movie aim to represent the life of a trans person living in oppression and fears and shows how hard it is to break free from foundational patterns and practice self-love.
movie left me with mixed feelings. it has interesting action sequences but was not needed to such an extent. it also ends on a sad note. i was dissapointed that ji wook prioritized jang mi's protection above her transition. i really wanted to see her moving ahead towards her soul's purpose, but looks more realistic this way because things don't come quickly in real life. goals take time to achieve and come with a variety of struggles and challenges, especially the transition.
Seems like sakie is the one who killed him n misumi brought him out but it cud be possible that Sakie alone is…
i can't really tell what exactly their relationship was, but i believe sakie was somehow involved in the crime.so maybe she was his accomplice.i felt they were hiding something the whole time, and you're right the canary was a metaphor for her.he said that he chose to release it and set it free,he was probably talking about her.
this is why i love japanese cinema.their stories don't roll around blood and guts only but they provide us with plenty of food for thought.cold fish conveys deep messages about raw human nature and how we are all,at our core, animals fighting for survival, craving control and power.we might eventually be able to be socialized so that we seem like civilized beings beyond the fray of the wild, but it's always right there, just under the surface, waiting to emerge.those who repress these insticts end up having the most violent outbursts even from those who provoke them.
The 1st plot twist was so secretly embedded into the story and unexpected that when it appeared I literally gasped…
i see what you mean and actually that's what really bothered me. after two hours of suspenseful builtup,my expectation of a fullfilling ending it did not arrive
