Title Glory
Remember that badass LJL from ep 1, who infiltrated a cannibal's den, fought off a gang of criminals, killed a…
šŸ’Æ Agree! Seems like something’s gone awry since then.

I liked the show to start with as it showed a lot of promise! But the pace has stalled for a while now. There’s no clear direction with the plot, the murder ā€œcold caseā€ central to Lu Jianglai is fine, but nothing overly gripping; plus several characters that seem to serve no real purpose. Even the relationship between the two leads are trying. There’s a massive power imbalance between them, very little trust and genuine affection, and no observable depth of emotion.

I get that this is a story that hinges on matriarchal dominance, which I don’t have an issue with. Just that the overall journey is meandering and the plot has seemingly flatlined.

I haven’t watched them yet but I hope episodes 28/29 will make a difference moving forward!

I hear you!! I made it to the end too, but still felt like this drama just missed the mark in so many ways. Really disappointing. šŸ™

You are aware that his initial attitude towards her that you label as "misogynistic" was not because he actually…
Well, actually if you must, Shen Du has his own ambitions and goals, and the arranged marriage was a restriction, preventing him from pursuing his ultimate goal of revenge. He fiercely values privacy and autonomy and sees this unwelcomed marriage (to an utter stranger and suspected spy, no less) as a huge obstacle to his plans. However, his actions towards his new bride reveal a deeper issue: his dismissive and harsh behaviour reflects a level of misogyny, as he completely disregards her feelings and autonomy, (initially) treating her more as thorn in his side rather than as an individual with her own worth, feelings and voice. This semi-toxic attitude towards her in the early episodes, exposes his inability to separate his personal frustrations and his unpleasant treatment of his new wife.

Good of you taking time to share your thoughts on what misogyny means, in case you thought I was unaware. Though, kudos to the scriptwriter and actor for creating such a rich persona as Shen Du. In fact, both male and female leads were strong characters, and very enjoyable to watch. Hope you enjoyed the series!
