For me, the show dropped a lot in quality in Episode 2 because they focused more on chaos and comedy than on romance. I was laughing and riveted during Episode 1 but during Episode 2 I got distracted, played on my phone, and wasn't entertained by the OTT comedic hijinks. I'm hoping the writing picks back up in Episode 3 and the romance-story-comedy balance returns to the one in the first episode.
If he doesn't drug Nubsib then why does Nubsib say he feels hot like his whole body is heating up. That's what…
I read the chapter and it's from Nubsib POV. At no point is he actually drugged, he just plays up the fact that he's hot as a joke because he peeps at Gene's phone and sees that he was looking up the effects of sex pills. He's just doing it to troll Gene because he thinks Gene pushing him to take a cold shower and worrying about him is funny. When Gene keeps pushing and says they need to go to the hospital, and then eventually offers to "help him" sexually, Nubsib tells Gene that he's actually fine because he doesn't want to take advantage. Gene doesn't believe Nubsib is unaffected and jumps him.
And I don't know Aey's exact motivations but I know he did lie to Gene because Nubsib isn't on drugs during their first time in the novel.
Episode 8 might have replaced Episode 4 for my favourite episode of Lovely Writer. There was so much going on and they fit so much in.
I loved seeing how much Gene longed for Sib with all of his moping around his condo—but despite how he felt he still kept his boundaries up. The director did a great job of showing that visually with the balcony wall motif. Nubsib only crosses the wall between them to kiss Gene's cheek when Gene consents. Just like how now he'll have to ask everytime he wants to enter Gene's living space.
The scenes with Nubsib's brother Neung were hilarious but it also begs the question: how disconnected is Gene from everything going on back home? Jap and Neung have known that Nubsib is plotting on Gene's heart for years but neither of them thought to remind Gene of Sib?
The quiet intimacy between Nubsib and Gene is really nice to see. The most notable scenes being when they kissed in the bed and the music swelled, and when Nubsib kissed Gene's cheek across the balcony.
I thought the parody of the BL media ran a little long but it was very accurate and on point. I cringed watching Nubsib and Aey act out their scene and give standard fanservice answers.
Aey confronting Gene was really scary and it was directed like a horror movie, along with the last shot of Aey's texts rolling onto Gene's phone. He's a really ominous character and Nubsib doesn't make it any better by withholding why Aey is dangerous. He should have come out and told Gene that Aey likes him at the venue. Now Gene is going to be blindsided and lured out to meet Aey at the hotel bar. For anyone worried: no Aey does not drug Nubsib. He just lies to Gene and tells him the drink Nubsib drank is drugged so Gene will worry about him.
I didn't really get the TumTiffy issue at all. Tum has never joked with Tiffy so I'm unsure why she'd jump to that conclusion. Does she think Tum is gay and mistaking his feelings for her?
Overall, it was a great episode and I loved a lot about it. I'll probably have to rewatch 3 or 4 times to absorb it all.
they were good childhood friends, nothing weird ab it i was also close w my childhood friends. its just 5 year…
Do you think gay kids don’t have crushes? It’s been established that Nubsib had a crush on Gene but he was so young he didn’t even know what he felt. Gene didn’t reciprocate because he couldn’t even fathom Nubsib liking someone at that young age. So what’s exactly the issue?
I am enjoying this series because it goes beyond the standard high school/university tropes. However it isn't…
This wasn't communicated in the subtitles (the subber kept calling Sib "Nubsib" for some reason) but as a child, Nubsib was only ever referred to as Sib by the other characters. In addition: In Thailand nicknames can be changed easily and a lot of the times people don't even know their friends' real names. Just their nickname.
A modern BL example: Gulf Kanawut's original name was Gup Nattarin and he changed both in high school. Gup was the nickname and Nattarin was the first name.
On top of the fact that Nubsib didn't go by his full nickname, he was also using his mother's maiden name. Nubsib and Gene separated when Gene went to a highschool with a dormitory, and he's 25 now. That means it's been 10+ years, Nubsib has a different nickname and surname, AND he's grown into a buff hunk, when the last time Gene saw him, he was a prepubescent child.
It makes perfect sense why Gene wouldn't recognize him.
Wait,I just went thru the comment section and do I watch this or not?
I'd recommend watching it and making up your own mind. The meta commentary on BL is funny, the main couple are cute and they communicate, the kisses are good but not gratuitous, the intimacy is done well, and consent is emphasized in the meta and between the main couple. The villain also got some surprising depth that we don't usually get.
The comment section for this show is just weird cause a good chunk of the audience are looking for problems that don't exist. The show contains no incest, sexual abuse, or anything like that.
I started out really loving this show and ended it with a different opinion. I do still think it's a great series and very refreshing for the usual Thai BL status quo, but the melodrama and dragginess of the second half really made me lose a lot of love for the show. I can differentiate episodes 1-5 without thinking too hard, but the second half just feels like one long blur of stares that don't go anywhere, repetitive crying scenes, and random scenes where Tian does something innocuous like breathe and someone goes, "Wow. Torfun liked oxygen too."
I think the show could have used fewer episodes and/or more focus on Phupha and his relationship with Tian. It felt like both took a backseat, and not because the writers thought the 30th tea crisis of the week was more interesting. But because GMMTV didn't want to show any "gay couple in a relationship" scenes until the last five minutes of the series.
The dragging out of their relationship left me so bored I couldn't even muster up excitement at them finally getting together, cause I knew we were only getting it because the show was over. And that's a shame.
I know that Aey doesn't like Nubsib and actually likes Gene, so I'm curious about how that's going to work with him aggressively confronting Gene in the bathroom in Episode 8.
It also kind of makes Aey and Nubsib foils for each other if you think about it. Both of them want Gene and both of them are willing to manipulate him to get him. The difference is, Nubsib lied about everything except his feelings, and he won Gene's heart by being good to him.
Aey on the other hand would rather hurt Gene by pursuing Nubsib, just to keep Gene single and away from Sib. He's twice as manipulative as Nubsib but with none of the intelligence and a lot of damage because there's no way he's going to get anything from Gene at the end of all this. Not a relationship, not money, and not privileges on Bad Engineer.
tl;dr Aey's plan to get Gene doesn't make any sense and it shows that he's got a few screws loose. Nubsib might be a whackadoodle but at least his manipulation plan made sense and worked.
Aey being so off his rocker makes me worried for what he's going to do after this episode. I know that he tries to get Gene drunk and then maybe-drugs him (which Nubsib accidentally drinks).
How far is he going to go after that? And is Tiffy going to notice and stop him?
The actors are close friends—going off Up saying that Kao asked him to stay with him in Samui for a month. They also continually say their friendship is close. They just don't pretend to be a couple and they don't do fanservice.
They're probably closer than most of the BL ships that make out with paper between their mouths on talk shows and pretend to call each other husband and wife.
Huh? Step away from Mame mind here. Gene was looking after the kid and trying to involve him because he didn't…
Your comment made me laugh but yes @ MAME mind. The Lovely Writer MDL comment section constantly wants the show to be dirtier and edgier than it actually is because they're used to watching MAME shows, and it just isn't.
One detail I found interesting in Episode 7 is that Nubsib's "perfect" persona wasn't him acting like the perfect BL seme, or a Kdrama prince—he was imitating his "good kid" persona as a kid because that was the last time Gene loved him.
Because of that revelation, I really liked the moment where Gene told him to say whatever he wanted, and Nubsib said he wanted to kiss Gene and he wanted to "take" him. It's a little lewd but it's real. That's what a real adult man obsessed with their partner would say! Knowing Nubsib's motivations and real personality, I'm really excited to see how he'll act around Gene unfiltered in the future.
I'm baffled by people agreeing with Gene's Dad who is literally just homophobic. We saw everything that went on on the screen and nothing untoward happened, which was meant to show how Gene's homophobic Dad has been hypersensitive about Gene being gay for years.
The point of this little subplot was not "homophobic fathers are right".
The overreactions here are pretty funny. No, the screenwriter won't be winning a Pulitzer anytime soon. And the…
I can't believe people are drawing the line under...falling for a childhood friend you disconnected with over ten years ago lmao. The OTT comments are very funny.
How is this relevant to Lovely Writer when none of the couples are cousins?
Let me provide an analogy for this ridiculous ongoing incest conversation.
The initial comments: "OMG is Nubsib a murderer!?" "Did Nubsib seriously kill someone!?" "I can't believe Nubsib killed someone.....wow."
The replies: "No...he didn't." "That didn't happen" "You're misunderstanding the subs."
The comments on the replies: "That wouldn't even be considered murder in Thailand guys..." "If Nubsib DID murder someone, it would only be considered manslaughter."
Do you understand, how frustrating it is for people to see 100 comments on whether incest is okay, whether cousins dating is incest, and whether Nubsib and Gene are incestuous at all...when there's nothing even remotely incestuous on the show!?
I don't agree with your opinion on cousin incest and I don't really care about hashing it out. I just don't understand why this conversation is happening in the Lovely Writer comment section when this show contains no romantic cousins. If you have a really strong opinion on cousins or incest, just post it to Twitter. Posting it here is furthering the misunderstanding for absolutely no reason. It's not relevant.
At this point reading the comments I truly believe you guys want them to be related. No matter how many people…
This. It's been clarified 1912839183 times that they're neighbours, and people are still screaming about incest so I have to assume they have incest kinks. We're going to be on Episode 12 and people will still be salivating for them to be related.
And I don't know Aey's exact motivations but I know he did lie to Gene because Nubsib isn't on drugs during their first time in the novel.
