I actually had so much fun reading this ahahah You're great at defending your point of view and personal tastes!…
Ah, I’m glad! I hope you got a few good chuckles out of it! Thank you! Hshs, I’ve spent a lot of time researching the effect of horror on the brain (lots of people accusing my parents of abuse for letting me watch it young????) which is partly why I’m able to just “no” hshs.
Psych thrillers are goooddddd. Have you seen parasite? 100% rec if you haven’t. Can’t think of any other psych-thrillers off the top of my head.
Meanwhile the same people will binge anime as if it’s going out of fashion [eye roll]. I don’t get this entitled societal view that you’re allowed to shame, belittle or even bully people for their likes, when you consume the same country’s content, but because it’s different to yours, you’re allowed to sit and just attack them? It’s so weird ><

Ah, they really do. If you watch horror not just around October people honestly will ask you if you're a serial…
Honestly, if possible, just go! I used to never do things without being with people, but eventually was like "i'm not missing this" and went alone and it was one of my best memories! If its possible, honestly just say f*ck it and go. Some of the best memories you'll make!
Hshs I'm the exact same, bets on who gets to it first xD
Yes! Let's!!

First of all, it was a great read. Also, since you said that you have watched horror films from 45 countries,…
Also, meant to say thank you! But got rly caught up in recommendations hshs. Thank you! It's nice to know people had a giggle and enjoyed reading this.
You're welcome and I hope you have an awesome day and I hope you enjoy the recs!

The sole purpose of these lists is to help fellow MDLers find new dramas to enjoy! I hope this list of ours will…
That's true! I really hope people find some good shows from here ^^

Added everything that was missing that people added to my list and deleted my list. Sorry again, I didn't mean to double create ^^

Country wise, I like Indonesia a lot! It's a different horror dynamic which is pretty fun to go into (I always rec watching a few mediocre ones first to get used to the new dynamic so when you get to the amazing ones, they don't fall flat bc you aren't used to the dynamic!)
Film wise specifically, Britain's 28 Days Later series. I'm a fan of the Inisidious series (I actually liked all 4, even as the series went a bit down). Found footage, I like this obscure film called Crowsnest (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2180333/) - don't mind the rating, I find on IMDb, horror is always rated BADLY, like the worst films have like 9/10 and the good ones are 3/10 bc non horror fans watch them and are blown away by rly mediocre ones or find the rly intriguing ones boring bc they aren't used to horror tactics.
The Ju-On series (japan, obviously), really obvious one but I adore that series a lot.
America's Hush, amazing example of a strong female lead, especially considering she's disabled (as a fellow deaf like her, I found it bloody amazing)
You're Next (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1853739/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)
and also The Invitation (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2400463/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)
Also, one more for good measure, absolutely adored Adam Chaplin (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2175535/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) Italian gore fest, hardly any speech is needed for the plot (if you can't find it with subs, the film explains its plot enough to not need them)

Hshs I couldn't resist xD I love a good horror especially when it's a book and it makes you paranoid of what's…
100% ahhhh. I need to read more horror manga, that’s a challenge for this year hshs.
A journey just… a journey like “this is a really wild thing and feels like I walked a marathon dealing with it” :’)
Also 100%. And no these people watch subbed anime, I watch it with them… it’s wild, drives me insane. Like I completely understand why people watch subs/dubs but when it’s I watch subs for this but subs on that annoy me? Make it make sense?
Hshs, I haven’t gotten to Singapore/HK horror just yet. I’m currently working through the Japanese/South Korean ones I missed and starting on Thailand’s horror but I might have to push The Eye up my watch list!

Hi! :) Can you recommend books with horror genre with murder tag? I can’t stand contents with ghosts in it and…
Sure thing! I'll go through my good reads this week and PM you!

And that’s completely fair and valid! Tbh, I was raised on goth/metal rock etc as a kid and I saw a lot of weird…
I agree. The acting carried it a lot for me, not going to lie. Good film but definitely could have been much better. Wish I'd gotten a chance to see it in cinemas though

ISTD is drama/thriller but from what I've heard about it, it has a few horror tropes so *unofficially* some people class it (not as an official genre, but as a like fan given medal almost)

Hshs, I'd be interested to know her thoughts! I know a lot of horror fans have similar stories! Hope this helps her "feel seen" or know she's not the only one that deals with the bullcrap and such, if she has to face this herself

Let me get this out of the way, the things you like about horror, I don't :P. I only watch horror if my peeps…
And that’s completely fair and valid! Tbh, I was raised on goth/metal rock etc as a kid and I saw a lot of weird music videos (Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, if you know, you know), so my Dad just let me watch horror as a kid (I think I started around 5?) so my tastes did get cemented pretty young and other stuff just seems very mild to me. I don’t go out my little box much bc although I’ve seen some awesome content that isn’t my thing usually, I find myself bored a lot
Some zombie content is brilliant horror (28 Days Later series,,, one of the best British horror films ever) but I agree. Zombie content is more about who can f up more and die first now a days than actually making you paranoid you’re going to wake up tomorrow in the middle of the apocalypse… haven’t seen a decent zombie horror in a while (and I will always be mad about Train to Busan bc it was a GOOD film but the director and writer were too lazy and let the tropes carry it, it could have been so much better and I will DIE ON THIS HILL).

Usually, there isn’t much. Most horror fans will stay quiet till like October and then it’s completely normal for everyone to wanna be scared and haha you’re a normal person not some pyscho! But honestly most of the year round more recently (it happened quite a lot 2000-2004 and then filtered out but it’s come back with a VENGENACE these past 2/3 years) some people get reallyyy weird with you. I want to go back to the time it was normal to grab some pizzas, an almost deadly amount of soda and gack your insides up as you watch a Saw marathon with friends, that was PEAK horror entertainment man (especially as people get queasier because of the grease and the challenges get worse…. We used to put bets on who would ahem “empty themselves” first >< some of my best late-teen memories, honestly).
It used to be normal when the American versions of films started coming out, I don’t know what changed and I really goddamn miss that casual Friday night horror film bash.

This ugh. It feels like Satanic Panic all over again and I’m losing my mind, honestly. I don’t see war film fans being ostracised bc obviously they know how to build bombs? Or what about the crime fans who are obviously going to be a robber, sex pest, etc? No? The hypocrisy is a bunch of sh*t. I’ve started treating people the same now. “Oh u watched this movie concerning [act] does this mean you’re going to [that act] me” and proceed to embarrass them and point out how fkn stupid they’re being.
Don’t even get me started on the sh*t with Trump and the video games ugh. That’s 27 articles within itself.

I don't mind it when its like "ah i'm not keen on horror" like yes thank you for being normal in this convo and def. I mostly don't speak out anymore and it's so isolating to a degree it's just :(
If you see it before me, I'd be interested in what you think!!

WOW! This was just what I needed to read! Loved your article! I'm not the biggest fan of horror movies, however,…
Hshs, I’m glad you did! I’m making a “not so scary/milder” list at the moment, would you like me to send you it when it’s done?
It’s Hitsuji to Okami no Koi to Satsujin (https://kisskh.at/38631-hitsuji-to-okami-no-koi-to-satsujin) I don’t know if it’s been released with Eng Subs yet, and it bugs me because I really want to watch it xD

You really want to talk with them but you know if you do it’s just going to be “YOU WHAT!!!!!!!!!” (also is it just me or do “but subs?” arguments come again Asian drama fans as well by the people who also watch subbed dragon ball z or whatever?) Like we just wanna watch our stuff dude ;w; let us LIVE
Thank you!

Now, this article I feel on a spiritual level. I'm over 30 years old, and have been a horror fan since I was about…
Mini rant away! This article was an entire mini rant and it’s nice to know I’m not alone in this xD
I’m at early 20s and watching since I was about 5 and boy, do I feel that time frame. You ever do the thing where you’re watching something and you flashback to like 15 like “oh yeah I remember this now, it’s so bad I don’t even remember watching it”? The Worst.

Oh god, I love true crime and the looks you get admitting that. Well, no, part of my interest in true crime is if 27 people got murdered hitch hiking, I know not to go hitch hiking. True crime isn’t just interesting, it’s actually life advice wrapped up in one as well, and some people would be amazed the amount of things they can learn from it. But hey, what do I know, I just get a kick of people being killed apparently :D

I’ve managed to get myself a nice online community now but it is bad sometimes; especially in situations like this. I’m pretty sure whenever I hear the topic movies come up on I seize up and just “nope nope nope nope nope nope time for a coffee”.

I have no idea where it came from; it all popped up like 2000-2004, but disappeared and it just came back like a storm recently? It did occur but not as much as it has done recently. It’s quite scary. Everyone’s watching The Untamed but no one’s running around with Chinese swords and stabbing people but the moment it’s a “dodgy” media we *must* be evil people… Drive me insane.

(Also, I don’t recommend knitting whilst watching… the amount of dropped stitches because of jump scares…. [deep silence]).
I’d say that makes you a good person; the elderly are a minority often ignored, so definitely a good thing!
(also please god give that cat some snuggles for me ;w; good kitty)

Okay first of all I must say that I am so impressed by you! This part: "400 horror films and counting, from 45…
Hshs, thank you! That’s a statistic I’m pretty proud of. According to themoviedatabase and my 2,374 ratings (films AND shows, worldwide), horror makes up 16.45% of watch I watch with Thriller coming in second at 11.14% xD. I love being scared.
Fair enough! You do you and get that nice light fluffy feel!
People are so entitled nowadays, I’m pretty sure it all just links into that. “You watch something I don’t? How dare you?” Or something like that. Or that “satanic panic” of heavy metal music (guilty as charged) and video games (guilty as charged) and horror (…guilty as charged) makes you a bad person – (sometimes it’s really not hard for me to see where people are coming from xD)
I get the same with Korean pop and it’s like dude come on it’s a bunch of music why do you care. Drives me up the wall.
And you’re absolutely right. I don’t understand why people are so opinionated on other people’s likes and lives; as long as no one is actively being hurt, then who gives a damn?

First of all I didn't know there were people who judge you like that for enjoying horror movies. That's insane!…
Ah, they really do. If you watch horror not just around October people honestly will ask you if you're a serial killer and it's like "..... huh". There's so much stuff I've been accused of, it's just remarkable.
I'm not 100% as I haven't seen it yet, but I'm pretty sure it's the Hong-Kong/Singaporian movie The Eye (2002)! https://kisskh.at/2269-the-eye
Watching this one soon, so if I get a chance before you, I'll let you know if it's right or wrong ^^
