20 minutes is enough to see the ingredients of a drama. The quality of dialogues, cinematography, pacing. Sticking around and waiting means there's never enough time to watch the really great dramas (ones that are award worthy). Strongly agree about Silent Tides. Republican era in the context of Overdo means nothing but clothing style. I'd recommend The Guardians, War of Faith, Lost Identity, and Fearless Blood for absolutely great Republican era dramas.

I've watched PoJ twice and loved also The Story of Kunning Palace. ZL can act, but Overdo is just so bad and I blame the director and script. Overdo is unintentionally comic over the top makjang. With torturous overdone background music on top.

after 10 mins of ep 2, I couldn't continue with this. What you say is most likely accurate. The writer wrote Jang Ok Jung, that was old skool and slow (from today's perspective, but unfortunately creativity doesn't grow in trees). I sat through it bc of Yoo Ah In.

chaebols, politicians & corruption - seems that k-dramaworld can't do without these, regardless of genre. It's so old to me. However, I like Yang Se Jong, always. I wish Park Eun Bin's face didn't have so much filters (or whatever it is that makes her look almost faceless).

Most memorable scenes: When Han Dong begged on his knees, breaking down in tears, for the car video containing the evidence of assault. Mei Yue's speech for the reporters. A Mei's and Mei Yue's friendship. The hospital scene with Sister Ling and how A Mei and Mei Yue forgave all her crappy deeds in the end.

The ending was very satisfactory. Would wholeheartedly recommend this one. Emotional and touching drama, although it's very dark. The main suspense element is whether the main couple's relationship will hold or not, when their immensely difficult pasts slowly get revealed. Bad things happening to basically good people kind of trope. 8.5/10
