But he's a very old and wise 23 and she has lived at home and plays w plushies for 35 years. Emotionally they're…
The plot is interesting since the characters aren't one dimensional.
An ambitious host with a learning disability and a girls catholic school teacher yearning to change her life cross paths with eachother in conservative Japan. What could possibly go wrong right?
We get to see many layers from the side characters too. It's not a fluffy love story. There's angst, personal reflection, as well as tender moments. As a side story we also see the dark side of the Host world- how obsession over host life can be dangerous.
As of ep 7, it's hard to guess how it will end but I'm hoping for the best.đ€
Oh one more thing- while the premise might suggest that it'll be a typicalđ„đ„đ„ toxic MC romance jdrama like with Coffee and Vanila (and other similar dramas), this is actually surprisingly more "pure" (not the best phrasing but I can't think of a better phrasing).
wow, i just started this show and I was really liking it but THEN the end of epi one happened and it shocked me.…
The ML's entire life is a "show" - Kauru the Host vs. Taiga the hard working 23-24 year old from a broken family who doesn't have the luxury to do as he wishes but still tries his best. Quite self sacrificing.
The drama is certainly interesting since none of the characters can be labelled as good or bad (not even the FL). Perhaps try 1 or 2 more episodes to see if it's your type?
Looks like your guess from a few episodes came true! Totally agree with you though on how surprisingly the âdragâ…
Thanks! If thereâs only half a chapter left we might get more angst before the classic ârun to get your manâ bit. Does the mangaâs main story arc end with the confession? Kind of similar to Old Fashioned Cup Cakeâs ending?
When I started this, I thought it was gonna be all cutesy and fluffy⊠but now tell me why Iâm getting hit…
Suzumeâs fluffy onesie and bow tricked usđ Canât believe I expected it to be a bit childish at firstđ The angst is interesting thoughâŠweirdly relatable somehow from Suzumeâs POV.
So as suspected they are drawing out the break up over multiple episodes. So more angst in episode 11 with the…
Looks like your guess from a few episodes came true! Totally agree with you though on how surprisingly the âdragâ doesnât feel tedious. Eventhough ep 10 might feel like a filler episode it still is an important episode that could help Suzume and Keishi out in the long run.
The preview sounds daunting though. As the source expert, does the other subordinate actually mean to cause trouble? Or is the scene from the preview a red herring?đ
Ep 10 is the most episode though. It's a philosophical discussion on the loneliness epidemic in Japan.
It really was an interesting episode. You have 2 men approaching their 40s living vastly different lives and yet they are still able to enjoy each otherâs company. I like how Suzume feels so relatable and his fears are quite realistic for someone at his stage of life. It looks like episode 11 will be another emotional rollercoaster but I hope we will get to see their light hearted days soonđ€
I hope Suzume doesn't take him back so easily. Keishi should suffer at least for one more episode so he will learn…
Honestly they both messed up. Keishi shouldnât have said that last bit about Suzume not being his type but Suzume shouldnât have freezed either (understandable why he froze but it wasnât the best move).
Theyâve both suffered long enough - really hope they make up next week đ€
Yeah...the ending was hot garbage.I've always hated open endingsBut more importantly....WHO TF DID HE END UP RAISING…
About Hash- he'll probably find a capable room mate or hire a full time helper. He has time anyway since the Ex isn't moving immediatelyđ
I mean the ex's request was that Hash cannot be left alone which is fair enough given his long hours. The whole point of his blind dating arc was to realize that you can't just blindly get into a relationship just to have kids or in his case, a permanent co-doggo parent
IDK why he couldn't realize it sooner honestly seeing as even the ex mentioned "room mate" at least onceđ
They gave a realistic ending for the MC by leaving their romantic future open.
Some were expecting a more romantic ending given how there were so many hints that they were perfect for eachother/ MDL tag indicated it was a "romance" drama.
They also ended the final scene with the ML saying the line "To me, love is"- cutting him mid sentence to the usual end screen "esquire" and a photo montage of the team and MC's moments together. So some felt it was incomplete.
Personally I liked the ending. It was still romantic / poeticeven if it wasn't in the usual k-drama "and they lived happily ever after đ" format. The drama is a love letter but it covers all kinds of love. For the MC, the drama ends with them both finally at a place where they are able to move from their baggage. Will they date? Only time will tell but what we do know for sure is that they have something beautiful together even now as eachother's confidantes.
Honestly not sure why MDL is showing the âromanceâ tag. Itâs not available on Netflix. While love is a topic…
Ah I see. Wish if they didn't make it one of the main genres though. I've been burned by similar dramas before so the drama exceeded my expectations but I can see why some are annoyedđ
Odd choice honestly seeing as similar dramas that keep romance as a side story don't normally use romance as one of the main tags. By contrast, I find the MDL sub-tag used by "Celebrity" more suitable here (i.e. "slight romance")đ«
Love your take on this and the way you brought it back to âEsquireâ
Haha yes! All these weeks I just assumed they ended each episode with "esquire" because it was a legal drama/ to connect with ep 1. Your epiphany was the missing piece that made the picture perfect.
I don't know the ending...felt ........ incomplete....I think they are gearing up for a season 2,...??? also the…
NGL wish if there were more episodes so they could have covered the last episode in more detail.
Yun did move on from the ex-wife. She even told him he can have Hash as long as he has a room mate or wife without him throwing a tantrum over her demands (TBF her wish is fair enough since Yun cannot leave Hash unattended while he spends long nights at the office all the time).
He just needs time to understand what he truly wants. Who knows? May be seeing how Jin Woo and MJ are able to handle their age gap, he might eventually change his tune? The MC is so in tune with each other already afterall and KHM doesnât look like sheâs disappointed either - sheâs ready to play the long game. And we know that Yun isnât going to get into a relationship just because he wants kids/a new co-doggy parent.
Canât tell from the comments but Iâm getting the vibe this Romance tagged show is not a romance or it at least…
Honestly not sure why MDL is showing the âromanceâ tag. Itâs not available on Netflix.
While love is a topic they cover, itâs not a romcom so this takes a back seat. The pacing is realistic IMO and they do have a strong emotional rapport. But they really arenât at a stage where romance can happen RIGHT NOW. In the future anything could happen but given the fact that the drama didnât use time skips/ itâs been barely a year since she joined the firm and both have been dealing with their own baggage, itâs not realistic for them to have a full on romance during the timescale the drama covered.
That being said, itâs obvious that he trusts her beyond the capacity of a junior and they are able to talk about private topics without feeling awkward.
Finding closure with the mother - think itâs an Asian thing in general honestly. Hell will freeze over before…
My comment about the SFLâs situation isnât really connected to the toxic k-drama mum genre (or the fact that Asian parents tend to be stubborn/ less willing to be accountable for their actions). Itâs a different point,
My response was in response to OPâs point on how there was a contradiction with the fact that the familyâs interest was supposed to be an important thing for the SFL but in the end it looked like it no longer mattered to her. From what I understood, that while the familyâs concerns do matter, her main concern was that she didnât want to sacrifice herself. Jin Wooâs declaration that he would make sure she prioritizes herself and that he will be by her side was comforting given how in her previous marriage her ex along with the in-laws used to abuse her/ how alone she was.
I can see the contradiction that you noticed but here I was merely speculating based on what we know about JWâs family and JW himself. Heâs not weak and isnât easily influenced by his sister (example he only helped his sisterâs friendâs divorce request because he could take advantage of it-previously he was quite vocally rejecting the sisterâs pleas). His family also truly cares about him enough to help him with even trivial things- they just want whatâs best for him. Most importantly, the sister voiced her thoughts by first saying that she knows that her brother doesnât like older women in a very casual setting over a hypothetical question. While I could be wrong, knowing their sibling bond, perhaps the sister might change her mind eventually once she realizes that JWâs hopeless for MJ and pushing them apart will just make things worse for JW? Even if she chooses to follow the typical toxic path and resist their relationship, itâs hard to imagine a scenario where JWâs family would be able to manipulate JW. Their future together will have challenges, but as long as MJ knows that she will not have to sacrifice herself again along with JWâs unwavering support, sheâll be able to face these obstacles more confidently.

The ending is fine on it's own but adding "romance" gives expectations to viewers unfortunately.
(I've been burnt several times so was expecting a way worse ending)

Really poetic of the writer!
