ep 5 was cute but it was basically 90% montage 10% dialogue also the camera shots were so weird, I know it's not…
Actualy Light On Me was the last "great" Korean BL series. There were many good ones before it, but now they're just producing feature films and cutting it into pieces to sell it first as a tv series and then as a movie so they'll profit more from it. Last year we also had To My Star and You Make Me Dance, two wonderful productions.
Korea has acquired this peculiar tradition of producing a movie then cut it into pieces to sell it twice: first as a series and then as a feature film. And with this series I'm having the exactly same feeling I had when I watched the series version of Nobleman Ryu's Wedding. Maybe the movie version will fill in the gaps and give this story more depth, but the series version isn't really working for me.
Of course everyone is best represented by members of their own community!Mame isn't representative of female authors…
But I'm not talking about female authors in general, I'm talking specifically about this genre/demographic group (BL or Yaoi, as you please) and its specific industry.
Of course everyone is best represented by members of their own community!Mame isn't representative of female authors…
Mame is one of the biggest names in this industry, so, yes, she's a representative of the cis female writers.
What I'm trying to point out here though is that the big producing companies insist on producing her type of stories and that's why we keep getting the same old tropes and problematic, stereotyped characters. However, when they step out and give the opportunity to people from our own community, they end up delivering a much better story and final product.
I just read somewhere that Ohm was asked if the series was going to have a happy ending and he said that there were going to be different kind of endings AND NOW I'M SOBBING
I’m in awe of Nanon. You C A N N O T look anywhere else when he’s on screen
And you know what's the strangest part of it? Nanon reminds me SO MUCH of my first love - even the little nuances and mannerism. I know Ohm is hot af, but I just can't take my eyes off of Nanon. I guess I still didn't get over that first love...
Just one more comment: this series is an example of what we get when we have LGBTQI+ people writing and producing the show. If you don't believe me, just put Aof's and Mame's stories and characters side by side.
If they really manage to wrapper up this series without adding any unnecessary tension between Pat and Pran and keep up with the maturity they've shown not just with the writing but with the directing, this series is going to be a total breakthrough in the history of Thai BL series. And, hopefully, this will pave the way for many other stories like this one to be produced.
The trailer for the next episode makes it looks very lighthearted and romantic, but it's the penultimate episode after all, so I can't help but felling afraid of what is going to happen next. However, this series has broken almost every pattern from previous GMMTV BL series, so are we finally going to have a proper ending without all that fighting, suffering and unnecessary tension we're used to?
I agree! Especially when I was a teen I thought so many things were “love” that I romanized cuz I was young…
Exactly! And as we grow up we start learning that some things that we thought were healthy demonstrations of love and affection when we were younger were just not okays and we would do everything differently if we had the chance.
There are tons of BL series out there that we should be problematizing right now, but sure this one shouldn't be one of them.
Best place to find a lot of hypocritical people is here on the MDL comments sections.
People here act like they have never fallen in love with someone like Kiyoi or have never treated someone like Hira in that same way. You all have probably been into one of these sides at some pont in your life – or you were someone like Hira
I don't know about your high school years, but except for the dreamy effects, mine was just like that: we had the bullies, the outgoing kind and the shy ones who were bullied (me included) and the girls always have fallen for the bullies or the outgoing people, never the shy ones. Unfortunately that's reality, people.
They seriously thought we would be rooting for such a toxic and problematic relationship? Beth should have left Cindy eons ago. I take back all I said at the beginning. This is far from being a healthy relationship and this series is a complete mess.
After watching the short movie, I have to strongly disagree with the assessment that this isn't a BL when it actually…
It still doesn't make it a BL. It's a love story and that's it. Xiao Wei didn't know anything about love and humans emotions so he tried to understand it no matter what, but Wang Sheng didn't demonstrate any kind of feelings towards Xiao Wei. On the contrary, Wang Sheng continued loving Pei Rong even after he's exchanged his heart with Xiao Wei and died.
I truly believe Xiao Wei didn't understand love, so he thought that if he could take Wang Sheng's heart he would…
But Wang Sheng still loved Pei Rong even after he's exchanged his heart with Xiao Wei. He have never shown any other feelings towards Xiao Wei. I can't see it as a BL movie. I just see it as a love story.
I soooo agree with u about Leo n Fiat relationship.. Most of the people are just stuck on that one conversation…
There's a very slightly difference between portraying reality, showing that some actions have real consequences, and romanticizing and fetishizing toxicity, psychological torture and emotional abuse.
I really enjoyed the first episode and I'm honestly rooting for a throuple here (and that's a first for me), but thank God this series has only 6 episodes.
They're not managing to explore everything possible in the story and sometimes it just gets tiresome to watch.
