makjang level is 8/10 from the very first episodes -__-
lol, I kinda fear what can possibly happen next, silly first vs second lead rivalry aside. Why even bother to introduce deadly viruses, a loss of sight, imprisonment of the innocent and homelessness and abandon it all by the end of ep 3? Dear lord, what can not happen in next 47 eps?
I still watch it for Jamie tho, it's nice to see more of her.
Is this worth watching? I really love historical dramas and I really like YJG acting.. but my problem is that…
It's hard to say for now. I've naively expected something on 6 Flying Dragons level, and it's not. It has some beautiful shots, but the pacing is off. For me, its merrit is the consistent use of the main theme (gambling), it's not just for the decoration but impacts the plot in a meaningful way and recurs over and over.
JGS was giving me a second-hand embarassment every time he opened his mouth in first 3-4 eps, but he's actually improving as an actor (and I'm not a huge fan of him neither). I mostly ignore him tho.
Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights from Romeo and Juliet ballet (you mean when they're sitting on the couch, right?).
/ Lol, I just saw the date. Nevermind.
For those who've seen anime version: am I missing something or is the Park Bo Gum's character added here (for the 2nd lead feels' sake)? I'm stuck at ep 12 of anime and there's no cellist nor much need for him in a plot. I'm confused.
I hope this gets better. I think it will but the first episode was just absurd and the time jumping was not well…
Agree. It's beautifully made, almost a movie level, but the time shifts give me headache. I thought it's just me being distracted or something. I'm like: wait a minute, who exactly are they and why are they trying to kill each other?
I hope the past arc is not going to take too long.
How's everyone liking the ending? I both feared for the strife of princes and wished for it, but they just brushed over it with one scene. A half of the scene maybe.
I expected nothing more but some regular high school nonsense with pretty faces, but I binge-watched it in one night smiling like an idiot most of the time and making a triumphant round around my bed after the plot twist.Characters are super lovable and human (think Producers). I love side characters (shark loan and Yang-teacher are my favourites! or Lee Yoon Ji, can't choose).
Prepare to embrace lots of playback and weird styling choices.
Also: 2nd lead gets the girl! Or first lead loses his initial position. Whatever.
Man, Soo Hyun drives me crazy. Can't he just not be a jerk for one moment? Also, his self-pitying is endless.…
Oh, don't let High Society form your opinion on his acting. His character here is just a lousy variation of HS's golddigger mixed with wicked psychologist from Hyde, Jekyll, me. He can act, but his last dramas aren't that good. I actually liked him better as a background-scene-stealer in Gu Family Book.
I second I Need Romance 3 suggestion. Also, White Christmas is definitely worth watching.
I watched years ago The Japanese " Liar games" and I must say it .I loved it. Should I stay with it…
Well, it's different than original. Initially, I've dropped it after 3 or 4 eps, because korean version is too watered-down (from 15 mins to 1hr without much more substance) and sentimental at first, but recently I've picked it up and it's quite enjoyable. They added some characters and teary childhood background stories and completely changed my favourite character. Some changes add to the drama (Shin Sung Rok and Jamie!), but for me this claustrophobic atmosphere and dynamics of the original story are lost.
Some games are the same, one is new and one looks similar, but the meaning is different. Generally, there's less focus on "winning strategy" and even more on naivety and pureness of female lead. The male lead is stiff compared to orignal.
EP 15:
"Enough with this silly little rebellion of yours, GHR, you've proved your point. You see, he'd got a puppy and that magically erases all the mysogyny we've seen so far. Now you're responsible for him for the rest of your life so no matter what crap he decides to come with, you can't leave him. Like never."
So back with this fake smile of hers she goes.
I'm only at episode 2... and I don't know if I can watch more. :( So pretty please, someone give me a spoiler:…
at the end of ep 13 he realizes that not only there's a possibility that a woman can be genuinely in love but also it suddenly hits him what jerk he was all this time. And now we're supposed to feel sorry for him I guess.
So no, it only gets worse and worse. From time to time there's a spark, a human impulse and then he goes back again into lying bastard mode (and she fells for it and forgives him instantly).
I hope his next drama will be better.
If you want a closure, go for drama, the webtoon is still going.
For me, the adaptation is super messy. There's something really off with either screenwritter, montage team or both, they have troubles to put the story in a coherent manner, they jump from theme to theme, expose something too soon or too late etc. Eps 13-14 were hijacked by the 2nd lead having literally all the screentime. Teasers seems to be more meaningful and put together than the episodes themselves, and they're full of spoilers. Or they show things that aren't in a next episode at all.
Webtoon is kinda draggy, but more in-depht and logical.
For those considering starting this drama: if you want a smart, cunning heroine, skip it. If you want even a remotely likable male lead, skip it (or just mute the sound and enjoy Sung Joon facial expressions).
For past-me: it's not going to get any better. Do yourself a favour and drop it. The plot is a repetitive, messy trainwreck heading nowhere. The male lead repells me (and I had my fair share of manipulative, jerky leads, thankyouverymuch) and Go Hye Rim is delusional and have absolutely no self respect. It's just painful to watch.
Side stories - I just couldn't care less.
