The breakup scene wasn’t as bad as I imagined. They were both at fault. She could have tried from the start to persuade him about a long-distance relationship for two years, instead of bringing it up in the middle of a fight - especially when she had lied to him the whole time about going with him. They both said some harmful things to each other, and he was just as unreasonable as she was. I’m fine with this breakup. They both needed time apart to sort out their feelings and lives.
I agree that what we're about to see is extremely cruel. And while there's no excuse for that I kind of feel that…
I love them too. I have a list of almost 200 dramas with this trope that I’ve seen :D It’s really difficult to find a decent noona romance but China has produced some good ones. This year, though, has been quite disappointing for me in this department - especially when it comes to k-dramas.
that part was not on the novel, it's really heartbreaking, how did she had the guts to do that to him 😭
I also think that what she did in the drama is extremely cruel, and I can't blame him for being an asshole when he sees her again. The thing is, in the novel their relationship is hardly a healthy one. She takes him in when he's like 15 or 16, so I'm glad that they changed it here. There is no breakup in the novel but they argue a lot over silly stuff and miscommunication, and instead of talking it over, they're just having hate sex lol (he was already a university student then). I remember Li Wu saying something like, only when they're having sex does he feel like an equal to her. So I can understand why they wanted a separation time in the drama, it's much more appropriate and gives both of them time to grow and spend time apart.

Yes, but I guess they needed more drama :) In the novel he could have gone abroad but he decided to stay for her and was still very successful in his academic career.
Does she get back with her ex husband during his studies? I can’t remember if that happens or not. if it does…
He sent her an invitation by mistake, but she attended anyway just to show him that she had also moved on. I don’t think they’ll do this in a drama because here he is probably already married due to the pregnancy, and it’s around two years after her divorce, so he already has a child.
EP20 – What an awesome episode! I was smiling throughout it. They're so cute together. I really liked how well the director and actors captured the awkwardness of the first moments and days of a relationship.
EP17 - I love Cen Jin's father! Such a wonderful and wise character. Everyone should have someone like him. EP18 - the most interesting and juicy part starts here. I can't wait to see the development of their relationship.
