Rather than being excited about Netflix's adaptation, I am excited about the Chinese adaptation. TBH Netflix shouldn't…
strongly agree.
unless…UNLESS, due to current censorship, netflix is able to portray things more true to the novel than a chinese production.
however, it seems likely netflix would also get things wrong (inadvertently) even if it were able to portray some of the cultural revolution material more true to the novel’s intention.
Is this coming out soon?!? I'm looking forward to this drama so much, the novel I really enjoyed reading! :D
it’s not impossible? Blue Whisper wrapped in June of ‘21 and is airing now. but also it’s airing only half of the series. i think CLJ is probably not splitting itself in half in such an odd way. and thus it’s probably longer than 22 episodes and therefore they probably are still working in post-production. idk when to expect it but i’d be surprised if it were within the next 2 months i guess.
inre certain behaviors… hello, we’re all english speakers here. certain behavior has taken hold in china, on weibo and their internet. fan behavior is beyond toxic.
although of course english speaking & american fans can also be terrible, we do not have the same toxic fan culture as china or even korea. YET.
it is up to us to decide…not to be like that. all we have to do is decide we’re not going to turn ourselves inside out fighting in these stupid ways. that culture is not here yet. if you see someone trying to bring it over here, ICE THEM OUT. ignore them. do not engage. stop being their friend! don’t talk to them for 3 months. see if they can learn to be better.
i don’t ever want to be like the chinese internet.
When fan subs are up, please let us know… it’s very sad to be paying so much to subscribe to all these platforms and they basically just ignore us while letting us pay. They all still get my money, so I don’t feel too bad watching fan subs too.
It’s tempting to complain about how it’s difficult to access this show w/ English subtitles. On the other hand, MANY shows are basically available for free w/ good quality English subtitles on YouTube. It’s not worth it to the big Chinese platforms to get content to us, but it also isn’t worth it for them to keep us from accessing content, I guess.
I loved this show so much. While it was airing, a bunch of times I re-watched episodes 2 or even 3 times before the next episode dropped. I wish more dramas could be this high quality.
