they used a different writer? it definitely feels like someone else wrote these past few episodes.
I think the main problem is the editing. It looks like they chopped off so many scenes shorter.

Same. I liked his personality a lot more in the novel. Of course I like his soft side but it made a lot of sense for him to get separated from Changyu and get whipped afterwards. It showed how much he really loves her.
