One of the finest remade dramas. Even if you have watched Korean Version, this one is certainly worth a watch. The cast is superb and the episodes are adjusted to accommodate just what is needed to keep us engaging all the while.
Yes, many concubines. Almost all of them get miserable endings. This drama's main plot is the fierce schemes and fights between the concubines and wife in harem.
When you watch first half of the drama, you would start to believe another all time great drama. However then the later half turned into a common tale. I think the most of negative reviews are from people who raised their hopes high and fell down.
It's been a few years since I first watched this. Until now no drama could even come close to this one in this specific genre. Despite having that weird start ( due to the younger version of ML I guess ? ), the drama manage to completely impress and keep us spellbound in it.

I know right. To add further, SML sends ML away only for his growth and success. Similarly ML invests his life in Artificial Intelligence and Auto pilot cars only to realize the dream of FL. There were many minor details expressing how they both lived for each other despite the confusions . All said, I believe writer should have reduced weightage of SML. It would have made this drama a benchmark success.

After watching the first few episodes, I had a gut feeling that this wouldn't fulfill our craving for a romantic drama, so I decided to skip it. I even banned the word QOT from all my social media accounts! Now, during the finale week, I see the story still being dragged out. It's disappointing, and I feel sorry for the fans and viewers 🤣🤣
The drama was absolutely fantastic until halfway through. However, some viewers found it confusing when the writer continued to involve the second male lead (SML) instead of leaving him behind.
Park Hye Ryun, the writer, has a tendency to portray both the male and second male leads as good characters. Previous dramas like "While You Were Sleeping" and "I Hear Your Voice" had strong SMLs. Even in "Pinocchio," the SML was supportive of the female lead.
However, in "Start-up," the writer missed the mark. While in earlier dramas, the SML was given slightly less weight than the male lead (ML), here they were given equal weight, which caused some confusion and negative ratings from certain viewers.
Personally, I've rewatched it many times and love it. I believe the SML missed his chance because he fell in love a little too late. Love isn't something you can reason with or emotionally manipulate someone into, like saying "I am your first love" kind of stories. Love is unpredictable, and it had already happened between the ML and FL. When the SML realized his feelings, the ship had already sailed, and that's just how life goes.

Yeah, it does loses steam since then. Had superb potential, could have completed as 10 to 12 ep memorable drama. What is this obsession with 16 episodes when there is not enough content.
On the 4th episode. Couldn't skip even a single minute and it completely got me addicted. But the reviews seems to be different. Does it get boring hereafter ? Roller coaster ride so far <3
