right..Its something New and diffrent for kdrama world But people can not accept that
If anything the issue here is that it really isnt. They spent all this money on a space drama and the most their minds could go is just a fucking romance in space. Its space for god sake do something interesting.

I've been watching with disappointment for years since this drama was annouced. Idk it just felt incredibly unimaginative and to my surprise it seem so do many people now that the finished project is out.

Lol…Netflix has dozens of new KD that they fund every year and hundreds that they distribute. There are bound…
If I speak🙊
It often reads as I dont want to face the idea that these issues are being similarly argued outside of where I am. It often feels like they haven't really been watching the shows or are completely unaware of the local social context these shows are made in.

Oh I dont take it as a personal attack. I was also commenting on the general idea of the OC as well and am just about to start this show though these reviews have me thinking otherwise lol.

I have no allegiance to defending trash western shows I take issue with people feeding this faulty notion of supposed inherent inferiority of Western shows quality wise when most just look for the most mainstream slop and pass judgement. The quality of mainstream slop be it Korean or Western is average.
I gave all very well scripted, acted and technically produced shows as examples. Most kdrama are no better than the average western show only difference is in certain dynamics like political commentary which often boils down to "I dont like the ideas being shared so the show is bad".

Kdramas are no more westernized than they've always been. What your seeing now is Korean tv creators being able to experiment in ways they would not have been able to previously on regular Korean network and cable. It might be shocking but people from all over the world can share the same opinion on things with the only difference being the freedom they have to share it. The freedom to share is what has been expanding in Korea and expectedly there have been duds. This oh it must be because Western thing is infantilizing

Please tell me what politics Shogun The Bear, Silo, Foundation or Severance was pushing down your throat. Literally none of these ask for a stance on political issues.
Some of the best and even general Kdramas regularly comment on societal issues in Korea and have since the literal very beginning. SKY Castle, Stranger, Nokdu Flower etc. This idea of insertion is ridiculously funny. The only way you'd avoid seeing something like that is if you have been watching exclusively romcoms and even then those often highlight aspects of Korean society like have and have not type stuff.

It seems a little silly to expect a show about the literal end of the world to not comment on the state of it, not that they always do it in the best way. I think you are confusing not displaying ideas you dont like with being apolitical.

No one can force you to watch anything at the end of the day but the idea that trying to comment of ideas or issues is ruining entertainment is a no . Broad ideas have literally always been tackled by media and broad ideas isnt just political ideas also I'm talking about themes like humanity, the effects of technology etc.
The difference is the quality of writing which isn't always good as has always been the case

Please I've watched kdrama for over a decade now and I can safely tell you this notion of supposedly being so much better than Western shows is utter nonsense. I love kdrama but very often the genre ends up spiraling in bouts of cliche and deadending on trends until a really good show comes along and resets the timeline. For every diamond there's plenty of rubble much like everywhere else.
I dont get this assessment of "Western shows bad" and it honestly sounds like a biased and often narrowminded take from people who clammer about everything being supposedly woke.

Just off the top of my head recently we've had Shogun, Fallout, The Bear, Silo, Severance, Riply, Ted Lasso, Abbott Elementary, Foundation, House of The Dragon, Cobra Kai, Good Omens, The Last of Us, The Expanse, Upload etc. All fantastically written and directed shows of widely varying genres and concepts.

Western shows have always had better access to truly pursuing broad ideas something that kdrama pre-Netflix struggled to do. If anything kdramas because of the heightened attention and investment from Netflix and the like has significantly branched out in storytelling. Squid Game would never
have been made (as a series at least) without the streaming atmosphere.
Hell even smaller scale hitters like Move To Heaven wouldn't have seen the light of day left up to local Korean producers.
The Western this and that bad attitude is misplaced and juvenile.

Some might disagree but the cartoony/camp nature of this show makes it a lot of fun. The emo ultra broody route of revenge has been done to death this is a far more fun exercise. Deeply hopeful for a continuation.

Title Cleaning Up
I feel the same! Specially after the recent episode where she lost all the money gambling! -_- I really don't…
Exactly. This is the take right here. I think a lot people are struggling with her character not being the typical kdrama goodie two shoes. She's flawed and very much real. It's not that she hasn't done some bad things because she has , it's that we understand why she does them but can also be frustrated when she does.

Essentially we're not rooting for her, but rooting for her to get better.

Know this is a very delayed response, but judging from your comments here I'm guessing you figured it out.

It's really rare ... not unlike the Greek chimera.... that we've gotten something this consistently tight from…
Absolutely agree with this sentiment. Though there are a few dramas that have been solid enough in the last two years those being Times from earlier this year and Team Bulldog: Off-duty Investigation from 2020.
Admittedly 2 in the last 2 years isn't necessarily a stellar achievement.
On The All-Round Wife Oct 29, 2021
Everyone here seems to be wailing on the husband and I just can't argue. Absolutely he's really damn near imbecilic but he's not some cheating, abusive monster.
Someone needing more backbone isn't what I'd call fair grounds to divorce them. That's an honest heart to heart conversation or a single couple therapy session solution. Also him trying to balance his wife and mother's contentment and failing at that is something for him to develop as a character. The solution is not to dissolve their marriage that just scorched earth.
it's pretty clear most viewers just want the boss and her to smash or are just engrossed in a soap-operatic understanding of marriage and divorce.

That being said with this whole cheating business she could have cleared it up by simply explaining then and there. Instead she storms out like a 5 year offended that images that do look like they show someone cheating do just that.
I get feeling frustrated/angry/ annoyed that they thought that but clearing it up so it doesn't escalate further would have been the adult move. But this is daily drama and logic gets left in the bin when these are being made.🙄
