The whole Mr. Bei sequence at episode 30. The expression on Dan's face when he thought they were pranking him. The breakdown. Wow. I was sobbing. 😭 This episode was so great but so awful for my mental health. First time I don't mind the song overpowering some of the dialogue because it actually matched the whole vibe of the scene. Will probably rewatch that whole scene again later when I'm done binging.

Besides, if you've actually watched the show and understood what Dan meant about opening a door, he means giving her an actual escape outside of the palace. You know, like strip her of her status and settle for a much quieter place where she wouldn't be a collateral damage to the politics in the royal family. If he didn't know how to get home, how can he possibly open a portal for her?

It doesn't work like that in the drama, though. You think Dan would allow himself to be poisoned and abused by some stranger if he can just exit the novel if he wanted to? Not one of them even had the tiniest bit of idea that dying or killing themselves would mean they can have a do over because no one told them that. Why should they risk death if it meant actually dying in the real world, too? The drama showed not one bit of information about this so it's best to leave that theory of yours where it belongs— the webnovel.

Okay, I sat down on the last episode for a bit, then saw the game they played at that episode and realized something.

This is the first time in fifteen years Dan gets to play with people inside that palace (his cage). He was a middle schooler that didn't get to enjoy his teenage years playing with his friends and his classmates— instead he was abused, leashed and poisoned. 😭 Despite feeling jealous about Wanyin spending more time with the harem, I know a little part of him was happy. His inner child— the one that he had to hide in order to survive— is being healed by this change.

Think about this: when we read transmigrator manhua's the modern girl gets transported into a novel she read, right? She takes a new body and becomes the FL of that manhua. Yong'er is that modern girl. She's also part of that novel that Wanyin was reading. Wanyin is real because she's from Beijing. Yong'er isn't because her hometown (City A) is a made up place made by the author of the manhua's she's in and that her favorite group doesn't exist in Wanyin's world.

Can I just complain, though? What is up with iQiyi's weird subtitles. Some of the translation on song lyrics and phrases overstay on the screen that the convo dialogue gets eaten up most of the time. It's so terrible. 😭

For example, during the maseleoum confrontation, the translation's phrase on the ED's statue keeps showing up on the screen that half of what she was saying to Dan is literally not translated. I think this happened 5 times within the entire scene that I just had to assume that it was something important. Takes me out of immersion. They did not need to do it all the time but they do. FOR. NO. REASON.

Unfortunately, he did. :( I have to warn you, don't get attached... it'll hurt less.

The episodes today and what's shown for tomorrow are a little too happy for me... it's literally the calm before the storm and Duan is still nowhere to be found. He had an idea about the gunpowder, y'all. Dan could also be dying very slowly... and he's lying to Wanyin again. I can't do this. 😭

That's why I wouldn't even question his lack of affection for the kid. He's a walking trauma to Dan, a reminder of all the horrors he endured for years.
