I feel some people are going too far with their comments about this show. It is not perfect but seeing such strong negative reactions towards it is baffling to me. I've been enjoying this drama so much since episode one (maybe because I am fan of the Japanese version) and despite already knowing what was going to happen in the story, I couldn't help laugh, smile, and even get sad while watching it.
When this remake was first announced, I was really worried and had low expectations because I wasn't sure if it was going to be able pull off the same over-the-top comedy that the original had and that I so much loved. Because of that, I was genuinely impressed to see how well the story was adapted to make it more culturally relatable to those from Hong Kong and I was glad too see it had its own charm while still keeping the essence of the Japanese version.
I understand if some viewers are disappointed that this version is following the original plot almost exactly (and hence, is keeping some of the flaws of the original story and characters). Tbh, I was expecting it to have more new content than just expanding some plotlines, but despite that, I can't blame those involved in this production for wanting to play it safe. After all, the Japanese version got a decent amount of popularity and changing the story too much could have pissed off the fans. And besides that, as far as I know, this is Hong Kong's first BL drama, which is a huge achievement in of itself, so its imperfections are understandable. Hopefully, with time, Hong Kong will start releasing its own original BL dramas and realize what kind of things the viewers like and dislike.
Sorry for rambling, but I had been wanting to express my opinions on this remake for a while.
I haven't watched the original, so my question is for all those who have. How different is the remake to the original? Was…
So far, it is basically the same plot. There have been some changes but nothing that could drastically change the story. As for the male lead and his friend falling in love, it is part of the original series, though nothing actually happens between them. Only the friend realizes that she likes him but knows that they can't be together.
