I see your point, however, there a few things I kind of disagree or don’t understand. What are you trying to…
Thank you for the polite reply. Greatly appreciated, and thank you for explanations you gave, it gave me some insight.

As for the first Justifying and admiring the show in itself. The plot, the characters, and that also includes the overall message of the series, which i find inherently problematic. Not the toxicity itself, but they do with it as a show.

As for the novel, I think the fact the you need to read the novel in order to understand the show, or understand characters better, directly implies that the show isn't that good then. And I am judging the ongoing season, so this is how I form my opinion. I have no intentions on reading the novel, it is not in my interests. And with what you explained, I still see the plot as still too simplistic, not addressing the issues that would've been interesting and refreshing to address, and hence rather problematic.

And the developing, ideally, really, shouldn't happen in one episode. It is an ongoing process, and the series absolutely fails with that. Again, in my opinion.

To all who wonder why even those who don’t like the show watch it, and, heavens forbid!, even dare to express their dissatisfaction with the series.

First of all, we all are allowed to not only hold opinions, but also express it. I want to say how bad this show is in my opinion, as much as someone might want to say why they like it.

Secondly, I do find the show concerning and intriguing at the same time. I will finish watching it, so I will have the full right to judge the show. I want to rant about it knowing exactly what I’m complaining about. So please do not go here with ”if you don’t like it don’t watch it” message. I do what I want as all other people here, so yeah. Freedom and all.

Learn to deal with opinions you don’t like without attacking or assuming someone misunderstood something.

Now, complexity of the characters and thought-provoking plot (as many people seems to be so fixated on) do indeed have a place in this world and no one is trying to say otherwise. I don’t really like fluff myself. But. What *is* concerning about this show is not the toxicity as it is, but justification of it and admiration, that by the public. The message of the series so far has been rather disturbing, and the way the public is fascinated with it, equally unsettling. Just because it is Japanese, of a different cultural mindset, absolutely does not make the submissive kind of relationship that is portrayed there, good or even okay. Kiyoi perspective did not justify his cruel in many ways actions towards Hira, just showed a very narcissistic side of him. As well as Hira just doesn’t have any self-respect, and he’s not gaining any. He’s not developing as a character as all, which makes it especially hard for me to sympathise. Well, Kiyoi hasn’t changed at all too, for that matter.

For what it tries to be, the show absolutely lacks the complexity. In my humble opinion.

I am as well perfectly aware that this is fiction, just in case someone decides to point it out once again.
