Twelve hours post the "OF" finale, I was engulfed in melancholy, feeling as if Nick, who had just faced heartbreak, was a real-life buddy. I saw him maturely choose to leave Boston, bidding it well and pledging self-love. It was touching yet saddening. Being a fujoshi, I get easily swept into the narrative, but allow me this bout of sorrow. To shake off this emotional hangover, I've earmarked this Sunday for a healing slumber, hoping to find solace in the realm of dreams. Yet, sleep eluded me as I kept checking the comments section obsessively. 😅
A few years later, in the not too distant future, Nick finds himself working at Pixar. As he and his boyfriend, a Thai-American, cross the street hand in hand, they come across a poster for a photography exhibition. Nick halts, spending a moment to scrutinize the poster.
“You like photography exhibitions, right? Let’s find some time to visit this one!” his boyfriend suggests.
Nick smiles silently.
“The photographer is Thai! Look, it’s dedicated to Nick…” his boyfriend looks at Nick, anticipating some reaction.
Nick swiftly takes his boyfriend’s hand again, whispering, “It seems like it’s an exhibition by an old friend of mine.”
“Your friend?”
“Mhm, but we’re only friends now.”
As they continue their walk, the colors of the sunset paint the city with a golden blush, blending seamlessly with the twinkling city lights. They stride into a canvas of memories, each step forward capturing snapshots of a love story that’s nothing short of a masterpiece.
Ah, the tale where an angel, with a demeanor of a tiny adult, mildly chides Koki for his rough edges, born not…
Thank you for your comment! I am merely expressing my appreciation for this BL series through my words. While I’m not auditioning for any critic position, I do enjoy exploring and sharing the aesthetic of various narratives. Have a pleasant day!
Ah, trading 'Forgive and Never Forget' for 'Forgive and Grow out of Top'? Now that's a motto upgrade Mew could surely use, like swapping out old boots for a pair of sassy stilettos, ready to strut into a Top-free future with a snazzy stride!
I share your skepticism towards Top, and like you, I've been vocal about my distaste for his character more than…
I can hardly believe I'm saying this, given my personal distaste for Top. It's like finding myself cheering for the underdog in a game, when in reality, I’ve never been a fan of his tactics. Oh, the quirky turns of perspective!
I share your skepticism towards Top, and like you, I've been vocal about my distaste for his character more than…
Absolutely, your observations on the narrative arc of Top and Mew shed light on an important aspect of personal growth—it should be self-driven, not spurred by external allure. The idea of changing oneself for another person can indeed be a slippery slope, potentially leading to superficial transformations that don't stand the test of time. It's like a tree changing its leaves in the fall, only to revert back to its true nature when spring rolls around.
Now, contrasting this with Boston's storyline, it's evident that his journey towards self-realization, albeit triggered by external circumstances, leads to a deeper self-reflection. His narrative suggests a more organic, albeit painful, path to understanding the importance of others' feelings and the consequences of one's actions.
However, your analysis might slightly overlook the narrative device employed here. Fiction often amplifies or simplifies real-life complexities to convey a message or evoke certain emotions. While Top's sudden transformation may seem unconvincing, it could be aimed at showcasing the power of love or companionship, albeit in a somewhat idealized manner.
Moreover, the show might be employing Top's character to explore the theme of redemption or change, however glossed over, to provide a narrative contrast to Boston's more realistic, gritty journey. It's a tapestry of contrasting human experiences, aiming to provide a diverse narrative palate, even if it sometimes leans towards the idealistic.
In dissecting these narrative choices, it's a delicate balance between seeking authentic representation of personal growth and appreciating the varied, sometimes simplified, explorations of human emotions and relationships in fiction.
When people asked last episode why Sand send away his bf and stay with his ex, some people said because he is…
Exactly! Ray's sassiness might sparkle, but it seems to veil a competitive spirit that's more keen on winning than on cherishing the essence of connection with Sand. It's like a spicy dish that's all about the heat and less about the heart!
Oh, Boston, forever seeking the quick thrill in clandestine restroom rendezvous, yet missing out on the full banquet…
Oh, the heart wants what it wants, even if it's a whimsical restroom rendezvous! And don't worry, your words paint a picture just as vivid, though with a lighter stroke of the brush. Here's to hoping our dear Boston broadens his horizons beyond clandestine corners! 🥂
I am personally offended that Boston didn't want to sleep with Sand and I am offended with myself for feeling…
Oh, Boston, forever seeking the quick thrill in clandestine restroom rendezvous, yet missing out on the full banquet of flavors that a hearty feast of intimacy offers. He rushes through the menu, oblivious to the zest that lingers beyond a fleeting taste.
I genuinely wonder what the difference between Top saying he wants to be better for Mew (with it being accepted/expected)…
I share your skepticism towards Top, and like you, I've been vocal about my distaste for his character more than once. However, I have to give credit where it's due. Top did one thing right. He continually shared his vulnerabilities with Mew. That moment by the fire truck, where he delved into his childhood traumas and thanked Mew for being his compass, showed a level of openness. Even though I dislike him, he made me see his gradual progression towards being honest and willing to be vulnerable in front of Mew.
Now, what about Ton? His moment of vulnerability only came when he was deserted by all but Nick (in Episode 11). I was clapping in joy at that moment. But then he went on to cheat in the club right in front of Nick and later had the audacity to justify it. It's hard to ignore that despite having more personal charm than Top, in the end, he fell short by a mile. Ton's occasional display of vulnerability seemed reactionary rather than a true willingness to change, which is where I feel Top had an edge, albeit a small one.
Though, I don't know who Samantha is, this is all I've been saying.Loyalty!!!Manipuation, cheating and hurting…
Samantha (in Sex and the City) is the high-heeled powerhouse of loyalty in a world where Bostons and Tons often trip over their own deceit. Samantha, with her cocktail of honesty and a dash of fabulous, shows us that you can explore the vast seas of desire without sinking the ships of friendship and trust. Unlike our dear Ton, who seems to have set sail with a map of manipulation, leaving a trail of heartbreak in his wake. Sexual liberation should be a joyous parade, not a deceptive masquerade, darling!
Only Friends Stay with you for life. I think that's the message, not a linguistic hiccup
Oh, what a poetic spin on a hostel's name! It's like finding deep life lessons in the label of a cereal box. Now every time I hear "Only Friends Stay," I'll picture a sage old innkeeper imparting the wisdom of the ages to transient travelers over a cup of stale coffee. Cheers to the unanticipated philosophy nestled within the quirky crannies of hostel names!
Boston let me down, and he’s no Samantha from Sex and the City. While his actions left a dent in the hearts of many around him, Samantha, with her unapologetic zest for life, was the epitome of a loyal friend amidst a whirlpool of romantic adventures.
Diving into the ocean of Samantha’s worldview, one swims against the currents of monogamy, but with the vibrant corals of camaraderie always in sight. Her sexual ethos, a playground of exploration and freedom, was a realm sans judgement. It was a doctrine of self-love, a sermon of self-exploration, and a voyage into the uncharted waters of desire. Yet, amidst the untamed waves, Samantha was a lighthouse of loyalty for her friends, always there with a witty quip to lift the spirits and a shoulder ready for the tears that sometimes accompany the trials and tribulations of love.
She was the maestro of living life on her own terms, a harbinger of the ‘no strings attached’ philosophy. Yet, her heartstrings were always tuned to the melody of friendship. While Boston stumbled on the cobblestones of commitment, hurting those he purported to care for, Samantha danced through the lanes of love with grace, ensuring her friendships remained unscathed.
Her mantra was simple: explore, enjoy, and be there for the ones who matter. A lesson Boston could surely take a leaf from. Samantha’s narrative wasn’t just a tale of sexual liberation; it was a saga of undying friendship amidst the euphoria and heartbreak that love often throws our way.
In the grand theatre of life, where relationships are the acts that enthrall the audience, Samantha played her part with a blend of audacity and affection, setting the stage ablaze while keeping the co-stars of her life tightly in her embrace.
