There were supposed to be lines but they ultimately couldn’t land on what would make the most sense. Like, what would they say? “Hey, how are you?” “Are you my daughter?” There’s so much to be said but time/story didn’t really allow for it and anything that they ended up saying would lessen the emotional impact of the scene. So they just shot the scene as is and never added any more lines.
In some ways, it made sense for fenglai’s character to reference shenli in the context of her mother because his world started and ended with liuyu.
It was heartbreaking that he was so preoccupied with his task and keep last bits of strength needed to return…
🥺 that scene also made me so sad. I didn’t read the novel so please correct me if I’m wrong.
The way I interpreted that scene was that XZ didn’t see them because while their spiritual golden energies were there, they weren’t really there in their human forms (like only we saw them as people, if that makes sense). And to XZ, who has taken care of their memorial tablets for so long - to him, he’s already bid farewell to his friends long ago. Instead, this time we’re finally seeing his friends bid farewell to XZ, them giving their blessing to him to let go of guarding this realm and go be free (esp since we know that these friends gave up the last of their spiritual energies to XZ to preserve his life).
only one regret,,, shen li didn't had any time to call fenglai "Father", and XZ coudn't call him "Father-in-law"
In this case, I think it made sense for them to not have called each other that openly.
Because Fenglai wouldn’t have understood the significance. Up until the end, his whole world was just Liuyu. He had only been in the world learning about relationships for a few months before he was trapped in the abyss.
His first thing out of the abyss was to find liuyu. He only went back to the abyss to help because he found out it was his daughter and even then, he asked “did liuyu love this child?” and only when he received confirmation that she she loved SL more than her own life did he go back to switch places.
So in some ways, it wasn’t about fenglai saving his daughter but him saving the child that liuyu loved.
Did anyone else feel like Furong was feeling something for Shenli in ep 38? He was sooo close to say something…
I had that same feeling and asked about it below. novel readers told me that this was an addition to the script - it wasn’t in the novel.
Which makes me think why. Because from start to finish, the script made sense, there were no plot lines where I was thrown off or think that wasn’t logical. So my guess why they did that for the show was:
1) to show FuRongs complete character growth arc. In the beginning, he was scared of SL, then he tried to annoy her to get out of the marriage and then he came to slowly admire her strength. Now, he’s fully come to appreciate her as a whole - that even tho she’s strong, there’s softness to her as well. It’s almost like another way to demonstrate he’s grown up and is no longer a little boy chasing after fairies for fun little trysts. It’s also a growth point for him to be like, yea buddies forever and accepting that SL will never be over XZ vs throwing any tantrums or trying anything else.
2) it’s also another way to show that even though SL might be healing (healed?) from XZs death, she will always just love him and is blind to all other possibilities.
Yes. He’s no longer an ancient god but is immortal. There’s a possibility for him to get stronger powers through that special jade Lady Jin gifts to them after her wedding.
Question for those who watched all episodes and/or have read the novel, in spoiler tag below
Is it just me or was it implied at the end that FR ended up feeling something romantic for SL? You know, when he gives her the novel that was recounting XZs adventures, and he asks her hypothetically had she not ran away from their marriage so many years ago, would they be happy now? And then the way that SL responded that they wouldn’t be a happy couple and then he’s like yea, buddies forever.
Just the way he asked and looked at her suggested he might’ve had feelings for her.
I was watching Secrets of the Shadow Sect to pass the time while waiting for new ShenLi episodes and noticed that…
I’m not sure he played anything meaningful in ShenLi. I couldn’t remember his character so went to his Weibo to see who he was and he didn’t post anything about ShenLi (usually actors will promo their own shows). His Weibo is just filled with his other shows so either his role was really small or it got edited out. Just my guess.
It could also be he hasn’t shown up yet because he has the same surname (liu) as SL’s mother (who also hasn’t shown up yet).
Has LGX lost alot of weight since filing TLOSL? He looks so different in the interviews
I hope he’s happy and healthy and this is just a result of him up-keeping a healthier lifestyle. I know originally the director had concerns about casting him as XZ because LGX was a bit “out of shape” because he hadn’t filmed anything for a bit (I actually love his dadbod / bulky look).
I would be so sad if he was pressured to look rail thin like some of the current idol actors - and that he feels he has to conform if he wants to land another role.
They’re doing their promotional rounds now and he’s doing a lot more sponsorships and getting more attention. I hope he feels he can relax after the series finishes broadcasting.
Okay guys I'm a novel reader but I still have a question on the calendar cartoon images (for other novel readers):
I didn’t read the novel but my guess about the dog is that it’s a reference to Lin Gengxin and the ending (because express is released on Friday and dog is shown on Saturday)
1) there’s a trending meme referencing a scene in the trailers of XZ (in a dark fur cape) chasing SL (in a white fur cape). The meme is that it looks like XZ is a big husky chasing a little white Pomeranian
2) why dog? LGX IRL nickname is Lin Gou because he loves dogs, hence the trending meme is a husky chasing a Pomeranian. In an interview, ZLY said it’s so unfair, shes always been associated with bunnies but after filming this scene and having that trending meme, she’s now associated with a dog. LGX tried to joke that at least the meme portrayed her as a cute little dog

Fenglai went into the abyss willingly because liuyu wanted to protect the world from chimeis.
You sorta see XZ bewildered and confused expression when he was preparing to fight Fenglai and Fenglai just…flew pass him to go into the abyss.

“NBD. Just got a little beaten up by father in law”.

Director Deng Ke said he captured Fu Sheng so that he can’t cause any more troubles for our viewers and couples
And Fu Sheng said were it not for him trapping our couple in the cave, we wouldn’t have that scene we love so much 😂

It’s 1 day in heaven/immortal realm = 1 year in mortal realm. This type of timing is pretty standard across all xianxia.
