As someone who always looks at the tags when choosing what to watch, I really enjoyed this article series. Looking forward to the last installment!
I didn't realize being an orphan and the idea of adoption were almost taboo/looked down on in South Korea mostly because I see it so often in K-dramas (esp with the Main Leads). They do depict some of the hardships they go through but not to the level the articles you linked to spoke about. I have heard about the Drop Box though in a short documentary I watched on youtube.
I completely agree with your idea of using a Lonely Male Lead tag. I can already think of many dramas where it would be more appropriate.
I tend to avoid dramas that have the negative tags (with Orphan and Poor Male Leads being the exceptions). From past experiences, I know those kinds of characters (either male or female) just annoy me so I just steer clear from them in general. Depending on my mood, I'm most interested in the badass, calm, smart and strong male lead tags.
Also, I think certain tags are sometimes omitted from dramas because they might be considered as spoilers?
I completely agree with you! This is one of the only C-novels I've ever read and its my favourite so you can imagine…
Yea for those who haven't read the novel, they can play it off as a nice bromance I guess. It's just disappointing when you know what it could have been. I have this on my watch list but I'm not too sure if I actually will. On one hand I really want to support the author (I hope they're in some way involved with the drama?) but on the other hand I can't see the characters as anything else other than lovers. Or I hope they do what they did with the Untamed and still have that chemistry but not explicitly show it?
I am currently reading the novel the and honestly Wang Anyu as Gui Fei would have been a very wrong choice Zhu…
I completely agree with you! This is one of the only C-novels I've ever read and its my favourite so you can imagine how I felt when I saw the "censored romance" tag up there (needless to say my heart plummeted in disappointment). The romance and how their characters developed was so beautifully written, I know this would not do it justice. I wish Taiwan had adapted it instead too :(
Ohh what an interesting comparison! I personally can't stand "the Witch" type (maybe it's a good thing I haven't seen any of the dramas you mentioned under that category then lol :)). I absolutely loved the mother in Alice! She almost made me tear up with how much she cherished and believed in her son. Glad you included her in it. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
I loved this, but I am a fan of e-sports dramas (not interested in the real thing, though), they usually have…
That's exactly how I felt about the sci-fi stuff too. It was never explained and was just used as a convenient plot device (but it was hella interesting nonetheless lol). I came for the sci-fi but ended up staying for everything else.
This is one of my favourite dramas of 2020! I started watching it for the parallel universe theme too. Since it was my first foray into E-sports dramas, I went in with no expectations but was very pleasantly surprised. I thought they would spend more time on the actual gaming part but it was more about the characters, their development and interactions which I loved!! The way they showed the gaming parts were very interesting though so I enjoyed that part too even as a noob. Also, the CGI and editing in this was one of the best I have seen in a C-drama! I did find it a bit hard to decipher the subs (since it was machine translated) but it didn't take away from the drama at all! Thanks for the article, this drama definitely deserved one! :)
Great article @orangevine! I didn't know it was by the same writer as Nigeru wa Haji (one of my favourite doramas ever)! And like you said, I'm also really looking forward to seeing a different and rougher sided character from Hoshino Gen. I know I've been saying I'm going to watch this for a while now but your article has pushed me to actually start XD
Thank you so much for reading and I apologize for making you turn on the dark mode *hides* but I'm also very glad…
Haha np it was totally worth it! I loved the way it was written (you definitely had my attention after that little intro) and the colours, layout and pictures/gifs you used worked so well together!
Great article! I turned on dark mode for the first time to read this article and it definitely set the mood. I really liked the premise of this drama and its on my ptw list (waiting for it to finish airing so I can binge it). I was wondering if it was subbed so thanks for mentioning the fansubbers (it's so wonderful when they add the bits of info and trivia)!
Wow I can't get over how pretty this article is! But yea, I'm the same since I really can't do tragic/sad endings and avoid them like the plague. I've already seen a couple of dramas you mentioned here (didn't know they had sad endings when I started them) while most of the rest are in my PTW. I think I'll go back and take some off my list now (like Princess Agents for sure). So thanks so much for this article!
Great article! It was really easy and fun to read (plus it was about cats!) :) I liked how you had recs from all languages too. I was surprised this was your 1st article tho! I've added Neko Zamurai, My Lonely Planet, and My Love Enlighten Me to my PTW and I'm really looking forward to watching them. Thanks!
This show is good. Can't believe it's ending next week! ;_;Anyway, Xu Wei and An Lan didn't get together. An Lan…
Those were my exact thoughts on Wang Kai leaving too. It seemed so random. Whatever happened to prompt that decision of his didn't feel worth it enough for him to leave his team?? Then he came back after a couple episodes and I was like what was the point? I'm glad they're all back together though.
I had already decided this lakorn wasn't for me but I loved this article nonetheless! Very funny and I loved the layout (that must have taken ages!). Thanks for writing it :)
