Totally agree! Enjoyed reading this! I skipped 90 % of the cooking competition episodes. After several attempts I just can't seem to continue watching this after ep 9. Now I know I don't have to even bother trying. Many more better dramas out there that deserve the investment of time. I don't understand why this one got to be so popular. And with no one discussing the questionable choice of using real historical figures and taming down real atrocities. All the good moments occurred in the first 2 episodes.
In terms of adventure dramas, I'd say this is sheer perfection. I guess I'm lucky in that I haven't read the book or seen the earlier drama versions of it. But I'm already hoping for Season 2. It's difficult that it's only 1 ep a day bc we're always cut off at the most exciting point. But on the other hand this lasts longer this way :)
As for earlier similar dramas, I've seen Parallel Worlds which I loved. I liked The Seven Relics of Ill Omen, but that one had some not-so-good filler storylines.
This is a high quality drama. Suspenseful and entertaining with a touch of humour. Such clever writing. The actors are amazing but especially Zhang Yi Shan. Gotta love him in this. Elvis is the perfect Bond character (intelligence agent). Highly recommended!
This type of drama is really for their domestic audience who will more or less know the backdrop of each timeline…
Actually, I don't know about other countries except the USA. Copilot: "The percentage of released prisoners who return to prison after committing another crime — known as the recidivism rate — is alarmingly high in many countries, especially over longer time spans. Here's what the data shows: 📊 Recidivism in the United States - Within 5 years of release: About 70% of state prisoners are re-arrested, and 49% return to prison. - Within 10 years: Roughly 82% are re-arrested, and 62% end up back in prison. In the sense that laws are mandatory regardless, prisons are were much needed.

I know that it's more attractive for the domestic audience. I am grateful for the english subs. But in the same way as the 2nd arc was criticizing (albeit somewhat lovingly) political zealots, in terms of the historical background, the 3rd arc wanted to show that when the markets opened up, people could go overboard with chasing money and success. I saw it as (mild) criticism materialism and definitely strict criticism of corruption and bribery. As people don't change fundamentally, it was not right in my view for the 3rd couple to end up together.
I was going to drop the rating bc of my dissatisfaction with the 3rd story arc. For a while it looked like their values were too different and that they would not end up together. Now *that* would have been brilliant. Since the first 2 stories showed people who ended up together exactly bc of their shared values and ideals. I was disappointed when they did end up together, and felt that the message of the 3rd story got lost. (FL and ML's friend Yan Jun as businesspeople were driven and purely about money and not always within the law in their dealings).
I didn't drop the rating after all, bc the way history was portrayed through the lives of these 3 women was finely crafted. Especially the 2nd story with the zealous political activists was enjoyable. I think this requires quite a lot of historical background knowledge to be fully appreciated. 8/10
Loved the stylishness and the flow. To me this was pretty flawless.
Although my concentration waned a bit though as the last episodes were released only 1 per day. Wish I had had access to episodes 14-16 in one day but that was for iQYI premium subscribers only.
Giving humans a gene therapy product without before the ending of rigorous animal testing sounded strangely familiar (lol)
It was a surprise to me that the supervisor who did this wasn't the Squid. But so we had 2 antagonists who both were overly ambitious with coming up with a sellable product. Who gets to sell it was the main reason for the supervisor to fight. The antagonist also wanted the data in order to be able to save his gf. In the end their fight was about the data.
I hope for a S2 that goes deeper into the moral dilemmas with gene therapy. Now it was more or less accepted that gene therapy could provide a cure for all cancers (but I know that in reality this has been promised and tried for 30+ years without anything even remotely successful coming out of it). But anyways, the science part in the science fiction wasn't missing. Very satisfied with the drama and how it touched upon the issues with genetic research - although as said, it could have gone even deeper into that. Hoping for Season 2.
This is so good and entertaining. Adventure dramas are rare treats these days. Scary and funny just as it should…
Cao Lei is deservedly in high demand. He was unforgettable in The Lost National Treasure (I highly recommend it, most people missed out on it, super interesting and engaging)
I'm enjoying this a lot. This is sci fi that doesn't miss the science part (gene therapy).Ep 9: I think CEO Mo's…
in ep 9, Ding Qi has narrowed down the suspects into Squid and 2 people who are his helpers. I think it's pretty clear Squid has to come from the genetic science research world, hence is the missing former supervisor.

Ep 9: I think CEO Mo's supervisor was justifiably angry at him. Not jealousy. Did he submit a paper without the professor's name in it? And without his approval?
I hope we'll really get deeper in future episodes into what CEO Mo was pursuing that made the supervisor angry. And I think we're heading into that direction.
