Like, my faintest memory of episode 3 was seeing Wuyi sleep and then her opening her eyes to see Wangyan sitting by the window, telling her that they need to go back to the Wei house. I am so confused????
Okay, what the hell. I finally did a rewatch because there was something bugging me about Ji Ling forgetting the first time he and Lu Wuyi met and how I finished the show without ever knowing what it was about even though I never missed a release.
So, how is it that I completely missed an entire chunk of Wuyi having a dream about killing a half-demon child and Ji Ling meeting her there while she was burying the kid? How he saw her being upset about a withered flower with her hands stained with blood— which then explained the whole valley flashbacks.
How did that appear out of nowhere? Did I skip a whole entire 5 minutes of the show and just blocked it out? 😵💫

Not exactly. Remember, the reason why they had to keep killing Jiu Ying at the last episode repeatedly was because of the Nuwa Stone. She'd end up resurrecting so long as the Nuwa fragment was in her body. (Hence, Ji Ling had to go back to the past to stop Jiu Ying for doing just that)
Why didn't they follow the original script for the last episode? It would have been so good. 😭 (script below)

Out of all the Demon Hunters, though, I'm so glad Si Feng was resurrected. She was so cool that I didn't want her to die. Her fighting style was so well thought out. She literally turned herself into an actual bomb? And killed Fake Queen with her, too? That was bad ass. Also, I cannot believe Bai Ze didn't make it out alive in the current timeline. He would've been a great advisor to Shiguang, too. I guess he did take walking with Ji Ling till the end very seriously.

Honestly! If we look back at Wangyan and Shiguang looking through the Pomegranate painting, they were indeed witnesses with their full form. If we're not seeing Wuyi on the screen when told that she can only watch the past without interference, it only make sense that one of the focus would be the thing that accompanies Ji Ling throughout his life— which happens to be the doll.
They've already been dropping hints about it anyway. And she was wearing it when she went to the past so it's possible that her spirit/consciousness latched to the one thing that holds importance to Ji Ling from the start.
So, we can all agree that Wuyi is trapped inside the doll, right? She can't interfere but the doll is there to witness everything that happened. She was the one consoling Ji Ling all along whenever he felt sad but she didn't know it yet at that time they were talking about A'Wu.
It must really be scary for Wangyan to see Wuyi become like Xiaowei. Based for her reaction to Shiguang's hug, she's about to do something drastic that would need to keep Wuyi alive so she could live the life with her lover. I am actually scared for her...
I now fully believe that the scene where Ji Ling teaches Wuyi that hand thing from the first few episodes was actually part of the loop because so far, they have yet to explain why and how they met that day before meeting each other again on episode one. (Unless i completely miss it so if I did, you can ignore this theory) (My brain is about to explode)

No offense to Ji Ling, of course, but if I were to be realistic here, if I see my loved one (niece, if I want to be specific) die in front of me and then only to see someone wear their face THEN ask me to be their new niece, I might actually become a little insane. No matter if they share the same trait, I would never be able to live with myself seeing them alive in front of me when it's not even them.
That aside, if seeing Ji Ling's Chi Wen doesn't make you sad, they made sure pre-Ji Ling drives a nail to the coffin because this episode was just depressing. The parallels between Xizhai was heart wretching. I cannot believe they can make the backstory even worse. 😭 What the hell, GJM.
