This was something I had thoughts on. Normally most of the costume dramas refer to women of ancient era as oppressed and powerless. Yes, there are indeed dramas where empress dowager, the concubines with background of powerful family dominate the harem as well as involve themselves in major politics. But I have never seen the same case for the princess. Most of the dramas depict princesses as the most helpless one when it comes to the actual politics. So the idea of having Li Rong as someone who controls and involves herself in politics and the court, made me doubt it's authenticity with the actual history. I was wondering if this made to allow people to delude and not actually to relate with real culture.

It's rather opposite. Them being mature are indeed acting mature in pleasing words. With years of experience, maybe they understand that in life you just cannot trust anyone. So rather than trusting someone blindly with their feelings on it, how about placing their common motives instead. And they also cleared their misunderstandings about each other's death soon, so that provides ground for their current partnership with each other.
