They are siblings not just "brothers" and there is no bromance at all with anybody else. There is a bit of hetero…
More like sworn brothers. They're not related by blood. I think they met when they're all in some kind of military or martial art academy or something.
Nope he didn't trust his sworn brothers at all. But the bro he really shouldn't have trusted was his real bro…
lol. But joking apart, I think they might have had difficulty deciding which genre they were gonna go with the story, just like the anime or the novel.
They destroyed the action and intensity here, the donghua is fair compared to this.... They should never adapt…
This is not adapted from the donghua, but from the novel. Both the donghua and the drama have added some deviations from the novel for different purposes, I think.
I'm still back on episode 10 but I gotta know- does Zichuan Xiu ever use his episode 1 superpowers again? I get…
I think this is one of the mistakes they did with the fantasy element. It's not consistent. They actually begin the story exactly the same as the novel and the anime with a fantasy element. After that nothing. And then we get to see a tiny bit one in maybe episode 17 and 20 in a form of bird which has never appeared before. It's almost as if they went "Oh let's add this after so many episodes without fantasy".
In my opinion, they shouldn't have begun the story like in the anime if they wouldn't show any fantasy element anymore after that. They should have just shown the MC ambushing the enemy general with any other means. It would be still in line with the novel. It's almost like they were indecisive as to which genre they intended the drama to be.
I agree. At least they should have mentioned it again if it's a big secret.
By comparison the anime version sells the fantasy element from the beginning. The novel itself (from what I've read) is more about the growth of the 3 MCs and their military exploits and politics. The fantasy element is almost non-existent. But the anime adds more fantasy element making it more consistent from the beginning.
I think this is an adaptation of the donghua zichuan... I just finished watching it and it was nice.. They ommited…
The drama is an adaptation of the novel itself, not the anime. Both the drama and the anime are adapted from the same novel. Both the drama and the anime have the same key events but each of them either expand or scale down different events.
Totally agree! The poster and the English title suggest that this is a male-centric drama with 3 MLs. The two other guys should have more screen time than Ning. Why making the poster like that if we don't see the guys as much as it suggests we would? The anime has 42 episodes with a total of 11 - 12 hrs running time. This drama has 24 episodes, 18 hrs running time. And more than half of 18 hrs has been occupied by Ning. They had a good story and good actors and this is what the audience get. Such a waste. If this adaptation craps out (which already has), I might as well wait for s2 the anime.
It seems that the writers wanted to give Ning a much bigger role than what she is in the novel and in the anime. Zichuan is a male centric story. The MCs are all male and the although the FCs are the integral part of the story, they are minor. The target audience is male. However, we all know that most drama viewers are female and with the current women empowerment thing, they wanted Ning to stand out more to attract female audience. This is my theory. If that's what they were trying to do, I don't think fans of the novel and anime would be happy. At this point, I can say that the anime has done better despite some deviations.
I'd say, always set your expectations low. Take your time :)
I read on weibo that he weighed 128lbs while filming zichuan.. yeah he's so skinny back then. He was losing weigh for the role of Lu Ling Feng and while filming SToTD he suffered from weight loss headache, he got an accident during filming a fight scene. He got 6 stitches on the chin lol. He weighs more now for sure but still not bulky. I sometimes feel that he doesn't want to look that tall in dramas. I've seen footage where his female co-stars sometimes stood on something to reduce the height gap.
It really is a BAD script. This is literally a military focused drama and the scriptwriter must have some knowledge…
Tencent has the copyright of the novel, I believe. They also produced the anime. I guess that's why this drama also airs on tencent. Maybe tencent should have produced this drama instead of iQiyi?

I watched Fighting for Love.. 3 or 4 episodes and felt like this was heading towards romance so I dropped it. I don't understand. Romance dramas are already dominating cdramas like 99%.. in the contemporary, in wuxia, in xianxia, and more. Is there anything left for the non-romantic viewers like me?

Yeah, the story is actually about those 3 guys and their paths. The romance is insignificant but it's sometimes a factor behind certain actions and decisions. But the drama magnifies the romance by ten times. It's really a shame. I wanted the drama to be better than the anime because I really like the story. well, we'll see next week if the diabetes will lead to meningitis or not.

Or artificial sweetener? lol
Anyway, the relationship between Ah Xiu and Ning is not that complicated. They have feelings for each other, yes. But it's not to the level of "I will die for you" kind of romance. The anime conveys their relationship much better than the drama. It's sweet and innocent. Ah Xiu hardly ever enters Ning's chamber like in the drama. Ning in the anime has much more squeaky voice, which I find annoying (I guess because it's anime, girls gotta sound cute? I don't know), but in regards of her behavior, she is much better than Ning in the drama. In the drama, they make her obsessed with Ah Xiu, which makes this deviation hard to stomach.
