Because of the way they made this series novel ending applied to the show failed big time

My whole point is the regardless of reasons and what you pointed out they failed big time to justify the ending. They made it into horror story where Tofu lives his worst fear of loosing Nut to Tarn forever.
You don’t need to explain to me the possible reasons I’m talking on how the message of the show came across regardless of what was in the book.

So I read in comments below that novel was never from Tofu’s perspective but from Tarn’s soul perspective. That would probably change our views about the book. However the series is from Tofu’s perspective so in my opinion the novel ending is highly inappropriate for the series. They should really consider that when they decided to show us the whole journey through Tofu’s eyes. Change of narrator completely changes the perspective of the viewers.
I’ve seen book author post somewhere (I think twitter) that Tofu in the book wasn’t as cute as In Sarin’s Tofu.
So if we forget about anything that we heard about the book and focus solely on the series the ending didn’t make any sense.
We got to know such a beautiful character as Tofu and they made him dirty like that. Since Sunday I can’t stop thinking. I think this series affected me the most out of all series I watched. Tofu joins the list of my forever favourite heroes and tragic characters

Well I’ve seen your explanations all over and it didn’t help me accept the ending. I don’t think they shouldn’t create the series, never said that. You didn’t answer to any of my points what they failed to show us in order to accept the ending. Again series is it’s own thing so we don’t need book to understand the plot. The only thing we need is series itself. In this case series failed to justify the ending. One of the comments from someone who read the book said that story was never from Tofu’s perspective. It was from Tarn’s soul perspective. It was huge mistake to do the show from Tofu’s perspective without changing the ending. There is not enough Tarn in the series to believe his great love that brought Tofu to life. What they showed us doesn’t fit book ending. I understand boundaries between author and the channel but this could be changed if they had proper talk

But they do because they paint it as a beautiful sacrifice for your loved ones happiness.
However it wasn’t. Tofu was like a person with depression who can’t see his own worth and see himself as lesser than Tarn and as an obstacle to Tarn’s happiness then he willingly drinks poison and we viewers are required to love him for this because otherwise he wouldn’t be “Our Tofu”. It’s complete nonsense. It is glorifying suicide as an selfless act but however you look at this, it’s not selfless it causes pain to people around you and Tofu robbed Nut of his choice. Honestly my love for Tofu would not change if he chose to not to save Tarn. He would be still the same Tofu who learned human emotions one by one and should have done something for himself at least once.

I see people interpreting the ending based on the book. Mostly what they heard from others and hardly anyone who read actual book. They try forcefully make people like the ending but most of those explanations were not visible in the series. We shouldn’t have to read the book to understand the ending. It should be self explanatory based on what was happening in the series. Unfortunately this ending failed miserably.
We didn’t experience that enormous love of Tarn that woke Tofu up so how can we accept Tofu sacrifice for him? I don’t care about the book. It was absent in the series. Tofu was presented as fully fledged human with emotions so how can we say he was not real, he was just Teddy bear? Impossible. He was human and him going back to toy form is just cruel. Again I don’t know how it was in the book but in the drama after how they presented him to us it’s not possible to think of him only as unanimated object or a tool to help Nut. Series failed in justifying the ending and saying it’s a happy ending is nonsense. Maybe in the book it made sense but in the series it didn’t

One of things that annoys me is that apparently they didn't consider Tofu as a human which is so bad because he was. He wasn't born traditional way but he was human and he learned human emotions. How can people say he was just Teddy bear or an unanimated object?

Doesn’t matter how people will try to defend it. Whichever side you look at this, it was clearly a suicide. How can anyone consider this a happy ending when main character literally committed suicide?

For me all those points of view that tried defend the ending made it even worse. All those explanations are just awful and made it even more depressing.

I sort of think that actors were obligated that they liked the ending because director and whoever was in charge were expecting backlash

If it comes to “The Effect” it’s a very heavy drama and not everyone can watch it. The ending supports everything that was told in the series. This show’s message (including ending) is very important but is portrayed in very harsh way. It’s traumatising but worth watching

With TMOTB it’s a different story. There is zero justification for the ending and you experience a pointless trauma.

The Effect was very painful show. But it’s ending was justified. It really talked about very serious issues and the ending was most common consequence.
TMOTB ending doesn’t have that sort of justification.

Interpretations of the ending where people talk about Tofu as he was there only to complete the mission I hate the most. In short it degrades Tofu to be just a tool to fix everyone’s problems. He was not Teddy anymore, he became human with emotions and now when he “completed his mission” he is stuck in a Teddy bear form forever. With all the emotions he has learned how long will he be happy? It’s going to be torture for him. It’s like a horror story.
I will never accept that he was just a disposable tool. It’s so bad.
As of now I read multiple comments that try to justify the ending and none has valid points that would make me accept the ending. I’m fed up of explanations that talk about how realistic it was. Realistic my a**
I love the series and actors but hate this ending with passion. I also understand anger of people who drop their ratings. I wouldn’t do it but their anger is justified. Bad ending can make you dislike the entire show especially if it completely contradicts what was told until the last episode. It’s like everything loses the meaning.
I personally can’t hate the whole series as it gave me Tofu but episode 16 doesn’t exist. And that marriage proposal killed me inside. They didn’t show us that enormous love from Tarn that brought Tofu to Nat. The only enormous love in there was from Tofu.
Also glorifying Tofu’s sacrifice is like glorifying suicide because he literally committed suicide. Nut didn’t get to decide who he wants spend the rest of his life, Tofu did it for him which is not fair. Now Tarn will live in Tofu’s shadow as Nut’s love for Tofu was greater and Tofu will suffer watching Tarn and Nut relationship because he will get jealous.

Same. The “realistic” argument doesn’t have any stand in defending the ending.
Also people saying that people who hate the ending didn’t understand the show. But we did, and the ending is a contradiction to the messages conveyed through the series

You can try not to get attached to Tofu but it won’t be that easy 😂

I feel exactly the same. This ending was really punch to my stomach because I believed they could end it differently to the novel as, despite many people saying it was realistic, keeping Tofu as human would make much more sense

I saw this on his Twitter. I'm also upset that Nut didn't get to choose. Tofu literally is an example of a person who overthinks. If he told Nut maybe they could come out with a different solution. I believe that if Tofu didn't commit suicide Nut would choose him. Even though Tofu thought his decision was right for everyone it wasn't. He should let Nut decide what is good for him.

I did. And it’s the worst, the most cruel ending possible. Everything that went through the previous episodes was just thrown into the bin. It’s a traumatising ending.
