It has occurred to me that if KS cannot stand up to his former MIL and move out, he at least needs to quit sitting…
It's too late in the plot for him to move out and make any difference. Next week SJ's second family is going to be exposed. I think that will lead to the revelation that JanDi is not KS's child. I can't imagine a satisfying ending at this point. KS and MR will limp through it, but it's going to be external factors which determine the outcome. I'm guessing we have a big tear jerker scene with SJ begging KS to save her child and allow JanDi to be the donor. I don't think the writers are going to make any of the bad characters suffer at all for the consequences of their actions. JH is already forgiven and SJ will be forgiven because she's doing it all for her son.

I know I initially made the second child a boy without much conscious thought, but I know it's got to be true. JanDi the girl child is nothing, but the second child is a son. MaHD is going to be ecstatic about having a grandson when she finds out. Her motivation for KS and SJ getting back together will no longer be because of JD, but because of the bastard grandson.

Also, I take the one scene in the preview as JD discovering her half-brother when looking for her mother in the hospital.

Looks like many of you were right, the person needing the donor is SJ's child. At least, that's how I took the teddy bear scene without subs. Still can't believe that SJ has the maternal instincts for this plot line.

So is this our new story:

Our hero JH repents of his womanizing and abusive past. With the help of YJ he realizes how pure his love for MR was. JH and MR get back together and JH takes over as president of the porridge factory. Meanwhile JD and KS meet SJ's son, both realize how important family is and what a good person SJ has become. JD donates her blood cells for her half-brother, who is cured.. They all return to the U.S. to enjoy the fortune SJ has earned as a real estate broker and single mother in the U.S.

She sure wasn't celibate for the 10 years she was away. I think that was pretty clear the way she reacted to SD. So that was a tell by the writers, but I always wonder why characters like SJ who lie so effortlessly, have so much problems lying in other circumstances.

We really don't know much about the back story of KS and SJ. Did JD's father really die. What was SJ's relationship with the father like? At what point did SJ and KS's marriage ever become more than a marriage of convenience? Did it ever?

I actually think KS might be a virgin. If they married when SJ was pregnant and not in love with KS, you would imagine that there was no sex until sometime after she delivered JD. Does anyone think 3 years of living in MaHD's house would be conducive to a romantic relationship developing, especially with what we know of SJ now?

I don't know how it works in Korea, but is there a concept of annulment vs. divorce? The whole point of annulment in American dramas is that there was no marriage in fact. We'll just forget it ever happened. Could that be one way the writer's are thinking of making the marriage of KS and MR acceptable. I would think in Korea there would be a strong prejudice against MR, a young, virtuous woman of good family marrying a divorced man with a 15 years daughter.

Big Dong dreamed of a huge 100 yr old or more ginseng? Is that to let him know that he will soon have the grandkids…
I was wondering whether it was an inception dream for Aunty Ding Dong as well.

I think you have it completely right and the biggest betrayal of this drama has been that it started as such a fresh critique of patriarchal norms. YD was confident, assertive, successful in her career, the bread winner in her family. When confronted with JH's infidelity, she didn't sob and beg him, her reaction was anger and self-confident rejection. When she discovers she's pregnant, she doesn't beg him to come back to her, but decides to raise the child on her own.

Yet as soon as she's in a fake marriage and in the role of dutiful daughter-in-law, she loses all her self-confidence, is plagued with guilt that she's pretending the child is another man's for societal acceptance, is slut-shamed for being promiscuous and having a child out of wedlock. Then it just goes down hill from there into patriarchal hell. The mother-in-law kicks her out of the house, the biological father sues for custody of the child, and acts like he owns her and the child because he is the father, her own family tries to force her to be with the biological father, and when she won't disowns her. I really don't understand why they bothered with the first 10 episodes, the the drama was going to devolve into this mess.

I don’t think she should. KS has made it clear who he loves and who he has chosen. They need to stand United.…
If KS moves out now he's choosing MR over JanDi and he won't do it. If he moved out now JanDi would remain with MaHD or go to her mother. The last option might make things interesting. I'm really curious what SJ would do if KS left and she ends up with JanDi. Somehow I don't think her plans include being a single mother to JanDi.

As an after thought: MR has been the only grown up in the room for this entire drama.

I think he didn’t accept the job because of his situation - he thinks he is still married and probably doesn’t…
I actually think KS would have less issues if it's her child instead of her, but if it's for her child then we have to believe that the same woman who has no maternal feelings for JanDi is the same one desperately trying to save her other child. This just seems too selfless for her. I'm sure the answer we finally get for her behavior from the writer's will not completely make sense.

For whatever reason teenage girls very often have very unattractive personalities in KDramas. I find it very hard to sympathize with JanDi's character as written, but it's different for MR's character. Her relationship with JanDi is as important as with KS. She's taken them as a package deal. She might back away from her relationship with KS because of SJ, but I don't think she will abandon JanDi. KS still backs down from confrontations, but he's been very resolute about which path he is on right now. MR might deserve better from him. But from the way the characters have been written, I think it's going to be MR who really stands up to SJ and it won't be to hold onto KS, it will be to save JanDi. I think it will either be that or MR is the one who JanDi goes to when she finds out that KS isn't her biological father.

I've been wondering about this angle too. SJ keeps claiming she's married to him, but all the things she might need she gets by just being legally married to him. So she is acting as if she believes the marriage is not valid and needs to get back together with him. In other KDrama's the donor had to be a family member, so does SJ need KS to re-marry her so JD is legally a family member? The other angle, I wondered about. Is SJ no longer a Korean citizen and only in Korea on her U.S. passport with a tourist visa? Does she need KS to legally remain in Korea as his wife?

The YT clips this morning seem to be all about SJ. I think I'll put off watching this one until later this afternoon,…
I was thinking about YJ and her position in the family. Obviously the eldest JJ is the straight arrow and done everything right, but she's not the favorite. SJ is the favorite and her future was the brightest, but she comes home pregnant and unwed. So KS is the villain who ruined her future. As for YJ, MaHD is going to watch over her like a hawk, because she's not going to let her repeat the same mistake of getting caught up with a loser like KS and unwed, uneducated, and pregnant.

I also don't get her motivation for getting back together with KS. If her return to Korea is for family member as a source of a donor, that's JD, HD, YJ or the sister in Canada. She doesn't need KS. So maybe there are surprises to come.

Just occurred to me that James Kim (mystery benefactor) being JD's biological father would make SJ absolute scum.
On Apple of My Eye Aug 29, 2023
I'm not going to bash KS. He's being up-front and honest with MR and they are agreeing on their course of action. Of course, we'll see some drama because they are keeping everything from MR's family. One of the family members will find out about SJ from another source first and we'll have a repeat of their keeping their dating secret.

The plot looks like it's getting predictable enough now, where I'm wondering whether it's worth watching the rest as it airs. We'll all know KS and MR will be happily married in the end with JD accepting MR as her mother. And now the dreck they will have to go through seems just the usual manufactured plot devices.

The only thing which I can see throwing us some surprises is the actual identify of JD's biological father. Could it be anyone who would upend the entire plot?

I will agree that the whole JH arc has been so pathetic. He's gotten so much screen time. If you think about it the JH of TRHC has also been hogging screen time. This type of character must resonate with the domestic audience. I think between the two characters, they both had a total of 4 lines which they just repeat episode after episode. Both are are handsome in the same way too: dark and pasty. I bet neither has been exposed to sunlight since birth.
