Xue and Yan families are two of the highly noble families of the dynasty. the empress (now empress dowager) is from Xue family and her brother Duke Xue married a Yan (Yan Lin's aunt) that's how they became somewhat related. Xingwu guards are the royal guards but it seems they're under Xue family while Yan family have their own army that's responsible for guarding the borders. they're at odds because of what happened to Yan Lin's aunt and Dingfei.

XW is suspicious of JXN bc he's a spy sent by king ping nan to the capital but on the way there 4yrs ago he had an episode of his illness while traveling with JXN. he thinks JXN heard something she shouldn't know so he wants to keep a close eye on her.

i also expressed my critique on zlh dubbing but there's no way I'd mention any other actors for comparison especially with the goal of demeaning the other one. it's not just about being a fan or not, but ig i expected commentors to respect the cast's hard work enough not to demean them under their own drama page especially when we can see they took the job seriously. after all, no matter how much critique one posts here it's near impossible to reach their team but their fans and passersby will be here and surely will see.

not sure if I'm right but there's a scene in the novel where empress JXN got so desperate when the palace was seized that she tried to seduce xie wei. but xie wei rejected her and said "niang niang, have some self-respect" then she felt so embarrassed and fled lol. that's one of the reasons why she's mortified whenever she saw XW in 2nd life but idk if that's the scene in the trailer.

i agree brighter roles suit ysx more tho i gotta applaud her decision to try something new and challenging. most of the time she's not convincing but there are moments where she connects with the character as well. she's dedicated enough to her characters so I'm personally looking forward to her improvement.

as for YWS motive to go to Gong mansion (I'm guessing this is what you meant), it's a mission. She's only doing it since she's promised freedom from wufeng if she completed it.
