Jerry prefers the sad ending and I personally think it’s acceptable too as to honor the original author’s story. The only thing I would not be able to stand is if…
She hasn’t replied to him in months and the first time she answered the phone, she doesn’t even say anything. His “let’s break up” was probably saying you don’t need to avoid me anymore, I promise not to bother you.
For those who have read the novel, please tell me how the 2nd couple ended. Is there a happy ending for Yuan Qi
No 2nd couple in the novel. Definitely not mom and this young guy.
The only “other” couple tackled was another gardener and He Ran’s cousin. He Ran cousin committed suicide after she was married off to another man. This happened early in the novel.
I think He Ran swapped a copy(the one XH had hanging on the wall) with the original. Remember in ep4 after she…
In the drama, it was never stated how Xiao Han’s brother died. I was waiting for Xiao Han or Qin Zao to comment on He Ran’s symptoms during ep18-19. In the novel, Xiao Han was quick to be alarmed when he saw her getting ill saying “my brother died of leukemia, I know more than you think”. My crazy theory actually thinks his brother might have had an affair with his ex. Both dead and he seemed so at lost after. Also Xiao Han mother burned all Xiao Han’s ex pictures. Obviously pointing a very distressing story behind

Link to a song Jerry Yan covered just a few days before he started filming for the drama. It's an emotional song - the composer wrote it after he met a man who lost his wife about 30 years ago and yet everyday returns to a building they used to go to.
Fans believed he chose this to internalize the sad longing his character will end with. Now thinking if the drama ends sadly(which Jerry actually prefers), the song could be tweaked to be part of the OST.
Lyrics: If you have the time Come and see me, ease my mind Come see the snow that covers everything Then melts across my eyes And if you come, don't be afraid When you notice how much I've changed Throw the memory into the sea
I have never been to where you could see the northern lights And I have never heard the sound of fireworks at night But I see the stars in your eyes, they shine bright You didn't say a word, the wind was all I heard
Suddenly that night you came to me Like a dream, and we danced until half past three Under the early dawn so hazy The Mohe ballrom in 1980
I have never been to where you could see the northern lights And I have never heard the sound of fireworks at night But I see the stars in your eyes, they shine bright You didn't say a word, the wind was all I heard
Suddenly you were gone from me In my dreams, you are all I see A memory I still hold unto As I danced alone in the Mohe Ballroom
If you have the time, Come and see me, ease my mind Come see the snow that covers everything Then melts across my eyes And if you come, don't be afraid When you notice how much I've changed Cause I am not the man you knew in the Mohe Ballroom anymore
If there comes a time When I can't call upon my faith When the wind blows through the garden And erases what remained If that time truly come Would you let me see your face Before we blow away Before we blow away
So the OST really brought much more to the drama. On the third day of airing, they originally only released 8 songs in the list but now its’s 13? Putting under spoiler a possible additional song in the end:
Where did Xiao han get the painting from? I think it's original, but how did he get it in the 1st place?
I think He Ran swapped a copy(the one XH had hanging on the wall) with the original. Remember in ep4 after she goes reading the “symptoms of true love” and she goes to her closet. We finds her with the original from her dad. Later that episode, she goes to Xiao Han bringing a big frame. Saying it was for her earlier portrait of him.
There seems to be a breakup coming up in 20-21 previews?
He Ran have a dark past. She hurt a classmate before(accident but still pretty serious).
As for Xiao Han is not as “noble” in the book. Remember she’s younger in the book, they consummate their relationship even before he knew her real age and after he found out, never really tried to stop it. She is 18 so that’s fine but I am not as compelling for me with Xiao Han drama restraint and all. But that may be probably just my bias for Jerry.

He find out about her sickness when he heard about her lab tests. She was offhand saying what would he know of such results. No need to worry. Then he tells her his older brother died of leukemia. He knows about abnormal white blood cells count and all.
Anyway after he finds out, he pushes him away again and he basically lets her thinking he must not love him for real/ enough. But just a few days later, she realized she wants to fight and live to be with him…

I think it will be the mother’s doing and her illness that will make her leave him again here in the drama. in the book, the mother only finds out about them almost at the end. A little after Xiao Han himself found out about her illness

They changed a lot of the dynamics in the drama. (I like it as characterization - book HR and XH are not exactly “good” people). See in the book after she bid him goodbye after that “summer to remember” but went looking for him during break, she asks him “how come he never went to find her?” Unlike the drama, they never confess properly or promised each other anything at this point. She leaves him again after break like the last time.
So months later, when she heard from her classmate a handsome older guy running a flower shop. She knew it was him. She is happy but she already resolved to not be with him because of her illness. In a way, Xiao Han was trying to pursue her for leaving everything back in the seaside village. He Ran was all ways pushing him away and yet hates everyone coming unto him. Haha. It’s like when they first met in the drama. All sexual tension. In the book, whenever He Ran overly jealous, she makes him come to her so she can feel he only wants her. This saddens Xiao Han thinking her feelings weren’t real. He still doesn’t know about her illness at this point. So after a semester of push and pull, this time it’s Xiao Han decides he has enough of her games.
I liked this part of the book. Since they changed the relationship status in the drama, I am still excited how it will turn out. it will still be angst fest for they already declared loved and yet HeRan will still end the relationship

If following the book, yes. It’s kind of exciting though(had hoped they utilized this arc a bit longer, I like angst), in the book it’s time for him to kind of “pursue” her.
You can tell the difference between his last two FL. I do love Shen Yue, but she made Count Your Lucky Stars a…
I love Count Your Lucky Stars and Shen Yue. She did well. And her chemistry with Jerry was great too. I really don’t see the need to compare. Who knows if Jerry never did Count Your Lucky Stars, he might never have been considered for this role in Forbidden Flower.
People complained of production, etc and etc in CYLS. Jerry likes to listen to constructive criticism. He is very hardworking. With this drama, he redid the age gap thing with all those feedback in mind probably. Script. Production. Budget.
Let’s not compare. Jerry’s motto is “everything is the best arrangement” (God/ Fate arranged everything). Him accepting CYLS was the reason he is acting again. Remember he was almost ready to retire quietly. I do however thank Forbidden Flower for giving him finally the project that will equal/ surpass Dao Ming Si

Can’t believe they would cut Jerry saying I love you. It’s not like his fans hearts would hurt any less. 😅
Just use translate to read
