Strong premise, lackustre finish

Tastefully Yours had all the ingredients for a delightful Netflix binge: food as a passion and love language, personal growth, cultivated friendships, and an enemies-to-lovers arc served with a side of comic relief. The premise was fun and promising. For the first two-thirds of the series, it mostly delivered. Add in vicious sibling rivalry and a Machiavellian, conniving matriarch, and things were sizzling nicely.

Alas, somewhere along the way, the scriptwriters must have taken a wrong turn. The final third was ridiculously off-course: a meandering, tedious detour through a landscape of improbable scenarios, minor plot holes, and the kind of detour that makes you wonder if someone misplaced the original script! It does eventually limp back onto the right track in the final 100 metres, but by then, the damage is done. A happy ending, yes – but certainly not a satisfying one.

The lead characters were likeable, and the actors brought charm to their roles, even if the romantic chemistry was more simmer than sizzle. Overall, it was light and entertaining. Given the (dumb) final stretch, I’m also glad the series was (mercifully) short.
