The cinematography was so darn beautiful in GMP but the politics took over the romance sadly!
Yes, it had itās own style of storytelling and the costumes were GORGEOUS but I much prefer Ashile Sunās character to Li Chengyin because he prioritizes his woman more than ambition. He even risks his life many times to support Changge and there is freedom in how they love, whereas in GMP - Qu Xiao Feng must have felt so much shame and guilt for loving LC despite the many atrocities that he has done(to her family no less). There was no way that she can remain on his side and he would have never let her go had she lived, so she used the best way to hurt him/to teach him a lesson while bringing about peace in her mind. I did not like that they sensationalized suicide but the director was definitely skilled at making this sacrifice look somewhat poetic instead of for what it really was

Yes, thatās what I love about TLB. No filler episodes and it was interesting from start to finish. Smart FL and super ALPHA ML! :D They had the same director from Ashes of Love
With AoL I started to get into it by EP 6! :D When I watched that and The Untamed on Netflix before - I had no idea I was going to enjoy it soo much! I also liked Princess Agents, Love and Redemption and TMOPB. Have not seen ETLOD and Yanxi Palace yet. Thanks for the recommendations! š
Yes, (Dilraba & Zhao Lusi) gives off vastly different FL vibes onscreen but Zhao Lusi is probably going to have a kissing scene with Leo Wu unless if his team drafts another āNo kiss contractā in their drama. ;P I suddenly remember that scene in TLB where Changge wanted Ashile Sun to āQuick! Jump down from the balcony!ā so he can win that competition to marry Princess Yongan which he rightly refuses to do so as he is just watching he said. ha ha! Canāt remember any chemistry between those two but who knows! :D

Itās really hard to find well-written series like this. The last ML I liked was Phoenix God/Xufeng from Ashes of Love so this Director is awesome in bringing out the alpha from the actor / character.

I watched this series before on my cellphone via Viki app. Thereās no ADs if you get the standard pass membership. Itās soo worth it esp if youāre busy but have short breaks in a day so you can coninuously watch on your phone during transit. I use it more than Netflix
Itās hard to answer when exactly since there was no confession episode/moment where they both admitted their feelings for one another. He never really told FL that he loves her (he told Mu Jin lol) although some affectionate lines he spoke hinted towards this and his actions made it VERY OBVIOUS. FL seems aware and is confident of his love as well.
Itās a slow burn type of romance but that wasnāt really the focus of the story. The romantic scenes were very few. It was more on lingering gazes, forehead kisses, heartfelt hugs, loving promises, their genuine concern for one another, the flirty/teasing interactions and these were scattered all throughout the episodes so thereās no one specific super romantic moment that we could just skip to of them finally being together :D
If I have to summarize:
EP 26 - he admits to his friend (Mu Jin) that he has fallen for her but I think he liked her wayyy earlier. He leaves his tribe and searches for her.
EP 31 - He finally finds her and I guess they are now together but they donāt really kiss until EP 40 (FYI, they blurred out this scene and added some kissing parrots š¦ lol ) They had the same Director from Ashes of Love (if youāve seen it - the romantic scenes for that xianxia was very EXTRA and fantastic!) but he can only do so much here with a no kiss contract for The Long Ballad. Idk why they werenāt interested in doing one here but Dilraba is one of the few c-drama actresses that can really pull off a kissing scene. She makes any male actor she partners up with look good since she can kiss back just as passionately and doesnāt just stand there frozen in place! LOL
Luckily, this story was compelling enough and the actors had great chemistry even without a real kiss. I personally felt the romance every time they saved each others lives :D
EP 43 - he asks when he can have a wedding with her but they donāt really get married in the end since Changge doesnāt seem to find a ceremony necessary. Maybe because characterwise her parents were dead or maybe a wedding scene ending is costly for production to do and there would be no point having one since there wonāt be any kisses from the main couple in that wedding
EP 46 - Changge solely visits the tomb of her mom and refers to Ashile Sun as her husband from now on in her third toast
