As far as I know, the story of the "sequel" has nothing to do with the first one at all. (Most ridiculous part: It isn't even about the profession of interpreters anymore. It's about diplomatic negotiators.) Other than Yang Mi and Huang Zi Tao, the rest of the cast currently listed are most probably wrong too. (As much as this was officially announced as a "sequel" of Les Interpretes, it simply doesn't make much sense. Just saying~)
I still love this drama so much up till the end. It really didn't disappoint the canon in general. Though there may be certain changes. The ending leaves me hopeful for a sequel yet also very worried what they are going to do with Ji Bai. But it seems like there will be a sequel nevertheless...it just better happen. Because I don't want to part with Xu Xu and Ji Bai yet. I haven't been so invested in a drama in the longest time.
Also, we need to know what Ji Bai whispered into Xu Xu's ear in the final episode?? ? (or did I missed out anything) We need a sequel okay. Desperately.

I read an interview which was done with Wang Zi Wen and Wang Kai, and both of them were talking about how there's much less romance in the drama compared to the book. And it seems like they might be right after all. Xu Xu and Ji Bai's relationship in the book developed to the extent they cohabited. If anything, they are cute in the book and also has good chemistry in the drama, so I can't wait for them to get together in the drama too~

Indeed! We barely got to see Ji Bai reflecting on his feelings towards Xu Xu, even though we may see hints of it. I knew they were cutting back on the romance in the drama but I still feel that's quite a pity. I looked forward to the drama's portrayal of the story after they got together. Don't think I've heard news of a second season so far either?
Really really impressed by and happy with the adaptation so far, as a fan of the book, and despite being slightly skeptical over the first few episodes. All the characters are written and portrayed so well, even the side characters.
As much as I enjoy the slowburn between Xu Xu and Ji Bai, I'm starting to get worried about their romantic development, because Ji Bai is the one who's supposed to realise his feelings and confess first - but they don't seem to be following the novel's romance pacing...?? ;~;
I haven't watched it yet, but based on what everyone says it sounds like it's the new replacement for Boss & Me,…
My Amazing Boyfriend is actually an adaptation of a Chinese novel of the same title actually. but I do see all the uncanny similarities with My Love From Another Star haha most probably inspired

I personally prefer Boss & Me than this one in terms of the drama versions. :x Both are good in their own rights though. :) Another Gu Man's work which was adapted is My Sunshine, you could check out the drama but it's probably the most different one from these two.

imo, it's really more attributed to the style of gu man's novels. they're always lighthearted and idealistic. while a lot of other modern chinese romance web novels tend to be largely cute and fluffy too, gu man's style of stories is still pretty unique on its own. a huge bulk of cdrama romance isn't always like this, i guess.
Does the game in this drama really exist? if it does can anyone tell me how to get on it.
i tried the mobile version of the game once... but i couldn't register of course, because you need a china handphone number. but there's an option to play in a sort of a one-off temporary mode (aka you don't need to register for an account and you just play this particular character once). it's called 新倩女幽魂 but i'm not sure if there's a desktop version of the game. (edit: there IS a desktop ver)
I watched it and enjoyed it. It was rather cute to watch. Notably, there was a part in the show in which both Yang Yang and Zheng Shuang talked about hoping to work together in a drama some day. And here they are! Which is kinda cool. :)
Too much sweet, it's like crunching of sugar. At first I thought, it could be something like You've got mail.…
i had read the book, and i personally think they followed the events quite closely, compared to a lot of other recent cdramas adapted from novels. my sentiments echo those of a lot of the chinese netizens. in fact, chinese netizens' response to the drama, from what i've seen seems relatively positive even though there are people who don't like it, for understandable reasons. (i don't think it's the best adaptation and story either). but it's definitely not entirely poorly received in china.
i agree with you too about it being way too idealistic! which is my fundamental issue partly but sometimes we just need lighthearted and dreamy dramas like this to take our mind off reality! i personally do enjoy it for its entertainment value, but it is most certainly not the most enlightening and realistic drama. there are simply so many different drama types. this just isn't the kind which is gonna be reflective of the harshness and reality of the world.
As a really big Itakiss fan (primarily the manga and Love in Tokyo ver), I love your review, it's really accurate. I totally agree with it being a more accurate dramatisation of the manga in terms of characterisation and mood etc, even though they did not adapt as many stories in the manga as ISWAK/TKA did. This is also why I prefer LiT much more than ISWAK. I also love your analysis of their relationship, which explains why they're one of top OTPs! Thank you for the amazing review!! :)
I adore the male lead a lot (after his attitude changed), and the dynamics of the lead couple (for them being…
If Jia Yang's character were to behave like typical skeptical male leads who never trusts the fem leads, then there is really going to be nothing worth staying for this drama. Hahaha
There are still promising parts of his character and the leads' relationship from what I see from the trailer, but of course they were still met with some conflicts between them along the way. The real concern I have is still everything else in the drama, which brings about so much negativity in the drama, eg. Jia Ming, Xiao Hua, Jia Yang's mum, Qiao Fei's illness, etc etc. I hope things wouldn't turn out so unbearable, and hopefully Jia Yang will stay likable (I'm literally still watching for him). I have no doubts about the ending being happy for the leads. They can't do worse to us. (I hope) :'D

I think I have the most faith in Jia Yang's character out of all of them rn, I have no qualms about him being changed for the better (his renewed attitude is absolutely the only thing which is still making me deliriously happy about the show) but pretty much everything else in the story is against his favour, which is really upsetting. Lol. Especially with Jia Ming getting increasingly disgusting as he starts to stalk and cling onto Qiao Fei for now. There is going to be too much negativity it's taxing. Sighs. The only thing worthy of being happy about is indeed that he still has strong faith in Qiao Fei. :')
I'm impressed by Huang Xuan's acting too! Jia Yang's arrogant personality from before, and his softened character now, are both believable. Props to him indeed.

Let's hope for the best haha :)

but they never got together yet within the duration of the drama, and was only heavily implied to be involved more than platonically haha.
and yeah the back door line does suggest something applied to the context if you know how they have something more between them

Yeah. I'm continuing as far as it takes me. :)
