Well i have a serious question here- Why do people not accept a relatable low-profile and not so perfect male…
neither NDS nor HJP is perfect... they both have flaws and they both have really good quality but HJP just comes off as more matured one... i think HJP is the one with more charisma and thats one of the many reason audience felt attracted towards him more...
the thing is people dont watch kdramas(esp rom-coms) to see ordinary simple day to day male leads... they need super cool alpha male leads... i understood it when people criticized ji chang wook's character in backstreet rookies.. except for lacking self confidence and cool quotient( he wasnt very ambitious and just wanted to have a normal simple life) he was literally a very upright perfect guy but most of the people including some jcw fans didnt like his character and called him spineless and a coward when he simply choose to solve issues in a non-violent way... i have also seen a lot of people having the same opinion about kang haneul's character from camellia blooms... but to his advantage there wasnt any cool macho male character in that drama and basically every other male character had flaws which made the ML seemed like the better guy... for one kang haneul's acting was amazing and then none of the other male characters had the quality to overshadow him... even though in fight for my way the ML was struggling to make a career like nam do san he still had a lot of coolness in him...
if the writers wanted the audience to root for dosan then they should have underplayed the SL... by the time nam do san was introduced in the drama, people already started liking HJP and nothing can be done...

i feel it will be unfair to HJP only if there is a time jump where dosan is out of the picture and dalmi spends time with him, gets to know him and then leaves him in the cold the moment dosan comes back... you know the typical kdrama formula were the SL takes care of the FL, gives her emotional support when the ML is away but she completely forgets his existence as soon as the ML arrives... from whatever is shown as of now dosan and dalmi's relationship dont seem to be special enough for her to wait for dosan for 2-3 yrs and not give any other guys a chance like she did with old dosan esp if she becomes a successful matured ceo...
dalmi had a hard life and if she wants a guy who will agree to everything she says and will do everything for her then its perfectly fine... she also dont have much experience dating other guys... so its not like she is done with dating cutiepie guys and want a more matured and stable guy in her life...

hjp clearly was interested in reading dalmi's letters outside the shop in the night... if according to you he didnt show any excitement then he didnt show any kind of disinterest either... there is a reason why HJP's character became more appealing to most of the people... one of the major reason is both the actors playing young and older HJP did an amazing job at portraying every emotion HJP felt... not everything should be conveyed through dialogues... when HJP denied he had feelings for dalmi in front of the grandma from his expressions it was clear that he himself is confused and dont have a clear answer to that question... this is the advantage of casting strong actors... they can convey the emotions without many dialogues...
i never projected him as dalmi's special childhood friend and i like hjp solely based on how his character is building up... the dosan hjp and grandma created wasnt 100% real but over a time hjp did write about himself without realizing it else he wouldnt have put his real dob on the letters... its not that hard to make up a fake dob... it is a fact that HJP knows what dalmi went through when she was writing those letters because she wasn't faking it and his attachment to dalmi is not solely because of grandma...

HJP is not really a friendly or funny guy... some of his actions end up being unintentionally funny... if he was a friendly guy he wouldnt be spending his time in his apartment talking to an AI machine... he didnt take his feelings for her seriously because it took him time to understand them and then he was trying to run away from it... the only reason he will not get dalmi is him wasting too much time to figure it out... timing is an important thing esp in kdrama... he is like gookdu from strong woman do bong soon.. had his chance but lost it due to his won stupidity... by the time he sorted his feelings dalmi already went deep with her feelings for dosan... apart from that hjp dont lack anything esp compared to dosan... dosan is lucky that hjp kept denying his feelings and even helped him to get dalmi...
