Politics aside, I watched this drama for CSB and loved seeing her on a mellow side when I've always known her…
"They harp about these rich political families and racing for president but they don't try to pit WHY they are so great"

The drama actually made it clear for a change how they survived for so long.

Both the Hong family and the Baek family are from old money. The reason why they lasted so long was not out of the goodness of their hearts - they were shrewd and calculating. From the Baeks whose main priority was their reputation to the Hongs whose need to outway the Gains over their losses was a priority.

You essentially need to sell a part of your soul to be at their level.

Controversy aside, is the final ep that bad? No spoilers pls.
Honestly just ignore MDL and watch it with a fresh mind if you have the time.

If you are in it for the romance, you will probably like it since they didn't dare to reunite the couple in the last moment (we got 20 mins of Saju love era). If anything they got more cheeky towards the end.

That being said, I admit it's not the best episode because they tried to fill in plot points from the novel without fleshing them out well enough so it either came of as either disjointed or unnecessary depending on who you ask but not everybody cares about (i chose to assume that the novel's scenes happened off screne which made it more comfortable to me- i personally liked the episode).

Other than that there's abit of a conflict on some of SE's decisions but again you can choose to understand him if you look at it from his pov and remember what kind of person he truly is (and the fact that ep 1-11 happened within 1 month). Besides the drama also supported HJ's side so it's honestly your choice to decide if you like it or not.

As for the 10 second contraversy- IMO it was a poor choice regardless of their reason but honestly it's been blown way out of propotion since most didn't even notice it until a post went viral (if you are interested to understand more on it, there are plenty of discussion panels on the page explaining the situation).

Does anyone know how long Park Do Jae was in jail for attempting to murder Heejoo? Afterall he pushed her off…
There has to be a timeskip between the events in Argan and SE's new life since logically you can't change your identity within weeks- even if you are an asset to the government.

They probably gave PDJ 6 months to 1 year since PDJ was arrested in June and was in jail by December. As far as I recall the christmas deco wasn't there when Heeju got the donationa package from Argan so there should have ideally been at least a few weeks to 1 month till she arranged her trip there too.

The drama had names that sounded similar to Palestine/ isreal which made people angry and they mass downvoted…
Honestly this only blew up because of one overzelous post on X and somehow MDL got dragged into it as well eventually.

I watched the episode as soon as it was released and so did many others. The only thing people were complaining about was how the Argan plot felt off for some (which is fair enough depending on your pov) during the first couple of hours...and then that viral post happened.

It's just another excuse for people to fight over - the fact that most ignore the misinterpretation of the dialogue says it all :)

You are absolutely right, you see that the drama is lowering the rating but you are still here. I don't understand…
True. The issue this time compared to the TVN examples I gave is that the reasons behind the hate on TVN dramas' pages is petty or superficial and not really enough to reach non drama fans.

Whereas the mistake WTPR made was that they made themselves easy prey. The 5 second moment was basically a free-for-all buffet for the vultures who hang around MDL🫠

*He was a negotiator not a rebel (i know the tactical gear made it vague🙊).
In the novel he was part of a negotiation team in Argan right? Because that's how he found out about the Korean sign inteprettor? Kind of like a combat/ negotiator role?

(Idk if he was also part of a tactical team tbh because when i read that chapter i tried to avoid spoilers as much as possible and now that the drama has ended, couldn't really find the motivation to read it in detail).

Exactly. The fact that people question them choosing the drama over one line in the last episode? Like I know most people aren't aware how the industry works, but it has to be common sense that the chance of artists getting all episode scripts in advance is highly unlikely right? 🤦‍♀️

Oh no they will never accept the mistranslation. One genius called me Zionist when i mentioned that the banner clearly said that Izmael militants kidnapped Koreans.- where is the logic in that sentence? 🤷‍♀️

You do have a point and it is fair enough. The problem I feel with this particular page (aside from the obvious spamming) is that people are mad at the wrong thing?

Yes the writer shouldn't have involved sensitive topics at all (specially seeing as they aren't willing to justify their decision). But rather than getting mad at that, people are blindly rage spamming everywhere misinformation as an absolute truth and refuse to acknowledge the fact that there could have been a mistranslation. (Believe me this one genius dared to call me zionist simply because i said that the news banners said that Izmael did the kidnapping 🤦‍♀️).

Half of them don't even know why they are outraged (noticed alot of comments on IG sounded like they thought the main concept of the drama is Genocide pro and not that 1 line caused the contraversy).

Most of the accounts attacking Jang Gyu Ri's account honestly need to learn the basics again...it's so obvious a few keyboard warriors saw the post on X and just found their new "mission" without actually doing even their basic due diligence to understand what happened.
🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Honestly I am glad this didn't trend in Korea since it would have been so unfair for something like this to ruin her career🤷‍♀️

Actually it's more common that you think. Check most of TVN's popular -or there I say almost all - romcom drama pages from 2024 for further context.

It's unavoidable usually (and tbf MDL is a democratic site). Since it's been barely a week and the issue this time caught more attention, things are abit more out of control than usual.

Power of internet eh?

Genuine question How is Baek Sa Eon(fake) alive after the episode 11 stunt and how did Baek Sa Eon(real) die?…
Heeju was under alot of stress and exhaustion at the time so when she heard the gun shot she thought it was SE who died (rest is a nightmare induced from the above).

In reality the cops shot Real SE before he could pull the trigger.

604 intl. area code is British Columbia (Canada) not Morocco

It's a kdrama- kdramas are known for cheesy and unrealistic plots (specially romance genre). Even the cast promised that there will be more fluff mid season onwards than thriller since this is a romance drama so fans who saw these reels popping up on their SNS knew what to expect already

Help! I really want to watch it but I heard the last two episodes kind of ruined the show, is it fine if I watch…
If you watch ep 12 with the realization that the ML only had barely 2 weeks to absorb his "character development" vs. overcome a lifetime of trauma and imposter syndrome/ obsessive need to protect the FL (even from himself), you can understand the ML's actions better and enjoy the drama (also drama too makes it clear that they are on the FL's side with this particular scene).

The Argan arc (if you have heard it)- might feel random since they didn't spend too long to flesh out the story properly unfortunately but there are subtle clues throughout the drama that show that the ML used to have experience there as a negotiator / war correspondent so his choice of place isn't as simplified as what it seems.

Ep 12 isn't their best, but if you love the MC, you can still enjoy it since they gave us 20 mins instead of last 5 minutes before the end of the show.

Ep 11 - it was fine but not as sizzling as the previous episodes for obvious reasons (you'll understand when you complete ep 10/ see the preview for ep 11) - more angsty than romantic. The scene that annoys some fans is subjective since while it wasn't the best thing for the ML to do, it is understandable if you consider the first point of this comment.

Basically if you are interested in completing the series, watch it with an open mind but remember it's a kdrama 🙈

(Sorry for the long rant)

she didn’t lie, she really knew it. remember the scene where in A tells hee joo that their accident might not…
In ah is blunt but not very tactful.

She says what she sees without really thinking. The devastation on SE's face at the memorial must have made her realize that SE wasn't going to recover from the fact that his name was the root cause of Heeju's nightmarish life at leadt for a long time.

I highly doubt SE told anything to In Ah either. In Ah is overprotective in her own way, trying too hard to make up for all the pain she caused Heeju growing up. Watching HJ wait for SE hopelessly must have made In Ah just tell her observation.

It's also the reason why HJ isn't close to In Ah at the end of the episode. In Ah was honest with SE but she failed to comfort him and tell those important words "it's not your fault". Nor did she tell HJ about their meeting so HJ could have done damage control sooner.

I'd say if you are honestly interested in the genre, it's worth watching the drama since the first 10 episodes were great IMO (remember this is kdrama land though so don't overthink stuff like injuries- this isn't a documentary😉)

Ep 11 was fine too IMO but a few did complain about the ML's choices by the end of the episode - but I feel like again this is a kdrama about a traumatized overly protective ML, so it's not really surprising either why he did what he did.

Ep 12 - if you have read the novel, you will understand the episode better since they seemed to have rushed that episode by cutting out certain important explanations which in the end made certain scenes feel disjointed unless you remember the warzone hints from ep 1 and SE's reporter friends conversations.
AGAIN, this is a Kdrama and if you are more into SAJU's romance than finding logical answers, you'll probably like the episode for the most part since we did get about 20 mins of their love arc + the drama did address one of the points that annoyed most viewers by letting HJ yell at SE but I guess it wasn't enough for some viewers (i personally liked it since it showed that the drama agrees that SE made a bad choice).🙈

The contraversial scene is right at the end of ep 12 and is easily missed (I actually didn't notice it since the contraversial line is barely 5 secs long and i missed that sub completely). So honestly how that scene affects you depends on what you want to see (not being judgy, just saying since I can't dictate your view and not everybody is reading too much into it specially after the possibility if mistranslation comments came up🙈).

Overall we got a happy ending and they ended it on a cheeky note between the couple so while ep 12 wasn't their best it's not that terrible depending on who you ask.

***
(Personally if you ever plan to watch it, I would recommend you to completely ignore MDL and watch the episodes with an objective mind BUT KEEP IN MIND that SE at the core is deeply traumatized too and the "character development " he had so far only covers a few weeks which isn't long enough to cement his rational thought process)

Sorry for the long rant btw!🙈
