i really liked your deeper understanding of the characters, sometimes its hard to stop your feelings for someone…
yes, that's so true! humans are rational beings but we are oftentimes irrational, especially when it comes to feelings so strong such as love

Yeah, the YouTube version is cut (sometimes up to 30 minutes it looks like)β€”the uncut version is only on iQIYI…
I found it, thank u so much!

I'm glad my opinion was able to help someone pick it up to watch! That's exactly it, people ask for diversity…
Exactly, what people call Joe's "naivety" isn't entirely that, he's well aware of what hes's getting into, at least in the beginning before he becomes way too attached to Ming, and then knows it again in his new life. He knows and yet he still goes to Ming, due to how strong his feelings are, which he himself is aware aren't good for him. He tries and tries and yet is unable to step away and detach himself from Ming. Sol too, he doesn't have it as bad as Joe nor does Joe treat him like Ming does to him, but he's young and in love with Joe so he tries to pursue it at any given opportunity, even after being rejected and knowing that his feelings wouldn't be reciprocated. Though I feel like Sol isn't only unable to give up on Joe, he's unwilling to. Joe wants to stay away from Ming but is emotionally and physically unable to, while Sol doesn't step away and keeps trying, despite knowing he'll only hurt himself, which is also pretty sad. All of them have different ways of loving and it's this complexity that makes a show compelling to watch.

Yeeeeees, I couldn't have said it better myself! Flawed characters make our brains work to figure out what shaped them to be the way they are. Ming is in a situation that, to most characters like him, both in fiction and reality, ends up in reflecting in their behaviours. The spoiled rich kid whose upbringing was lonely and who was pushed to live up to either very high expectations or no expectations at all, who all they wanted was some love from their family, who is oftentimes cold and detached. Ming's mother makes some effort to understand Ming, but sides with her husband in almost all decisions and viewpoints, shutting Ming out sometimes. His sister is focused in her own life and on the family she's building, though she does love her brother, he's not first in her mind. His father is unable to properly show him love. I'd say Ming does take after him a bit too. He falls for Tong but never was the focus of his attention. So when Joe does come along, he doesn't know how to deal with it, he craves the attention but is careless with it. This story is pretty tragic from Ming's point of view and it's sad that so many comments I've seen never once try to empathize with him. He was terrible to Joe but he's even more awful to himself, in the way he sabotages himself with his attitudes and actions - he doesn't know how to act and does the most insane thing due to the turmoil of emotions and thoughts in his head - in the way he keeps blaming himself for Joe's death all those years, thinking himself undeserving of happiness; the way he clings to the new Joe just because of a spec of resemblance, even if deep down it drives him insane - all of it is so important for the character buildup and yet people overlook it in order to bash him. This type of character isn't spelled out for us, it's for us to figure out, and this is why this type of representation is so needed.

I just want to say thank you for your take on this. I swear the negative comments on this had me put this on hold…
I'm glad my opinion was able to help someone pick it up to watch! That's exactly it, people ask for diversity and then refuse to appreciate what we get, instead bashing it. These people act like they're being forced to watch these shows, when they can just not watch when they're exactly as advertised. Plus, adding to what I said in my review, flawed characters are so intriguing to watch, some of my fav series have such flawed main characters and it originates such interesting plots, it's a pity that many people jump to hate on shows like these when they literally knew from the start what they were getting into and it's not nearly as bad as they make it out to be.

watch this with friends - it'll be a blast.

watched this with two of my roommates after it aired, we tried to watch an episode every day. At the beginning it was questionable but as we started making fun of the random things, we started enjoying it greatly. we begun having inside jokes about it, which we still make today and it became a remarkable moment. it was so much fun!!!!
when something goes wrong we just say it's Non's ghost "Shia Non!".We even have a screenshot of Barcode's scary face as our gc icon πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
