Exactly. I feel for his fans but his character really didn't allow the drama to have that much screentime. In fact some would have called out the show for showing the ML just working/ moping around/ studying all the time (since that's all he did when cherry wasn't around).
They probably deleted the scenes because it just doesn't match the vibe they wanted to portray during his absense.
Also it would have dragged the story since they would have to repeat JQX's pov twice (once tp the audience and one more time when cherry confronts him). It's important to show how detailed he gets with Cherry specially since his uncle's accident cannot be simply glossed over.
It would have been a nice touch if they could have added the unsent texts as an epilogue though. But they made it up by sharing the missing letter.

(It might be an unpopular opinion but by keeping JQX's screentime non existent during his "missing" period, it added more impact since not even the audience knows what's going on with his life so Cherry's feelings hit you even harder since you too feel the same).
The fact that they didn't brush off Cherry's trauma years later also makes it feel more realistic. JQX's parents' redemption arc also was handled quite well given the circumstances. He's still not close with them and is barely able to manage a conversation but you can feel that the distance is finally beginning to heal them.
Their post love arc also wasn't exhausted. I usually lose interest after c- drama couples get together since the plot gets very generic but in this case, it didn't feel like that.
(I haven't read the novel so can't really say much about any inconsistencies)
