Same. I would watch his other shows. But because he's not so geared towards romance dramas (which I am inclined to choosing when it comes to cdramas), I haven't managed to really watch his other works, apart from Les Interpretes.

Haha I know, I started Imperial Doctress for him (and Wallace Huo) but I just haven't managed to move on beyond episode 1...it would still be interesting to watch him as an antagonist though. I'm more hesitant because of the plot. I heard it isn't that great as compared to the same scriptwriter's Ban Shu Legend and Legend of Luzhen. From some reaction posts I saw on Weibo back then when it was airing, it does seem like a mess.

Tribes and Empires is definitely one to look forward to, seems like a pretty quality production. I'm personally not as certain if it's my cup of tea, but I'll keep it at the back of head. I probably want to watch Love is Not For Sale eventually (since there's Olivia Wang too)~

Hahaha yes I thought the same too! He isn't that great an actor but he pulled off Dong Hua quite well. I think it's a role which relatively suits him, so he managed to have a pretty good grasp of it.

Indeed. He sort of became the limelight of this drama because his performance was that good (so definitely not his fault haha). aww I haven't seen that clip. It's really precious! I follow him on Weibo, and I get the feeling too that he's really modest and hardworking, which is also what make me admire him, on top of his talent.

Yeah, Huang Xuan is really good, and this is the drama which made me like him. I'm surprised I managed to pull through it despite the trainwreck, and had no intentions to drop it back then haha.

Yup, Vengo's in this. It's this role which quite a lot of people seemed to have a bad impression of him thereafter (but somewhat redeemed by his portrayal of Di Jun). I guess it was because 1) his character was not the most likable; somewhat of a jerk though an amusing one imo 2) his acting here was...ummm... Many people seemed to complain about it.

You can probably stop at ep 20+ hahaha. It's really good up till there! Tbh I really adore the premise and the leads, but it's really the second half which ruined it, and I would rather pretend it all didn't happened.
If anything, Huang Xuan is worth watching it for.

The drama's Dong Hua and Feng Jiu are largely reinvented from, what I've heard? Apart from their story line, there is also a slight difference in the characters, as compared to the book. So apart from their names, it seems to be mostly the drama scriptwriters' take.

Yes @ chemistry :( Hahaha I have to agree Feng Jiu's character can be a little annoying for how much she persists but I can still see the rationale - it's how her character is, and I can understand. That's why I have to say FJ/DH may not have been pulled off as well if not for their casting. :')

Yeah... It's frankly quite a quality production to speak of independently but it's ultimately still in support of a plagiarist work. It sucks that it has to be this way.

I don't really have anyone else in mind since I really adore Dilraba/Vengo, and I haven't thought about anyone else. Though I have a friend who told me she thinks Kevin Yan might work as Dong Hua as well, haha. Just speaking of this hypothetically.

No worries, news of the scandal seems very much contained within Chinese-language community as far as I know? I barely see people talking about it on English-language communities.

I haven't heard about the crediting, but I also feel it's unlikely when TQ never cared about acknowledging.

I have a feeling that what you said about the news of the production team's "crediting" might have been mixed up with the news of the drama team crediting their unauthorised use of a traditional opera soundtrack in the drama, which they only apologised for after the drama was done airing. Actually, the novel's plagiarism scandals have been around for YEARS already - it's also quite infamous because the series is pretty popular. I heard that Pillow Book was also accused of plagiarising another book by the same author of the book which was plagiarised by Ten Miles of Peach Blossom.

As much as we can still argue that the actors have limited choice in participating in the drama (especially when a good number of the actors are in this drama because they belong to the company which is involved in investing/producing it), the production team probably still bought the adaptation rights despite knowing of said accusations. Given its strong fan following, the production clearly would be very lucrative so I can see why they might not have care much about the ethical issues involved and just went ahead with it.

I would just be watching from afar and see how they're gonna pull off the adaptation of Pillow Book while munching on my box of popcorn. :)

I knooow (I frankly don't fancy any of them either hahaha. Apart from the fact that Dilraba and Vengo are already THE FJ and DH to me). I have also read that the actress herself clarified that she may not cast herself? Either way, I still wouldn't want to see it happening.

I must be very honest, I don't wish to see Dilraba/Vengo participating in the adaptation of Pillow Book because of the series' plagiarism scandals. 1) It's plagiarism 2) The actors are already suffering backlash simply for being in this drama adaptation at all for that fact. There's also the fact that I heard the novel isn't that good. I already like the drama's take on them. Just my two cents here.

Since Dong Hua and Feng Jiu's storyline in the drama is completely different from their novel (I didn't read the book), I'm lowkey hoping that they will just make a sequel to continue from their invented storyline in the drama, instead of an adaptation (for various reasons). I kinda like the scriptwriter's take on them in the drama, but I just detest how it was handled - it's so incomplete?? So yeah a sequel would be great. (But very, very unlikely in practicality.)

Also: Pillow Book's copyright is in the hands of another production company, which is why they couldn't follow it in the drama (and why it's very unlikely for the same actors to reprise their roles even if the adaptation were still to happen at all.)

Agreed. The second half was a trainwreck. It's really the leads and their chemistry which made it all worth it! The first half was really pretty cute still.

The cast apart from Dilraba is not confirmed as of now yet. And there are later rumours of the male leads being a totally different group of people.

Speaking as someone who have completed the drama, I /just/ doubt that there will be subs in the near future... 1) I can imagine how hard it would be to sub this drama because it has so much terminology/jargons, and also countless poetic expressions and nuances. 2) And the drama also seems relatively not so mainstream, I have a feeling...?

I really do hope it does have subs eventually so more people can watch it, and get to know how G R E A T and beautifully written this drama is. It has to be done justice.

Will definitely keep a look out too if there are subs, and make sure more people get to watch it. (I only hope I have the acutely high level of understanding and command of my languages to help have it subbed. ;__;)

He isn't. I think someone must have confused this with another similar romcom cdrama focused on swimmers as well, which stars Mike.
