The characters are too different. Minglan tries to be scheming...... but she takes forever in the world to do…
Sweetie, am no fan of Zhao li ying or her husuband. I don’t even remember his name :) Story of Minglan was good. There is no unique drama (even though there tons) because whole story is about her life as a whole - from her childhood to her first love, until she got married and had a kid. Also, Story of minglan is a "Slice of life" drama, it's not for everyone and not everyone will like a drama but please don't INVALIDATE the opinions of people who like the drama - you are seeing alot of good comments probably because there are more good than bad in the drama and stop acting like we are blind to her flaw or bla bla bla you wrote there.

I never thought they were similar neither do I want them to be similar. However, based on the trailer and earlier episodes (e.g when she sent those 2 random women away), I had assumed she will be a badass too and not do stupid things. She has gone through alot to grow up already and realize what she needs to protect. No two women are the same and women can be strong in different ways. I never wanted her to be like Minglan and neither would it have made sense considering the background she has. I just don't want her to be unreasonable everytime and show unnecessary kindness at the expense of herself especially to people who don't deserve it and all that while neglecting the person who really deserve the kindness smh.

I can understand that too but I was expecting Awu to have some kind of badass terrific character. Also, I watched Yanxi and I loved her character but I can say she is very different from Minglan. Yingluo is fiesty while Minglan is a silent killer type of girl lol. She could scheme and manipulate people without lifting her hand lol. And, people always underestimate her because she appears to be docile - Minglan character taught me that you don't need to be loud to be considered 'strong.' You really need to watch it!

Little bit of rant here sorry. At first I thought A'wu's character was gonna be like Ming Lans. But boy was i wrong…
Right!!!? What made Minglan unique was that she wasn't kind nor evil. She was in between and gives people exactly what she receive from them. Minglan ride hard for important people in her life and people who are kind to her and not unnecessary kind to evil people. Awu on the other hand is the mother theresa kind of 'kind' and just unbelievably stupid sometimes .

Why do you infer that all BL degrades gay people? Just because the genre has a lot of harmful tropes, the tropes…
Life~ love on the line, Just friends, Like in the movies, gameboys, Gooddbye mother, Cherry Magic, His, etc. These are all BLs with good and realistic portrayal of LGBTQ relationship. You just chose to categorize bl as some annoying genre that degrades people. There are good bl out there but you won't see it if you chose not to. I don't see a reason why the relationship in this drama can't be catgorized as 'bl' when it simply means 'boys love' lol.

Well... I love love love it! I recognized nearly all the actors - both main and supporting characters. This drama is star studded and so interesting and different from the usual dynamic. It's giving me warm fuzzy feelings. I am so here for this. Can't wait for episode 3.

Not every Korean who lives in Korea is going to be adhering to Korean culture. Most young Koreans at that age…
Dude.. how can you conclude LSITC is not giving a realistic portrayal of young people based on 1st episode which is 30 mins. And why do you think everyone wants to sit through BTIMFL 2.0? What am saying is that a story portraying young people's life and struggles from another perspectives different from previous dramas ain't bad. The reason you are dissatisfied is because you didn't get to confirm your bias. Just like you said, you thought it will be similar to BTIMFL. So, just because it isn't doesn't mean it's not that good or not "realistic " enough.

It's fine though, not even hard - if it's for you, watch! If it's not for you.. don't. Simple!

I talked about 'Korean movie' because they are closer to koreans reality than korean dramas in general. Also, you said you are not talking about dramas in general but just about BTIMFL. Can I ask why? Why did you compare this drama specifically to that? Did you expect this drama to be similar to that? . And what is kdrama typical in LSITC? The fact that he is rich? I love BTIMFL but the only unique thing in the drama is the Male lead not being rich. Which aspect of ml and fl ending up living in the same house have we not seen before? or which aspect of their struggles is unique? I think it's cool that we are seeing a different aspect in this drama. Why do you think it's just that drama that depicted the reality of young people struggling.? People don't all struggle in one particular way. Just because this is different does not mean it doesn't realistically depict struggling young people in korea.

According to who is YOLO not a normal lifestyle? Just because you don't do it doesn't mean others don't. I am far from rich and YOLO is a normal lifestyle to me. Its a mindest- there is nothing you can't achieve by working and saving. Of course, what they portray in one drama won't be true for every one and let's not act like young people's experiences are universal.

Lastly, I mentioned their sex life just as an example of one of the tropes in dramas - how it is in reality vs how it's portrayed in dramas.

Well.. this is such a new approach. Kdramas are becoming more and more multifaceted. The production is so unique with A list actors. This could either be a hit or miss but as for me, It's a HIT - I already love it.! Am a sucker for realism and anything slice of life so I definetely love this vibe. Y'll should give it a try. It's a new vibe for sure but don't be so quick to dismiss it just because it's not the usual style we are used to. Who knows? You might come to love it. Can't wait for more episodes.

You need to watch some Korean movies not just dramas lol. What they portray in most dramas is only 10% similar to real life koreans lmao. The virgin girl, no sexual desire female lead, the overbearing mother in law trope, pooring water on someone's face, truck of death, dead fish kiss, perfect rich/rude male lead, I could go on and on.... You think all those tropes describes everyday koreans? Well... of course, there will be people going through that but we can't generalize. You mentioned BTIMFL which is one my favourites, but not all dramas storyline will talk about workplace sexism, mother in law issue, marriage pressure etc. This drama took a new approach and tried something new. It could be appreciated or not, but don't act like what we see in Korean dramas is the reality lol.

"Actually going to korea burst my bubble. I use to perceive koreans through drama. I would say their social life is on the same level as Americans and most people casually date and have sex for fun contrary to what dramas portray lol. I spent 6 weeks there."

Gameboys is my 2nd favourite this year after "Life~love on the line. And, I absolutely love like in the movies and you are right, there is nothing to feel sad about. Why would anyone feel sad just because others don't like what they like lol.

Oh really? Am not sure if it's popular or not. I just saw a recommedation on MD and I gave it a try. Untamed was really popular and I couldn't get past a couple episodes but my bestie liked it alot so, am definetely not feeling sad that someone else has a different opinion lol. I love 'like in the movies' coming of age story so much that's why I decided to recommed it here. Who knows? someone might discover it through me and fall in love with it :)
