Truth to be told, even if TLI is a standalone drama, if one haven't watched ALP or isn't fully aware of the back story (which is super necessary to understand TLI but writers decided to let people be unware and hate the ML to the core lol.) then it is a given that you will just feel sorry for A-Yin and blame everytjing on GJ/YQ.
But for those who know ALP, who know YQ's backstory, they will not hate YQ for what he did or what he was. He was what he was due to various reasons which are evident in ALP.
Not only ML' back story, but also many side characters' stories are not told here in TLI. For example, why is heavenly empress absent from her post? What's going on between Fox Queen and Demon King's brother? WHO EXACTLY IS A FIRE PHOENIX and WHAT IS HER EXACT ROLE? (they seriously have a single line where it is mentioned that fire phoenix are the divine beasts of God of Choas. like seriously?? that big of a connection of FengYin and YuanQi and they decided to keep it aside?) Who is a True God of Chaos? What's special with him? What is Chaos power and who all have it? How powerful is chaps power? How is YuanQi's chaos powers sealed? (TianQi sealed it off before sending him to Daze shen-another true god's seal on YQ's powers) And QingLi's story???? Why is she a villain? what's exactly her relationship with fox queen and demon lord?
As far as I remember these questions were never answered correctly in TLI. To know these one must watch ALP.
So, all in all, for me, TLI can never be a standalone drama.
And I completely agree with you on that unsatisfying ending. For me it looked like her dream. A dream where she dreams of YQ coming back to her. But since Sword spirit was back and appeared in the wedding, i concluded it wasn't her dream.
an edit after 6 months(lol): Even though in ALP, there were moments where being true god was cool and powerful. But that whole story has the same exact question to begin with "when common living beings encounter difficulties, they pray to gods above, when gods face difficulties they pray to true gods. But what about True gods? The supreme beings of the world! Whom do they ask when faced with difficulties?". Both of these stories tell the similar tale of fate of a true god. A True God- who is never of his own, who has to live and die for all the living beings in the world. Neither ShangGu-BaiJue had any different choice nor did YuanQi. The bigger the power, heavier the resposibility. Yuanqi was still able to be somewhat selfish and save daze mountain and fengyin as there are now True Gods in the God realm taking care of the world. It wasn't like *if he is gone who will look after the world* for him. He could worry less about other things in his life. That is the only relief he seemed to have which his parents never had. They had to arrange things to maintain the order of the world even after their death. How burdensome that you can't even die worryfree!
People tend to hate BaiJue for his rude behaviour towards SG in later part, but people don't seem to notice that…
Sometimes I feel pity for BJ, man had been doing just fine in his life until he met SG. And after that evrything, i said everything went downhill for him. He was the mighty fire god, and most powerful true god. Starting with her vein unblocking, then thunder tribulation, then a weapon, then 1000 year of power exhaution to watch her in nether realm. As SG became powerful, BJ became weak. Still man was never tired of giving. So poor fated couple they were!
I know Hou Chi and Qing Mu are just other identity of Shang Gu and Bai Jue but daamn my heart pine for them 😭😭.…
People tend to hate BaiJue for his rude behaviour towards SG in later part, but people don't seem to notice that she had no memories of her HC avatar. Hence, she is suffering much less compared to him. He has every memory intact, and also is aware that he has to leave her and be gone. Still, with a heavy heart he turns a blind eye to her. That's heart wrenching. When SG asks him to never see her again or enter the God realm, the heavy breath he takes after she leaves the hall as if he forgot to respirate for few minutes. I have watched this drama so many times that details like this are still vivid in my mind.

That 100 years reference is mentioned in another scene also. After BaiJue awakens and when GuJun and BaiJue have a conversation about their 60,000 years grand plan, BaiJue gets angry for a moment asking GuJun what he was doing that his newly wed daughter was split from her husband for 100 years. That was the ultimate heart breaking moment for me when i knew he was also suffering the same as her.
actually soooo glad MM is not related to that boring JUNK of a drama with all the yawny boring 2 dimensional characters…
I guess *that* junk of a story did not get 8+ ratings for nothing. If you don't like it then nobody can make you like it. But your comment really makes many out there furious
Hope remaining 38 eps will also have me feeling the same amout of excitement❤️
