This is merely my opinion and I'm not looking for anyone to prove me wrong. I watched it and I didn't like it.
There's nothing to think about. It's not that deep. This drama is a mess. There are unexplained plot holes. The overall story quality isn't good. The acting is not good.
But I have no interest in discussing anything about a drama with someone who rates a drama (with a 8+) when it's just started airing, or who can't even rate below 5.

The only reason I didn't drop it/put it on hold and decided to marathon this was because of kiyoung and david. Everything else was so weak and there were a lot of things that didn't make sense. Would've rated it lower if it wasn't for their characters. They carried the drama better than anyone else and were the sole saviors of this for me.

Everyone else talking about the actual history of Goryeo has been decent enough to mark it as a spoiler. Most of the people watching this are not familiar with Korean or Chinese history which dates back to the 900s, and since the story is based on history then it is a spoiler for the drama.
Although it's very predictable that the fourth prince is the one who is going to get the crown, it's still a spoiler.
If a drama is based on a webtoon and there's a bunch of people who haven't read it and don't know the outcome then it's only polite towards those to mark discussions over what happens later on as a spoiler, even if the story and the ending is already all out there.
Am I the only one who didn't feel quite satisfied with the ending?
Had to drop a point from the rating because:
Eunjae's father's death went unexplained.
(Okay, so most likely it is exactly like Eunjae explained it to be, but I wish Jiwon wouldn’t have lied about the autopsy being 100% accurate, because if you look at her father’s death from Eunjae’s standpoint, then the confusion arises as to why did he die if there was nothing wrong with the coffee? Why did he do that to just the brother?)
Jiwon ended up getting no story whatsoever.
(So her father thinks she’s nice and reserved when she’s really not. She works for the school newspaper. Is that it? They could’ve done something with her lying past [and present], they could’ve delved further into her and Seongmin. She was a great character who kept everyone together but got no story of her own, which is a great shame.)
The past roommate plotline was disregarded (or badly executed[?]).
(If the pregnancy is all there was to it then they shouldn’t have made it out to be so dramatic, because due to everyone looking absolutely petrified every time she as mentioned, it makes you question if that’s really all there was, because the roommate’s pregnancy has nothing to do with them anyway. It’s not like someone was murdered so why be so dramatic?)
Other than that, it was very good, I enjoyed watching it so much and I really really wish they had at least 2-4 more episodes to better cover up those points I mentioned, then it would have been absolutely perfect.

I agree with your first theory, which is why I also mentioned that that twist was logical - one thing (person/face/identity) cannot exist in both worlds at once.
Your second theory also makes sense. I didn't realize that the airplane scene was when the reset happened in the comic...
If that's how it is then I might give Nine a go, unless it's just an ambiguous open ending. Because for example in City Hunter the couple didn't really end up together, but since it was a weird open ending on that part then it wasn't satisfying either...

I wanted to watch this because of the cast and because the plot seemed interesting. I'm normally not a fan of works that go too far from reality, which is why I haven't watched the other dramas you mentioned (that, and I'm not a fan of historical dramas).
I don't have anything against the plot of the real world and comic world interacting, because this is the main plot of the story, HOWEVER, in my opinion, why I found the plot twist stupid and irritating, though logical, is because the comic world is messing with the real world beyond normality. Comic characters coming to the real world, okay. But the writer's face just disappearing? The killer has too strong of a individual will. He is still a fictional character in the comic. Why is he able to still remember the fact that suddenly he has gotten a face and an identity? This isn't what I signed up for when I started watching this.
I'll give the writer this much - giving the story unpredictable turns is good, like you said, it's no fun when a drama is predictable, as is the case with like 90% of the dramas ever. However, what I'm looking for is a truly refreshing turn of events in a drama, like for example the main couple not ending up together or something like that, which is completely going off from the usual uniform drama plot. (I will be waiting for such a thing to happen even in my grave, probably, as nobody seems brave enough to go down this path...) This drama is one rare gem where this could actually be pulled off. But instead they're just taking advantage of the fact that one world is fictional and throwing random shit all over the place. Don't like something in the story? OH DON'T WORRY IT WAS A DREAM YALL HAHAHHAH!!!

halfway through ep8 and i don't think i can go on with this drama anymore. it's taken me an hour to get this far because i keep pausing and doing something else because i just cba with this anymore.
like i said in a previous comment, for me the drama already reached its climax and i was hoping they would be able to keep it up but i am just so bored and constantly rolling my eyes at this story now. it was interesting at first but now it just feels ridiculous.
not to mention the acting from the lead actors is actually horrible (sry jongsuk, luv u)....
