Do you know that ASD is actually the spectrum and everyone has it in the different way? It's obviously representation…
With all due respect, you literally said Ashida Mana doesn't sound autistic. You say that based on the original and your own experiences, but all of that plays into the stereotype that people with autism have to speak or sound in a certain way. The fact that people think that Ashida Mana has to sound "in a certain way" or sound like how PEB played the character for it to be a convincing performance of somebody that has autism is part of the problem, because that's just not true.
But anyway, we can keep going back and forth here like that, but let's just end this here.
Do you know that ASD is actually the spectrum and everyone has it in the different way? It's obviously representation…
I understand what you're saying, but this is exactly why it's a good thing that Ashida Mana's performance isn't exactly like Park Eun-bin's, and why we need more different portrayals when it comes to autism. People have an idea in their head as to how people with autism should act, and if one doesn't act according to that idea, one deems it not convincing enough. This whole thing is based on stereotypes. This is why comparisons like this do more harm than good, and inadvertently play into these stereotypes. We don't need to compare two characters with autism, we need understanding that everyone with autism is different, because we'll never get rid of these stereotypes otherwise.
Do you know that ASD is actually the spectrum and everyone has it in the different way? It's obviously representation…
You quite literally said "her dialogue voice delivery sounds normal and not autistic". You can't then turn around and say this has nothing to do with how people with autism should sound when you quite literally made it about that.
But there's something wrong with the argument you're trying to make. You're comparing Park Eun-bin and Ashida Mana's acting, down to their vocal delivery, as if Ashida Mana should somehow portray this character in the exact same way as Park Eun-bin did. But have you ever thought about how perhaps Ashida Mana isn't actually trying to portray the character in the exact same way? Minami is based on Woo Young-woo, but she is not Woo Young-woo.
However, you cannot just ignore the autism part here, since both actresses are playing somebody that has autism. Ashida Mana's job is to successfully portray somebody that has autism. Her job isn't to act the exact same way as Park Eun-bin did, or to sound exactly like her. There's not just one way to portray somebody with autism. Both characters need to be seen as seperate with constant comparisons, otherwise you're missing the entire point. Because then you get situations like the one we're in now. It might not've been your intention to stereotype autism or to sound ignorant of it, but that's certainly how it might come across.
Do you know that ASD is actually the spectrum and everyone has it in the different way? It's obviously representation…
You say you're not making fun of autism, yet you're certainly stereotyping people with autism. Does somebody have to constantly sound autistic to be autistic? You say you're comparing two actresses' interpretations of the same role, but what you're really doing is saying Ashida Mana isn't acting autistic enough for your liking and therefore she's not good enough.
Also, for your information, Ashida Mana was also a child actress, as a simple MDL search will tell you.
Do we really need to have the "autism is a spectrum" conversation here? Park Eun-bin's portrayal isn't…
Negative criticism is certainly welcome. But if your opinion borders on stereotyping people with autism, maybe you should rethink that opinion. Might not've been international, but that's kinda what you're doing here.
Really liked episode 2. As far as adaptations go, I think this is a pretty good one so far, even if it's probably not for people who are bothered by it being mostly similar. Still, there are minor differences, and despite them adapting a 70 minute episode into 45 minutes, they still found time to add in new scenes. The cast is good, the characters are fun, the humor works, as do the stories. Honestly, most of my complaints are nitpicks so far.
well well well-- the fl looks completely normal to me she is only copying the korean fl ig as she can not portray…
Do we really need to have the "autism is a spectrum" conversation here? Park Eun-bin's portrayal isn't the "definitive version" of autism, yet here we are criticizing Ashida Mana (who also studied autism btw) for not acting in the exact same way as Park Eun-bin did. Like, what's the problem here, is she not autistic enough for you? For people who claim to love the original, some people certainly seem to have learned very little from it...
I also said comparing is fun, because it is, but there is a limit. Because at the end of the day, this drama needs to be judged on it's own accord, and not based on "the OG did this better" or "the jdrama did this better". When one goes comparing remakes or adaptations, it's usually because they love the original a lot, but then you run the risk of just constant nitpicking because one is biased when it comes to the OG they love so much, and that's not good. Compare all you want, as long as you keep an open mind.
Good first episode. And acting wise, it's good too. Also, before we start comparing Ashida Mana and Park Eun-bin, can we not? It's not a competition. What matters is whether Ashida Mana can convincingly play this role, not whether or not she's as good as Park Eun-bin, because that's not exactly relevant here. Same goes for the stories. Comparing is fun and all, but this drama needs to be judged on it's own accord, and making it a constant competition is just gonna make everyone miserable. But that's just my opinion.
Also, that escalator ride was beautiful. Loved that scene.
I think they have changed the stories of the side characters from the og ( like that anesthologist and her child…
They're definitely not doing the affair thing (not a problem with that), but they better not cut the anesthesiologist's story though, because then I'll be upset.
Unpopular opinion: I hate how they made Tae-gyeong this freaking puppy that constantly follows Su-jeong around. It's like 90% of his character, and it gets way too much screentime. If you wanna give him so much screentime, can you at least do something interesting with him?
If I watch the Japanese version while waiting for new episodes to be released for this one, will it be confusing?…
Not really. I watched S1 of the jdrama like a week and a half before this premiered, and I'm working my way through S2 now. There's nothing confusing about it honestly. They're different in some ways, but very similar in others, and as long as you don't go comparing every little thing, you should be fine. Heck, recognizing the things that this drama takes from the OG is part of the fun.
I get like the biggest smile on my face when they do something specific that I know from the original (or at least the first season of it), and I absolutely love it. Good stuff. I actually thought episode 2 was better than the first one.

But this is Doctor X, and there are not a lot of good people here, so he's probably bad.
