I, not so sure we get that reveal because it is one that will affect EVERYONE, not just KS and JD. We don’t…
I just looked at the today's preview again, after wondering whether all the secrets would come out in the confrontation at chairman's house, and I didn't see any indication that Monday is going to move the plot forward much. We have DingDong's baby, JH and YJ, the bone marrow transplant, MR and KS. So, yes, maybe a very unsatisfying time jump.
A triple wedding after a time jump, and SJ by the swimming pool in LA drinking Pina Coladas with her healthy daughter?
I, not so sure we get that reveal because it is one that will affect EVERYONE, not just KS and JD. We don’t…
I agree it can't get too complicated at this point, or the last episode will be after a time jump and the whole episode will just be characters recounting what happened during the time jump.
I hated today’s episode. My irritation is, once again, KS. Like Loelha said - walking into the house after getting…
Yes, but it's all double edge swords right now. JD goes from being motherless, to the daughter of an adulteress who abandoned her and had a child with another man. KS becomes.a loser who can't control his woman and was fooled into raising another man's child.. It's in everybody's interest to keep this hidden right now. It doesn't benefit KS and his family or MR and her family and that's what SJ can count on. Everyone just wants her to be quiet. Eventually she's going to make enough of the secrets public, where she loses this protection. Then everyone is going to go for her. It won't have to be KS.

I suppose being on the lowest rung of the social totem pole, in a highly hierarchical society, would be a little like being the victim of abuse. It's just hard for me to see everyone beating up KS for being too nice, when over on the TRHC discussion, everyone is feeling sorry for that absolute piece of scum JH because he doesn't have a family and he's going to lose his baby. KS is in a horrible bind right now and he's not handling it well, but he's doing the important step, which is filing for divorce and custody. Once he has JD custody he can be much more assertive. Just remember he has zero social capital, the only one with less social power is MR's father. SJ has money, an American passport, the legal position of wife, and is the biological mother and most importantly the super power of shamelessness.
I was just thinking about how much I've come to appreciate how Yoon Da Young has played MR, even all the interminable "Oppa"s, when I thought has MR ever called KS "Oppa"?

You all know that the moment, KS stands up to SJ and tries to separate her from JD, the first words out of SJ's mouth will be JD's my biological daughter, you, KS, are nothing to her. I'll do what I want with my daughter. I think when that truth comes out he'll prove more assertive. We'll see how the writers treat that reveal, but I don't think they have much time for that. I'm starting to go for the second donor theory and SJ leaves as if nothing happened. And as for protecting MR, I'm sure MR would also want KS to protect JD over protecting her.

I don't know your cultural background, so I don't know what you expectations are with regards to filial piety and the respect of elders. I have a hard time, personally, with the amount deference shown to people older or higher on the social ladder in K-J-CDramas, but the deference is so great in Korean culture, that the co-pilot of a commercial jet liner, has let the plane crash rather than tell his the pilot he is wrong. So I think KS is pretty much the perfect example of Korean manhood and you can't have much character development if you're perfect already. What I'm more worried about at this point in the drama, is there's not much time left to give SJ any meaningful comeuppance. What I'd love to see is SJ go to prison for bigamy and lose custody of both of her daughters in a divorce proceeding. I can really see MR happily marching down the streets of downtown Seoul with her two beautiful daughters in tow.

Given the cultural context, if KS was the biological father, I think he'd be acting very differently. Also when KS comes into SJ's apartment, we may have a continuity issue with the production, I'm not sure we are supposed to think he knows the passcode, but then YJ also knows the passcode, so maybe the whole family does. And if that's correct and he used it, he's actually showing less respect to SJ, he's going to retrieve his daughter, and treating her with less deference by not ringing the doorbell. I don't think he is siding with SJ in that instance. He actually pulled SJ off of his daughter and took her immediately home.
The blocking of the ending scene in the Hwang house was strange. At first it looks, like KS is separating SJ and MR, but then he does settle in an odd position. But we don't know how this scene is going to end yet. We'll see if he mans up at the beginning of Monday's episode. At any rate, MR IS manning up. She wasn't going to let JD go with her mother in the park, unless JD was doing it willingly. KS may not be living up to our expectations, but MR is and she took KS and JD as a package deal, and she's not backing down, regardless of what her mother say in the preview.
I thought today's episode was fine, it's just the previews that are getting people upset. SJ is delusional and going into free fall, of course she's going to do as much damage as she can on the way down. I wonder whether we will need a time skip next week, or SJ will just leave quietly with a whimper as if she never showed up. It will be a little hard to finish if JD is the donor. I wonder whether a miraculous second donor match will be the writer's way out?
betting she will do it and end up onconscious for 1 ep.
I know in many Asian cultures, the sins of the parents are attributed to the children. The classic of this is the father telling the mother: "You can't turn me in to the police, because it will make you child's father a murderer." So I think, part of what enables JS,, is all the family members don't want her exposed because it reflects badly on the family and JD. Personally, I find this very frustrating, but the only real sins of the writers at this point is pacing, as many have mentioned. They got MR and JH together in a very easy and understandable way: she has a childhood crush, he wants to breakup his father's remarriage. Then they just can't pivot to how they break them up and make MR transfer her affections to KS, who on paper is a completely inappropriate love interest. How many episode pass between KS carrying MR, after she fainted in the storage room? That was first foreshadowing of them as a couple. It was sweet, it worked, what woman in her right mind would want to pass from the arms of KS to JH? Yet, episode after episode passed with nothing more. Is there maybe 80 episodes between this and KS and MR actually getting together. Hence 80 episodes of nothing happening, maybe 20 episodes for the 1st and 2nd leads to get together with the correct partner, and only 20 episodes for wife's returns, which just isn't enough to deal with what is such a large family scandal. There is just no time for the new family to integrate and for SJ to get her just deserts.
betting she will do it and end up onconscious for 1 ep.
I still don't know what reveal (dirty secret) there will be to drive the witch away. Do you think they'll have her just happily leave because she got her bone marrow? Also, without the subs it's hard to see how disillusioned/alienated JD is with her mother now.
I thought the whole point of makjang was taking delight in revenge, but both AOME and TRHC seems much more about seeing nice people suffer. Yes, you have to have the suffering to enjoy the revenge, but AOME and TRHC seems to have completely missed the boat on the seeing the villains punished.
And we know SJ adamantly denied that to KS. But we all know it’s true.
I recall her saying she returned to Korea to find a donor and maybe that does make some sense scientifically, maybe there is a higher likelihood of finding a match among the Korean population than in the general U.S. population. Then only when she couldn't find a donor did she contact JanDi and the family.
Well, FINALLY! Allow me to be a bit greedy, but we got the scene I'd been calling for in the last month: HD must…
When SD walked in, I thought, wouldn't it be funny if he was the donor match, but then they all hid what was going on from him.
As for Jenny, She, JS, KS, and JD are all in legal no man's land. By Korean or KDrama law, Jenny might be KS's legal daughter. I don't think any of the legal mess will be addressed in the drama, other than the divorce. But I will say this, with KS and JS's history, the new family might be KS, MR and JS's two daughters. Then JS goes off to find another baby daddy in the future.
When Jenny mentioned that she liked KS and KS reminded her of her father, I thought: So even she knows JS isn't the nice parent.
I went through it early - and I didn’t feel pregnant at all, but it could be that - but you know these writers…
I think I read somewhere that almost 50% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Woman don't think it's so high because some miscarriages seem like a late period. At any rate, the percentage is pretty high. Of course, the later it is the more emotionally impactful.
It wasn't a bad episode today. It moved the ball. I know a lot you have been bashing KS, but there are enough…
My question was whether someone trying to register a marriage gets cross-referenced against already registered marriages. In the U.S. you just can't do that. The marriage license is on the city or county level. If the registration is done at the top level government (the Federal government in the U.S.), everybody has an ID at the top level (like the social security number in the U.S.), and the system is computerized, a previous marriage could be cross-referenced. I wondered if that was the case in South Korea.

There's a JDrama that handles geriatric pregnancy. It's really tough on the older body. The JDrama had a nice plot. The woman feels she's gone through menopause, her husband dies, and then she finds out she's pregnant.

Today's episode was fun.
