One funny thing about this drama is that almost every female character is a schemer, including the FL. Some are scheming for the right reasons, and others for the wrong reasons, but they are all scheming nonetheless. Lol

Title Love Story in the 1970s Spoiler
Caught up with episode 7, and I have some thoughts about the sister of the ML. I just don’t like her character right now. I understand that she was put in a complicated situation because of her family and had to make selfish decisions to continue her studies at the university, but I just find it hard to warm up to her.

She definitely has her difficulties considering the times, so I don’t think she is a bad person, but I don’t see her as a good person either. It doesn’t help that she has such a selfless brother like the ML who risked his life to save strangers and even gave up his university allocation for another person.

Even the brother of the FL happily sacrificed a stable job to go work in a hardcore place just so his sister won’t have to suffer. So, it makes her character a bit complicated seeing that she was even willing to put her brother in a mad house because she was trying to distance herself from her family. I’m pretty sure the ML would never do that if he was in her shoes, so I can’t reconcile with her decision.

Also, I don’t understand her deal with the doctor. It made sense that she avoided him initially because she has to keep a low profile to avoid being linked with her family. But I don’t understand why she immediately decided to approach the doctor when she found out that he comes from an influential family background. She knows the doctor is interested in her. Does she think his dad, who is a senior military officer, won’t do a background check on her if things got serious between them? Frankly curious to see how things play out for her.

The drama is an underrated gem. I don’t really watch modern cdrams, except L&P, so I decided to start this one for Chen Feiyu but everyone is genuinely killing their roles, and I can’t drop it now!

Ugh the Crown Prince is proving to be just as irritating as his father, if not worse. His incompetent ass needs to be humbled too, if there is ever a second season.

Damn the way she killed the villain was so satisfying!

Bai Lu’s acting is amazing. You can see her automatically become lighter after killing the villain and sounding off the Emperor, he almost convulsed with anger..lol. Li Peiyi and Huiajin playing in the snow is so cute!! I love them sm!

The way they made up without any drawn out drama is so funny. So fitting for their relationship dynamics.

Episode 31: It’s kind of ironic Li Peiyi told the little boy that “Killing is not the only way to seek vengeance”. It must have been shocking to her to see the little boy so consumed by thoughts of revenge. His situation really paralleled what happened to Li Peiyi. It’s so sad. Sometimes, we think our way is the only way, seeing others in our exact situation really helps us gain clarity on what to do, or not to do.

i had to laugh in ep 29 when huaijin said peiyi isn't the type of person to kill someone and still sleep at night,…
The Right chancellor murdered the Emperor’s brother’s whole family and basically got off with a slap on the wrist. If Consort Shu, the villain’s own sister was confused with the decision, how much more the ML. The truth is that If Peiyi had murdered the Right Chancellor, the Emperor would have killed her too, using the stability of his court as an excuse.
I wonder if the Emperor is not the actual villain. Almost every case in the palace that went wrong, especially regarding women, could be traced back to him.

I just watched the red wedding and I have so many thoughts. First, people blaming the ML for stopping her revenge are being obtuse. I don’t even blame the girl for going crazy and wanting to murder that evil Right chancellor, but poisoning the uninvolved nobles who came for her wedding is insane. If she had succeeded in killing the right chancellor, the narrative that her father went mad and murdered his family would never be resolved. Hell, people would have even said he transferred the mad gene to her which is why she poisoned everyone at her wedding. Even in real life, embellished lies are always more interesting than the truth and that’s what people will forever know her family for. Not to mention, she would definitely die afterwards, especially with censorship rules.

A classic example would be the drama “Blossom”. Before reincarnation, the ML killed his father to exact a just revenge for his mother and uncle. Yet, he was vilified for it by the whole country, and he ended up dead. After reincarnation, the Fl did everything she could to stop him from making the same mistake, to the point of even grabbing the sword with her bare hands to prevent him from stabbing his father. So I don’t get why some people are mad at the ML. He couldn’t even complain his engagement to her was used as a ruse to draw out the villain yet he is blamed for preventing her from eventually getting herself killed, and having her name tainted forever. Idk about y’all but after what the Fl has gone through, I want her to absolve her father of blame AND live happily ever after.

Most dramas that have this revenge plotline and eventually end happily, like legend of zang hai for instance, the main leads use complicated plots to ruin their enemies, and they still have a life after. The only exception I can think of is love like the galaxy, but the ML left NO witnesses. Besides, the revenge almost ruined his relationship and the couple suffered a lot and separated for a while before they got back together.

Peiyi has suffered a lot and her anger is completely justified, but I hope she and Huaijin stop with the stupid noble idiocy and quit keeping secrets to “protect” the other, and come up concrete plans to eliminate the bad guy. If they can even add that useless emperor for good measure, they would be doing unfortunate women and the citizens a favour.

Yea, they could have let that first girl live instead of swapping her for another samey character. I understand…
The first female doctor probably couldn’t live with all the guilt. Imagine her only friend in the world allowing her to take his place in the palace medical office, killing people for her to succeed, killing her master to keep her secret, and even killing himself so she could study his body to understand the cause of an epidemic. The trauma was probably too much for the poor girl.

I'm more concerned with ML saying he's gonna go back to the Astronomers Bureau when asking for marriage. They…
I think he said that to calm his father down. When he marries Peiyi, he will be a target as much as her to the villain. His father allowed him to become an astronomer in the first place to save his life and shield him from court intrigues. I’m actually surprised the villain hasn’t tried to kill him yet, i’m worried for his parents especially.

If they are able to take down the main villain, the ML can find a way to continue with his career while seeing his wife more frequently. After all, he is now royal, through his marriage with Peiyi.

Huaijin’s mother is so cute and sweet. Peiyi will be so loved and pampered after she marries him. His family is so good, no wonder he grew up so well.

I’m legit so obsessed with this couple’s dynamics. The ML is so soft yet so reassuring and steadfast. He is sweet, patient and gentle with her, yet so firm when necessary. Such a green flag yet not a doormat. The female lead is also fierce and direct, yet somewhat adorable with him too. I adore their dynamic a lot. Real slow burn but they have really cute and touching moments together.

Need to rant a bit about the healer story.
That’s the most realistic ending imo, although it was very sad. Her friend sacrificed his position at the Imperial Medical Office for her. Killed people to clear the way for her success. She knew but couldn’t expose him cos of the friendship. I mean he even killed her beloved master so that she could hide her secret.

Then, he finally killed himself in front of her so that she could study his corpse and find a cure for the epidemic. That’s fucking traumatic. I don’t know how many people that could live on with that amount of guilt weighing on them. After she found the cure for the epidemic, she probably just gave up and didn’t want to live anymore.

well damn I guess im the only one who quite likes this..lol
Some of us are enjoying it. I knew the drama won’t be super popular internationally because the main focus is not romance. Glad it’s doing better in China.

This White Asura cult case is so creepy. It’s even more unsettling that it happens a lot irl. These greedy charlatans easily manipulate weak minded people to their deaths just for money. Reminds me of that “prophet” who told thousands of poor people that the world would end in December 2025, and persuaded them to sell all their belongings, then bought a Benz with the money. Smh.
