The plot reminds me of No Longer Heroine manga or something like Extraordinary You where the side character tries to be the main lead. They are both fun and hilarious shows to watch.
Some of this is cultural differences. Western audiences need to be more understanding of Eastern cultures.
Yep, Korean artists have been doing it forever. Kpop artists are even famous for doing aegyo. But being angry that a FL lead of a show from a different culture doesn't act the way they want her to baffles me.
This show isn't only beloved because it is great but because the couple has a great chemistry on-screen and off-screen too, acting like bf/gf. You also might see the female lead in a different light. . They act as a couple off-screen and bicker constantly.
Here are some videos if you need motivation to continue watching/supporting this drama or if you need healing after watching it.
What? Is it awfully high pitched and childish sounding? That's the case of most female characters voices in Cdramas…
Many actors in that show take over 2-3 different roles. They change characters and voices too so they have to be distinct in order to distinguish them. You'll see why if you continue the story.
The FL will also make you angry a lot of times but unlike other dramas where they make the FL useless, Orchid actually reedems herself and will grow on you.
This show made me realize that I will be hated in real life just for having been born with a cute voice because insecure women cannot stand or respect people being different.
A lot of comments I've seen just proved how superficial a lot of you are.
sis persons can like whomever they wish to and dislike whomever they wish to, the question is why are you bothered????…
Yes people can dislike whoever they want to but that just makes you a horrible person for disliking people that you never met for traits that they were created with and cannot change. Esther Yu naturally sounds like that when she gets excited and you cannot assume her acting if you haven't seen the whole show because her voice does change in it.
We shouldn't respect an opinion if that opinion insults somebody. You could've said "it isn't my style", "I am not a fan of cute voices in female leads, or them made childish or clueless" but you called the actress and her voice annoying. Like she's literally just existing.
If you cannot share an opinion or critic in a respectful way, don't expect people to do the same thing to you. But I swear, people like you would cry in real life if somebody criticizes you the way you throw hurtful words around.
Female lead is a baby fairy, shielded from the world for a reason. Fairies in mythology are usually portrayed as small, cheerful and playful creatures which is what she is portraying. The story follows her growth, from her childish and innocent self to a mature figure where at the end, her voice changes as well. Her voice going from high pitched to serious at the end of the show has a purpose to show that growth.
Don't let your stereotypical character's view of childish characters stop you from watching this drama. The FL is one of the strongest characters I have ever seen in a drama. It is a show about growth.
Unfortunately yes hahaha. Many viewers got annoyed with her voice but eventually you'll get used to it!

I usually watch kdramas. But I really wanted to watch it because of the high rating and beautiful scenography.…

It's really cool but I cannot watch it well because of the female lead. I know in general, in other dramas they…
I am not trying to be mean but it is sad how you immediately connect "cheerful" voices with a stereotypical character. Some actresses naturally have such voices, just saying.
So before you have a whole opinion on a show you didn't watch, let me explain you why her "baby voice" is a baby voice. She is a little fairy, kept away from everything and protected. If you know anything about mythology, fairies are supposed to be cheerful and playful creatures. In this case, she's a playful and cute fairy. As the story progresses, the female lead also grows and her voice with her growth too. She is not an innocent baby fairy anymore but matures into a beautiful figure as the show goes by.
There is a difference between saying you have a different taste and not understanding that there's a purpose of her voice being like that. Plus, despite sounding the way she sounds, she actually portrays one of the strongest female leads ever in xanxia with her compassion for everyone which you would probably enjoyed if voices did not matter to you so much that you connect it stereotypically with whiny, childish characters.

Also, the romance develops much later as she mentally develops too.
