its not a typical bl its so much more ppl been talking about the ending but we have to understand that not everything ends well or needs to end well ko young let gyu ho go because their relationship was fading away day by day it was becoming more dull maybe because of their profession personality or many other factors or even maybe because of ko young’s past relationships you can hear him say that he has nothing new to offer to gyu ho because he had spent it all on his past relationships this scene reminded me of call me by your name the dad in that movie says something similar like as you age and reach 30’s everytime we start with someone new we have less to offer to that person because we would have exhausted so much of ourselves in the following years it becomes too exhausting even then ko young tries to add colours and plans for trip and even does something so out of order as to take pills because he wanted to be that close to gyu ho and wanted to give him everything but in the end he still lets him go it might appear he looks careless at handling breakup but no he lets him go because you can see in that one scene where gyu ho was sleeping very soundlessly as if he was still not feeling like he belongs there with him even though it appears to be absolute bullshit they couldve talked or handled it in other ways but the person confronting with will deny it anyways coz they dont feel it its in thier subconsciousness it was a very huge opportunity for him coming from a place surrounded by water not having the privilege of settling in main land it might appear as something ordinary but in metaphorical way its so much more not having a place not having a sense of belongingness is not something the relationship can fulfill he needs to work hard for it to earn it or inherit it here when the opportunity arrives for him to finally be able to get it he wanted to but in this process he also expected his partner to come with him but not everything can be so easy because of ko young’s disease it wont be possible to get a visa so even if they continued long distance relationship it may not present certainity that their already fading relationship would sustain all odds at that very moment so they had to part ways to for each other’s good
you can see at the very end how ko young writes gyu ho’s name and says thats the only thing he ever wanted at that time we can see how much he loves gyu ho
I would suggest to watch this masterpiece as to keep aside typical bl concept in the side and give this story a genuine chance and see it as an art in itself and watch it
