Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of them. I understand dropping a show that didn't catch your interest or simply didn't suit your taste because of a character or storyline. That's it. You don't get to see with your eyes exactly what happens next. Your brain doesn't get to process the rest of the story or the characters. But to only see bits and pieces of the drama and consider that "watching" the entire drama and then make comments without having seen the entire story or the characters is just, nope.

I also agree that how they did the kissing scene was on point with the characters. The pool scene was Yan Xing's first time ever being kissed . It would have been weird if she suddenly went all tongue considering she supposedly had no experience.

I've rewatched this many times, and each time I pick up some details that I missed previously, and those details add more to the story or character. A lot of people who comment about how bad this is often also admit that they skipped a lot of the scenes and I am like, well no wonder.
I agree with you, I also didn't think Yan Xing was annoying. I see a lot of comments about that and I think many of those come from filtered glasses that think Shen Du was such a great and wonderful husband to her. Like, in the first 24 hours of their marriage, he managed to draw her sword at her twice, hurt her with a freaking chopsticks, humiliated her publicly (that wedding sedan scene was cruel), and practically told her that she would never be the true Mrs. Shen. I think the way she responded to him was just a reflection of how he treated her. A weaker character might have cowered at Shen Du's threats but Yan Xing faced him head on, and gambled on her own abilities to find a way out of her miserable situation. Another thing that many commented on was when Shen Du's attitude started to change towards Yan Xing and he started falling for her, a lot of them said that Yan Xing still had her walls up and seemed unwilling to reciprocate. I feel very strongly about this. Just because he started liking her, and that he started treating her differently, that would negate all the other things he said and did to her before. I think this showed Yan Xing's steadfast personality and how much she valued herself. I think her response was very reasonable and that actually made way for a very organic transition of their relationship later on.
I have mixed feelings about the separation and the ending (2nd wedding). Shen Du's decision to divorce her as a way to protect her was understandable. But could they have done things differently? Yes and I wish they did but this plot line was okay for me. Yan Xing rejecting his reconciliation attempts nine times was her pride taking over. And Shen Du's willingness to keep trying was him showing her that he is willing to forego his pride for her. I liked the stark contrast of that 2nd wedding from the first. But the last episode felt rushed. I also wished that they had scenes after where they actually had time to reconcile and rebuild the trust they had as a couple. For this, I wish they had shortened the Gangnandao arc of the story. That part felt stretched for me, too.
Some liked it, others didn't. I think it's just a matter of personal preference. So, give it a try. Don't let other people's opinion sway you too much so that you won't try something you are curious about. If it doesn't work for you, you can just stop watching. If you end up liking it, then it would be worth the watch. I personally liked it. It has become a comfort drama for me. Enjoy!
I watched this the first time in Viki and then watched it again (and again) in iQiyi because they had better subtitles. I liked their slow burn (or very slow burn) love story. It made the development of their relationship feel more organic. I also liked the somewhat simple (?) plot line. It made the story easy to follow. Yes, there were some court politics but not so much that would have left you dizzy. There were also some plot holes but nothing too much to ruin the story. Great lead actors. Ding Yuxi nailed his character and I loved the somewhat subdued, yet powerful acting he gave here. Shen Du is a mix of some red flags and plenty of green flags, which somewhat worked well. Deng Enxi is a natural. I loved her acting style, nothing awkward and no unnecessary facial expressions and gestures. I also really liked her character Yan Xing. I liked that she was stubborn, straightforward, knew what she wanted and stood up for her ideals in a world where she was often put down just because she was born a woman, and a concubine’s daughter at that. Yes, she was a bit blind when it came to Shen Du’s and her own emotions, but she had keen eyes when it came to investigations. I also liked that they didn't make her one of those female characters who pined and pined endlessly for the ML. I think in the story, she was somewhere between 16 to 18 years old and Shen Du was 28 (?), 29 (?) years old but I felt that the real life and story line age gap was not that much. I suppose it was mostly because of DYX and DEX's incredible chemistry, so good job to the casting director for this. I know it won't be for everyone but for me, this was a very great watch.
🍉 UPDATE!TV Series #花开锦绣/ #HuaKaiJinXiu/ #EscapeToYourHeart by author Zhi Zhi (Blossom) plan to filming…
Ding Yuxi and Deng Enxi are both great actors and I absolutely loved their chemistry in Melody of Golden Age. I’m excited to see how they will bring these characters to life.
It was a good 1st episode. I hope they can build more from the storyline. I am somewhat curious about the FL and the ML(?). Looking forward to the next episode.
There better be a season 3 because the writers definitely did Kazehaya wrong. I get it, it's an interesting plot…
But I am glad they finally showed Kazehaya's feelings for Shinno in that interrogation scene. They didn't do that for the ending of season 1. But Shinno responded the same way in this season, so I assume it was the same back then as well. If that was not a confession, I don't know anymore.
There better be a season 3 because the writers definitely did Kazehaya wrong. I get it, it's an interesting plot line. If they had done it in the middle of the season. But as the ending? That's a complete foul. Unless... unless there will be a season 3 for this. *bangs head on the table*
That's how much they got me invested in Akari and Kazehaya's story.
I watched this a couple of years ago but recently watched it again and I think I grew to like this ever more. It's still refreshing as it was when I first saw it, but somehow feel more about the two main leads' relationship. It's cute, interesting, not quite normal but not weird at all. And I like how they dealt with that in the story. Just as in any typical Japanese film, don't expect anything when you watch this and just let it take you for the stroll (it feels more like that than a ride).
I am regretting (sort of) that I started watching this while the drama is still ongoing. Because now I gave to wait another week for the next episode. I kind of needed it yesterday already. The writer/ did really well spinning this story. It keeps the audience wondering and asking and wanting more of it.
they revealed on the drama academy award interviews :that scene when sanpei sensei was talking about his past…
That last scene in episode 9 is my favorite scene in this entire drama. Watching it, I knew that it was a one-take scene. But the fact that almost all of it was unscripted is mind blowing! The amount of trust between the two actors and between the actors and the director and the crew for them to have created that masterpiece of a scene.
It's been a while since I've watched a romance jdrama, and I am glad I picked this up. I was pleasantly surprised with how they played the amnesia genre in this drama. They did it quite well. Overall, a light watch with good storyline and script. I also liked the casting choices. Granted there were some questionable aspects in some of the characters, they were not deal breakers. The FL and ML are very likeable characters. Loved the aesthetics! The flowers, the color palette for the drama itself. The OST is very catchy! Would definitely rewatch.
Just. Simply. Beautiful. Wonderful. I am so glad that I stumbled upon some short clip of this drama in Instagram and decided to look for the drama title. The story, the cast (specially the ML and FL, but really everyone), the storytelling, the script, the editing, the soundtrack.
I am rewatching this series and I have to say, Kishimoto (Maeda Gordon) still has one of the best character developments that I have ever seen in a drama.
I liked this drama but it won't be everyone's cup of tea. I liked its dark humor and how twisted it got sometimes. There was one episode that encapsulated why the little girl, Eun Gyeyoung, died. The title of that episode was "An Ordinary Evil". Sure it was because of the culprit. But it was also because people looked away when she needed help. And because people covered up their own crimes. There were critical moments when she could have been saved. She could have been saved had the piano teacher, Mr. Han, didn't leave her when she was injured. She could have escaped had the truck driver helped her when she asked for help. She would have been found earlier had Bokhee and Jungho come clean about their crime. It's such an ordinary evil, to look away.
I suppose this may be considered a polarizing drama - you either like it or not. As someone who like the slow burn kind of stories, I really liked this drama. I remember stopping after episode 4 while it was airing because I wanted to watch it in one go, and I'm glad I did. I think this is best binge watched. I like the actors who played the ML and FL and at first I wasn't sure if they suited the characters, but then they grew on me. I loved how tender and careful their scenes were together - two people trying to heal each others' and their own childhood traumas.
I would recommend for anyone curious to give it a shot. If it's not your cup of tea then that's okay. :D
