south korea doesn’t have a ban on the production of queer media itself, it’s just heavily stigmatised because of the culture, although yes, lgbt marriage and same sex adoptions etc. are not legally recognised in korea

i’m pretty sure they release two episodes per week, so 9 and 10 this week, i watched it on hitv

does anyone know how many episodes there actually are, because this site says 10 but the 10th episode obviously isn’t the last one

tbh apart from jinah and riwon i don’t think i’ve seen any of the other contestants publicly mention their sexuality/ assigned a label onto it. and also in regards to the whole adding a new housemate and increasing the timing of the show(which i agree with cuz only a week to know each other is insane) the show was filmed in september time so unfortunately there isn’t much production could do to increase the content of the show to make up for the lack of riwon’s scenes. also yes they defo need better translations!! especially with a language like korean where a lot of the words can be gender neutral because i’ve noticed that in those cases, machine translation usually defaults to the male pronoun which is probably not contextually correct given the premise of the show 😓😓

due to all of this and because of the heteronormative and misogynistic culture that is quite normalised in korea- which definitely blew all of this out of proportion, the production decided to completely edit out her scenes and in turn any scenes of other contestants interacting with her

riwon’s controversy is that she used to be an ex ‘risqué’ streamer (i can’t really think of a better word mb) and that she had bfs and such, in response to the controversy riwon confirmed this but then stated that she now identifies as a lesbian and her last relationship with a man was in fact an abusive and toxic relationship which she was unable to easily leave. the controversy is mainly about her job but myself and many other fans believe that this shouldn’t be a problem and that she shouldn’t be viewed negatively. another rumour was that she came onto the show for fame which she herself said is not true and is insane because why would she come out as a lesbian on tv in korea of all places for fame

riwon has stated multiple times that she is a lesbian now btw!!

exactly, it’s insane that they chose to do such a controversial show (for korea at least) and then decide to not protect the women that came on the show, like women r already very marginalised in korea but a lesbian women??? the choice of not standing by riwon and defending her only goes to show that they’re doing this more so for profits than representation which is so disappointing

omg the production choices frustrate me so much!! like this whole misunderstanding would’ve been avoided if they both knew from the start that they had chosen each other. i’ve never seen such blatant drama stirring from a production crew before omds

them editing out riwon is so frustrating, riwon was involved with seoyeon and hangyeol meaning that those scenes were edited out too. i mean aside from riwon, it just means that the other girls lack an true understanding of their situations from the audience’s perspective. like we know hangyeol likely ended up with riwon, but we’re really only show her with minwoo, so you sort of lack this whole insight into what would’ve been a love triangle and a conflict of feelings for hangyeol. the editing just feels really unauthentic now, since we can’t truly see all of the experiences and feelings everyone has. like imagine all the conversations someone as talkative as riwon had with people, i feel like we missed out on so much tbh

frr, i feel like the length only being a week also left an unwarranted pressure on the girls, like they probably came on the show with the goal of finding a gf or even their future life partner, so the time frame of a week is hella short for that

ugh just seeing the little peeks of riwon makes me so depressed, like she really was the little sunshine of that whole group 🥲🥲🥲
