A gem that gripped me from the first scene to the final frame.

I absolutely loved everything about Prisoner of Beauty! From the first episode, it was clear this was not just another c-drama. The writing was sharp, emotionally layered, and refreshingly intelligent. The script wove complex themes with elegance, and it was brought to life by a stellar cast and high production values.

The chemistry between the ML and FL? Off the charts. Their dynamic wasn’t just electric — it was nuanced, raw, and deeply affecting. Both leads delivered powerhouse performances, navigating the emotional minefield of the story with great range and depth.

One of the strengths of this series was how well the characters were written. Most weren’t painted in black or white, but lived in shades of grey, which made their arcs compelling. Add to that the perfectly placed moments of dry, subtle humour, and it made for a viewing experience that was engaging, emotionally rich and balanced.

Director Deng Ke deserves special mention. His direction showed respect for the story and the audience. The cinematography, pacing, and character development felt intentional and very considered.

If I had one quibble, it’s that the last three episodes felt a bit rushed, but it still wrapped up with a happy and mostly satisfying conclusion.

All in all, Prisoner of Beauty was an absolute standout. I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long time to come!!

Flawed Script and Character Development, Many Plot Holes

The overall plot seems engaging enough, but I feel the scriptwriter has done a subpar job with characters and parts of the plot.

For instance, the FL was raised under humble circumstances with no sign of a higher education (or any education!), she somehow transforms into a confident, articulate leader the moment she arrives in the capital. This miraculous evolution lacks any solid foundation in the storyline, making her overnight capabilities in strategy and leadership so totally unconvincing.

Both the FL and ML have just ONE facial expression each throughout (especially the ML). Both characters come across as flat and uninspiring, more so given the weak script. Plus it seems there’s zero chemistry between the FL and ML! They are meant to be in love, but there’s no real evidence of it.

On a positive note, Wen Zheng Rong shines in her role as Ruan Xiwen. Wow! Unfortunately, the depth she brings contrasts so starkly with the rest of the cast, to the point I feel she stands out as if she’s in the wrong movie set.

Overall, The Glory (2025) failed to fully engage for me. It lacks the compelling storytelling and character development seen in top-tier dramas like "Flourished Peony”, “Blossom" or "The Double." I’d like to see how the story ends but I think this series is somewhat of a miss for me.

Not a winner :(

Given the strong rating on MDL, and despite wanting to love it, I simply did not.

For starters, there was no heartfelt chemistry between ML and FL. Zilch. It just looked like two (very nice) people who have to act like they were deeply in love because the script called for it! The cast had good actors overall but something just didn't come together as a whole.

Plus the second half of the series felt disjointed and the plot became increasingly convoluted.

It was enjoyable enough but Who Rules the World simply was not a winner for me.

Great Cast, Strong Leads with Amazing Chemistry, Good Script. A Real Win!

I started watching this series with no real expectations. I was on a long flight and needed something to tide me through at least a part of it. The initial episodes were sad and dark for the FL but I’m really glad I persevered!

There’s a lot to love about Flourished Peony: strong performances, a well-paced script, a very good cast, and stunning sets and costumes – the high production value really shows. I especially enjoyed the dynamic between all the characters, but the undeniable highlight was the sizzling chemistry between the ML and FL. Admittedly, the slow burn was at times very frustrating to watch, but the yearning and emotional depth felt so real – a true credit to the director’s vision and the actors’ skill.

Love, love, love! Bring on Season 2!!!

Visually Engaging But Emotionally Frustrating

Overall, I enjoyed both S1 and now S2. The heart of the series, the deep, abiding love between Mu Dan and Jiang Chang Yang, was beautifully portrayed and kept me emotionally invested. Here’s a quick summary:

Stunning visuals and cinematography: 10/10
Beautiful costumes and detailed set design: 10/10
Off-the-charts chemistry and enduring love between ML and FL: 10/10
Li Xian + Yang Zi pairing: 10/10
Strong supporting cast: 10/10

BUT….

Unnecessarily dragged-out romantic tension, overly tedious & repetitive miscommunication arc, half-baked late subplots, and a tiresome script preaching on themes of female empowerment and righteous court officials (again and again... and again): 3/10

Strong premise, lackustre finish

Tastefully Yours had all the ingredients for a delightful Netflix binge: food as a passion and love language, personal growth, cultivated friendships, and an enemies-to-lovers arc served with a side of comic relief. The premise was fun and promising. For the first two-thirds of the series, it mostly delivered. Add in vicious sibling rivalry and a Machiavellian, conniving matriarch, and things were sizzling nicely.

Alas, somewhere along the way, the scriptwriters must have taken a wrong turn. The final third was ridiculously off-course: a meandering, tedious detour through a landscape of improbable scenarios, minor plot holes, and the kind of detour that makes you wonder if someone misplaced the original script! It does eventually limp back onto the right track in the final 100 metres, but by then, the damage is done. A happy ending, yes – but certainly not a satisfying one.

The lead characters were likeable, and the actors brought charm to their roles, even if the romantic chemistry was more simmer than sizzle. Overall, it was light and entertaining. Given the (dumb) final stretch, I’m also glad the series was (mercifully) short.

Intriguing All the Way to the End!

Legend of Zang Hai is one of those dramas that keeps you engaged with confident storytelling, good pacing and nice visuals. I didn’t emotionally bond with the characters in quite the same way as I have with some other C-dramas, but that didn’t take away from how much I thoroughly enjoyed this series. And let’s be honest - sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and appreciate the craft.

At first glance, the premise appears to follow a typical revenge arc. But it quickly reveals itself to be something far more layered: a narrative about political manoeuvring, strategy, and the complex web of interpersonal relationships that underpin Zang Hai’s world.

The writing is tight. Every character action, motivation, and consequence is anchored in a solid backstory and emotional logic. That should be a given in any script but we know it’s not always the case in C-dramaland! I feel the writers treated the material, and the characters, with the respect these deserve.

Plot-wise, the twists are clever and the reveals well-timed, keeping viewers engaged to the end. There is a nice resolution in the end.

The casting is solid. Xiao Zhan is compelling in the lead role. This is my first time seeing his work, and I found his portrayal of Zang Hai to be measured, layered, and full of subtle angst. A complex role, well executed. I did feel a subtle lack of chemistry between the ML and FL. However, given that romance is not a central pillar of the plot, it’s not a deal breaker for me.

What moved me was the relationship between Zang Hai and Master Gao Ming. It is heart-warming, well-explored and for the most part, sincere. A gentle light in the otherwise cold and difficult world of Zang Hai.

In short: this is a series worth your time. If you're after something engaging, visually polished, and grounded in good writing, Legend of Zang Hai delivers. Hope you enjoyed it too. :)

Fantastic chemistry between two lead characters! :)

The first few episodes were a bit hard to watch as I found Shen Du somewhat misogynistic and rude to Yan Xing. BUT having said that, the plot settled into a nice rhythm and the series seem to have found a nice pace. I feel that the second half is much better watching! Not a perfect series by any means – some glaring plot holes and improbable scenarios. If you just suspend disbelief, it’s okay! It’s meant to be light entertainment!
Great chemistry between ML and FL, fairly engaging plot and decent acting all round. I really enjoyed it! :)
