Not sure if this was a deleted scene or if i just didn't pay enough attention when I was watching... what's up…
Xiao Han never explained anything about the cat wooden figurines but he started carving one/both at end of episode 1. The only 2 times I remember seeing them are ep12/ XH hometown and ep 20 when XH turned the stretching cat away from the other cat. I wish these small details were explained more as to get more of his perspective.
Is it kind of like how in English we say "babe" or "baby"? I guess the feeling is probably different though.
Actually “baby” could be a translation. Before start of series when Jerry made a post to promote the drama, “my baby is here” was the translation given to me by weibo. Google translates it to “my child is coming”. But in drama definitely used not as an endearment but a teasing reminder of their age difference.
How is it being received in the Mainland? Anybody know the douban score? Please post.
Opened at 7.1 last Friday with 18k ratings. Went up to 7.2 after a few hours but went back to 7.1. It is steady at 7.0 for the last few days. Hopefully open-ending won’t pull the score down
Same! I don’t want it to end! 😭 I want another season. Where has Jerry Yan been all my life? I tried to watch…
I’m glad you found Jerry. In weibo, they phrased the words “missed Dao Ming Si but was caught by Xiao Han”
As his fangirl, its hard to give unbiased recommendations although if have time, do check out “Call Me By Fire” variety show. He had two performances in it that convinced the producers only he can be Xiao Han.
How much older is he supposed to be in the drama cause no one even bats an eye at the 20 year age difference.…
I think maybe no one was making an issue of the age gap on her side because she’s supposed to be an adult? Mr Han said something to her in episode 13 that her choices are her own. No one had the right to interfere.
Meanwhile on XH side, he was unwillingly to pursue his attraction and was the one needed to be assured from his friends that “it was ok”.
Why didn’t Xiao Han go to America with He Ran for treatment? That’s what I didn’t understand. He had said…
This is why I think she never left for treatment. She told him herself she doesn’t want to leave him but he wants her to go so she wasn’t talking about possible death. Then to placate him, she started talking about she will return: talked about fish, etc.
As I understood it, she died on that snowy mountain that day.
Offscreen it seems HR swapped the original painting with the replica in XH home. Even before they were together, she decided to bequeath him the priceless painting of her father to him. In episode 4 after reading the line from Les Miserables, you see her open her closet and we see her with the original painting. Next scene, she goes to his home bringing a large frame saying it was for the portrait she drew of him last time. So sometime while she was always in his home, she managed to swap the replica with the original.
While waiting for Jerry Yan to give his own insight of the ending, here is mine(will stand until he gives his canon answer😂)
HR always pursues life the way she wants. After their wedding, she tells him she didn’t want to gofor treatment(?). He obviously does not agree but we know she follows her own rules. So anyway, she placates him by saying he needs to wait for her to come back. Talks about the fish, etc but later on she dies while lying on the snow. XH says he wants to “sleep”/die with her but doesn’t commit s*****e coz he is brave unlike HR dad.
So one year pass, we see mom trying to move on. The sadness in her eyes obviously points that her daughter is gone. Later XH cries when he sees the epiphyllum bloom because he understood it as they will be together again. I guess he thinks it may be his time soon? Maybe that very same day? Or even sometime far in the future? The point is that post-credit is a fantasy of what would come to be eventually.
Other proof that says it is a fantasy/afterlife: she is wearing same dress she first came to him in that garden. Plus the garden looked too ethereal. Petals raining down/not blown by the wind.
Its between 1st to 4th spot depending on which ranking list you follow. It also has 20k reviews on douban already so I think it is pretty popular as much considering the genre and the controversial plotline
I think we're going to have a sweet-bitter ending. Mostly sweet tho. They both will finally be together with approval…
I hope XH doesn’t pull a Romeo. That is very cruel. His mother already lost one son.
I think we will get the snow scene (ending of Love Again MV) and then time jump to a far future where they are reunited in the afterlife. (Ending of My You MV)
Can insert a bit of the epilogue in the novel, XH niece(nephew in book) is now a famous painter who will talk about the painting of a man his wife made when “she fell in love with him that summer”
It’s his gentle and pure smile that makes him look so much younger than his age. Charming dimple too💖
Thank you. When people start harping on his age; some even going so far as viciously calling him names, us Jerry Yan fans try to find our peace by the fact no one else could have played this role. Jerry Yan is Xiao Han
like in the novel, she died without him by her side. I hated they couldn’t even say goodbye properly
It was. Was so upset to read that part. But maybe that type of regrettable separation was the reason why we could believe the imagery in the epilogue. For me it was hauntingly beautifully sad. A man who could never love again and the painting of him his wife left the world.
my interpretation is that Mr. Han realized what was happening - that someone had taken the painting from the shop…
The passage on Les Miserables about true love is written in French in the original work.
Start of ep4, remember XH is mad at her for lying about her age but instead of being discouraged she found will by the passage in Les Miserables. she found it as “fate” probably that he who doesn’t really know art just happened to have copy of her Father’s work. So as a sign of her determined affection plus knowing she might not live long, she secretly gifts/ wants to bequeath him with the original where he probably would never know the difference/ value of the real one

My theory: HR swapped the copy with the original. In ep4 after reading Les Miserables, she went to her closet and we see the original painting in her possession. After this scene, she goes to XH place with a big frame claiming its for the portrait she drew of him last time
Please recommend me some good drama of Jerry yan. I think I’m fallin for him 🤧
If you don’t mind serious drama, please watch The Hospital. Very different from all of Jerry’s work coz not so much on romance. More on political / medial drama.

She was admitted for chemotherapy sessions in the hospital. She was stable enough when his mom suddenly got injured. He didn’t want to leave her but she urged him to take care of his mom first. She promised him she won’t go anywhere and that she’ll wait for him… 🥹
