role. Her character is supposed to be US-born and raised, so her accent doesn't even make any sense for her. Asian-Americans don't sound like that.
She looks unrecognisable to me, as I just finished a rewatch of Dating in the Kitchen, before watching this show's…
Sadly that's the nature of the entertainment industry anywhere... see the buccal fat removal trend for US American stars for example. It feels like every year certain facial features become trendy and celebrities get cosmetic procedures to replicate them on their own faces even though they are already pretty.
Personally, I think Zhao Lusi wanted to change her image from cute girl next door to a more "sexy" grown-up woman, hence why she changed her face and style accordingly. I loved her original look too and wished she would have kept it.
She is very beautiful in Chinese beauty standards actually maybe not in ur western one 🙄
Oh, it's interesting to hear the lead actress isn't considered a conventionally attractive woman in China.
From my shallow (Western) understanding of Chinese beauy standards I would've assumed she fits all of the typical ones like the big eyes, double eyelids, pointy chin etc. and is a conventional beauty, haha. It just goes to show that you won't truly understand a culture just by reading about it on the internet, you have to actually live in it and know its language.

Really enjoyed this one and I didn't even plan on watching it as it's not my favorite genre.
It had some logic errors and was overly dramatic/over-the-top at certain points but I didn't really mind since that was obviously the tone the director was going for. Loved the fast pace and intensity of the story, the focus on revenge and scheming as well as the portrayal of different family relationships, good or bad.
Another thing I really appreciated were the storylines for the middle-aged female characters. Though I'm not at their age (yet lol), I liked the message that you're never too old for second chances and turning your life around.
The only thing I wished had been written differently is the leads' romance... I always love me a good FL-centric plot but sometimes the ML here felt more like her pretty accessory than a secondary main character and his own person. (Admittedly, there are more Cdramas that have this problem the other way round, giving the ML more agency and a more compelling storyline than the FL despite BOTH of them being main characters, so I won't complain too much 😅)
Am I the only person that didn't like this? I felt like the FL character was missing something. I've seen strong…
The ML also had flaws that contributed negatively to their relationship, e.g. keeping important things from her or lying to her until the last episode, but you only complain about the FL's flaws...
...............He's not even that good looking for anyone to get outraged over him being not average enough looking…
Where are you from? In my area, East Asian men are pretty rare. A tall Korean guy would definitely attract attention around here. At the very least from Asian drama and Kpop fans 😆
And ngl, it's kinda odd to mock Korean beauty standards as a drama fan considering K-dramas literally only promote people who fit their beauty standards 😂 Idk why I keep seeing people on this website who obsess over Korean stuff but also express such disdain for Korean culture...
Love the cast but not the director. I've watched almost all his historical dramas and they're either downright bad or just mediocre. I'm really hoping this one has more budget and better script than his other projects because Wang Xingyue and Julia Xiang deserve it.

Typical double standards by Cdrama viewers 😓

Song Zuer is already 26 though, not 16, and Liu Yuning is not that old. The pearl-clutching this time doesn't even make sense.
