Not just some harsh words that harsh words kill someone
hjp met yongsan's brother for like 5 mins as a judge and everyone is like he pushed the guy from the bridge himself... they dont have a past or history with each other... HJP didnt ask those questions to bully him or with any ulterior motive... if a ceo cannot handle one question( which is true) how is he gonna run a business... also if he even found an investor with all the flaws in his business model, what if the business failed and the investors go bankrupt? (which was highly likely to happen with their business model)... yongsan just needed someone to blame his brother's death as he couldnt cop with the fact that his brother is someone who couldnt handle pressure and gave up...
yongsan's brother put everything in his life at stake to enter sandbox but there are also investors that put millions of money into the startups and if something goes wrong they will lose the money and it might end up making a lot of people losing their job... its the job of the sandbox judges to make sure that the startups they promote wont end up making a loss for the investors... its gonna give a bad reputation to sandbox which is a safe heaven for 100s of startups... its their duty to maintain the trust the investors have on them... its their duty to make sure that the investors dont lose anything but investing in startups that sandbox promotes...
one should be mentally prepared to face the hardship esp when they enter into a field like business where a ton lot of money is involved... one mistake by a company can not only ruin an individual but almost everyone working in that company... one wrong decision or carelessness by the ceo of a company can make 100s go jobless in a day...

so according to you if a writer fails to explain something properly its the fault of the character... then the reason why the writer couldnt make dosan more appealing to the audience is dosan's fault... why blame audience for liking HJP more when the fault lies in dosan's characterization and the way writer wrote him...

when the show never showed what was happening in HJP's life for 15 yrs how can we be so sure that he never looked for grandma?
all we know is he was an orphan with no money in his teens and 15 yrs later he is this rich big shot in the business world... we were never shown what all he went through in these 15 yrs...
we know what happened to dosan and dalmi in those 15 yrs... we know dosan had it hard with constant pressure from the parents, he was an aloof guy in college and after graduating from college he started a business on his own then his 2 friends joined him...
dalmi got into college, grandma sold her shop then dalmi left college and started working part time for almost 10 yrs... even dalmi's life in this 15 yrs is full of loopholes... she could have easily taken a leave from college for a semester and make money then join back... but for some weird reasons the makers chose to make her a highschool graduate... she was literally doing nothing to make it big in almost 10 yrs... she didnt even try self study...

do you really expect the writer to close those loopholes... she didnt even close the loopholes that was happening in the present... i didnt say that we might find out in the coming episode because i am almost sure that HJP's past is not gonna be shown in the drama... its no more relevant to the story and showing more of HJP's past is only going to make his presence feel stronger among the audience and thats the last thing the makers want right now... they are only going to concentrate on making dosan more popular among the audience and try to force feed the undying romance of dalmi and dosan... dosan is the male lead and he is supposed to get the limelight... i am pretty sure the makers never expected HJP to be this popular...

The thing is hjp's shortages are in character whereas dosan's current behavior don't go with his characterization... He was a sweet innocent goofy guy in the first 5 episodes and now he is either crying his eyes out in front of dalmi or throwing his temper without any reason... The biggest let down in a motivational youth drama is the male lead saying his dream is a girl...

It's never shown that he didn't look for grandma at all... Infact we don't know how he became so successful in 15yrs... You shouldn't forget the fact that he had to study and have worked hard to get that job... All this didn't happen in just 2-3yrs... he wasn't this rich for the whole 15yrs... It's also said that he studied and worked outside Korea but we don't know for how long.. we know he worked in the US for 5yrs but the rest of the 10yrs we don't know... Also if hjp and grandma met yrs ago there won't be a story to tell... The makers are definitely not gonna give a proper explanation to that as it don't have anything to do with the main story... Even dalmi did part-time job for almost 10yrs as she didn't go to college.. it's quite unbelievable that a girl who got into a top University and wants to run a business of her own didn't even thought of going back to college... Infact dalmi not being a graduate is a huge character flaw... These are loopholes that the writer conveniently forgets just to make the story move on...

SLS is a common thing but very rarely the male lead gets completely overshadowed due to SLS from majority of the viewers... In dramas like cheese on the trap and school 2015 or reply 1988 the second leads had more screen time than the male lead unlike startup... HJP had more screen time only in the first 2 episodes and in the current episodes he barely has a 5-10mins screentime...
HJP isn't a perfect character... He is just portrayed perfectly... He has flaws but his flaws don't add up to his characterization and make audience like him with his flaws...
It's the makers fault that they didn't make the male lead appealing enough to the audience and a big chuck of the audience prefer HJP over dosan...
i cried in all 3 of it but i ugly cried in ep 12...
i guess the scene that touched me the most was when grandma told she should have met him earlier... the way HJP was holding his tears was really good... KSH has such controlled expressions... he dont over do it even for once.... i watched the first 4 episdoes of catch the ghost and i like his over all look in CTG more than here...
wow, wow, wow, drama queens came here)people take it personally only when it's indeed about them)
HJP was just a judge who asked a question to his brother and that question could have been asked by any other judges as well... its made clear that HJP is mentoring in sandbox for the first time... so except for being a judge and seeing yongsan's brother for a brief amount of time he dont know the history or anything related to yongsan's brother... blaming HJP for the suicide of a person he met in a very professional environment is too much... yongsan's brother was already under too much pressure and HJP as a judge dont had to know all the personal sacrifices he made to get there... the whole yongsan blaming HJP dont have a strong base and is just bad writing...
So to be clear, just because we're expressing our disappointment in a fictional character that is loved by you,…
dosan didnt say dalmi is his inspiration or motivation or happiness... he said she is his dream... thats like making his entire life revolve around one person which is not a healthy thing... he makes all of his professional decisions based on dalmi and even goes against his friends for her... he cannot handle his temper when it comes to dalmi and behaves as if dalmi cannot fight her own battle... he smashed a nameplate of a ceo inside his office and he had to knee in front of that guy... he was lucky that dalmi had the recording... he hit HJP because HJP was pointing out dalmi's faults that dalmi asked for... if dalmi is fine with hearing her flaws then dosan dont have the right to hit HJP in her name... didnt dosan's father made dosan his dream and wanted him to achieve everything he wanted dosan to achieve? the drama showed it to be a unhealthy relationship and we all know what effect it had on dosan...

instead of blaming the majority here for loving HJP why dont you find the reason why most people love him and prefer him over the male lead? its not like HJP is played by a more or equally famous actor with tremendous fan following or HJP as a character was heavily promoted off screen... the entire teaser and promotion were completely focused on dalmi and dosan... unlike cheese in the trap where the majority of the screentime was dedicated to the 2nd lead, startup dont even give that much screentime to HJP except for the first episode...
the simple truth is the writer failed to make dosan a more interesting character than HJP... dosan is not the only sweet innocent not so rich kdrama leads... infact almost all the leads in current kdramas are like him... kang haneul won people's heart by playing a country pumpkin.. dosan here atleast is an extra ordinary genius... there were characters with literally nothing special to them and still managed to attract the attention of the audience...
I'm curious. I don't see how HE is the toxic one, enlighten me.
SST before joining sandbox had no business model or plan or even a proper presentation to attract any investors and behaved like they deserve an investor... when SST asked hjp to invest in sst in return of helping with dalmi the first two times he rejected it politely and its only after them going out of line he lost his cool... he came there to ask for a personal favor and the guys were trying to get professional advantage... anyone would have behaved the same way HJP behaved... the next time he came and helped them from getting conned and told them they arent meant to run a business which is true... none of the 3 knew even the basic of how to run a business... he even told them to go back to being engineers( which they are now)... also when the guys said he should be thankful to them hjp said sorry and thanked them... when dosan asked him to guide him he told( in a very normal manner) to step down as the ceo and find someone who knows the job... there was nothing negative in it... he gave a good advice... HJP only harshly criticized their way of doing business and not their coding skills.. then he criticized them for the way they distributed the shares... no one can blame him for that... even ametures would have done a better job... even after him telling the importance of a ceo wanting the max shares, dalmi and dosan were being emotional rather than making a rational and professional decision... the share holding they came up with was not at all practical... dalmi is lucky that dosan is madly in love with her... her not having enough share is also the reason why alex didnt show any sort of respect towards her... HJP never criticised the idea of noongil but he stopped them from proceeding from it because its a non profitable project and SST as a startup cannot afford to run it... he as a mentor was warning them not to go ahead with it... they finally got the morning group as investors solely because of blackmailing and not because of anything else... dalmi was able to blackmail the ceo only because HJP warned her... even after his relationship with dosan hit rock bottom and yongsan blaming him for his brother's death, HJP still tried his best to stop the contract... he didnt even once thought that the contract will help separate dalmi and dosan... if he wanted he could have stayed quite and pretend like he didnt even knew about the contract but he didnt... even when they completely screwed up he still went to check on them... he showed them the reality only because yongsan asked him to and dalmi also asked him to continue... there was no apparent reason for dosan to hit HJP other than letting out his own frustration... dosan and yongsan are still not ready to accept the fact that SST disbanded because of their carelessness...
also you are taking as if HJP was the only one belittling SST... what about all the time the 3 guys taked harshly towards HJP? physically trying to stop him from meeting their ceo multiple times, dosan being rude towards him even when he was trying to be nice to him just out of jealousy, forcefully taking his phone, cornering him in the elevator and hitting him for their own stupidity... HJP not even once tried to put his hands on any of the guys...
I'm curious. I don't see how HE is the toxic one, enlighten me.
he was their mentor and he wasnt needed their... also as a judge he isnt gonna give them any special treatment and vote for them even if their presentation wasnt good... also its the duty of the mentee to tell the mentor about the contract and the new developments in the company... not the other way around... who would have though 5 fully grown adults will sell out an entire company in just one day? hjp is not psychic to predict the carelessness level of sst...
I'm curious. I don't see how HE is the toxic one, enlighten me.
the guy took a sick leave because a guy randomly attacked him on a lift and accused him of murder... it has nothing to do with sst giving their presentation... just before the lift scene he was giving out potential questions that can be asked and trying to calm dalmi down by saying he will be their plan b and dont stress out too much... if hjp wanted sst to fail then he wouldnt have warned them about the morning ceo, given out an entire list of potential investors and tried his maximum to stop the contract... he went to meet dalmi and dosan even after yongsan treated him like shit and accused him... if it was solely for dalmi he didnt had to go out of the way as he is fully powerful enough to help dalmi... he was trying to save SST as a whole group... he didnt even once thought that the contract will help in separating dalmi and dosan... only his words are harsh not his intentions... if he had ill intentions he wouldnt have tried to stop the contract from happening as it gives him a perfect opportunity to get close to dalmi...
I'm curious. I don't see how HE is the toxic one, enlighten me.
hjp also said to dosan to step down as the ceo and take someone else... they did and dalmi became the ceo... her presentation is the reason why sst got into sandbox... he told them they wont succeeds because apart from coding they dont have a design or a model for a business and dont even know how to make a presentation works... that all changed when dalmi and saha became part of it... he gave them reasons why they couldnt make it and even give them solutions as well... he was harsh but he was never wrong...
the thing is by ep 12 HJP is reflecting on his harsh tone whereas dosan is getting away with his temper... thats the difference..
