God no! The lines work because he is mature and is able to bring out a "dangerous" ๐ฅ aura. The lines would totally flop if some pretty boy in his 20s said them (no offence to young actors) ๐
Has the actor repeated this behaviour after the video in question? I'm not really familiar with the actor so curious…
Exactly!!!
In many ways he's kind of like Mr Darcy from Pride & Prejudice. Behind his arrogant mask, he's actually a misunderstood softie (at least with his personal life)๐
I particularly prefer it when Yoo Yeon Seok plays nice guys like the two doctors in Hospital Playlist and Dr.…

**** Dom/ sub character- It's very subtle but aside from the affection side, doesn't the FL have a stronger hold on the ML (eventhough she doesn't realize it)?
Rather than dominating her, the FL usually gets her way even if it makes him uneasy? I mean for instance the whole work saga, nobody wants her to work and even he's hesitant because of her safety, but he still ignores his mum's demands. He likes her but sacrifices his feelings in order to keep her safe (even if his technic is terrible for everybody involved).
Also there's a subtle nod to how he puts her first because she has the master bedroom whereas in ep 2, his own room is a much smaller one (it's shown at the end when she rushes back home to see if he's ok).
Technically speaking, the ML's possesive side is also conflicted right? I mean he wasn't planning to marry her originally eventhough he liked her and only did marry her because her mum was going to force her to marry a scumbag and he had an opportunity to protect her? His possessive side only started to come out once HeeJoo started to blackmail him๐
wait so the first kidnapper failed and just let her go right? and then she took the role of the kidnapper hoping…
Even I'm not too sure if she's her actual mum tbh. I recall reading that she was her step mum but it's been a while so I'm not sure if i'm confusing it with another story๐
In the drama so far Hee Joo seems to see her as her own mum based on how hurt she is/ the way the mum asked "who do you take after". At the very least, if she is her step mum, she's been raising Hee Joo since she was really young.
Since her parents used to run/ work at a club, may be it's possible the mum ended up having a affair with the chairman after meeting him there so she divorced Hee Joo's dad?
I can't remember if it's correct sincr it's been awhile but in the novel/ webtoon, Hee Joo makes a comment that implies that the chairman genuinely likes her mum
wait so the first kidnapper failed and just let her go right? and then she took the role of the kidnapper hoping…
The family doesn't want the divorce. Eventhough the family has dirt on PSE's family, it's still advantageous for them to be connected with the "future president".
That's why the mum keeps forcing HJ to try to find ways to get ๐คฐ and please PSE . Seeing as the mum was willing to force HJ to marry a scumbag before PSE married her, I highly doubt she'd care about HJ's wishes.๐
wait so the first kidnapper failed and just let her go right? and then she took the role of the kidnapper hoping…
No worries :)
In ep 1, when HJ's Supervisor/ producer caught her watching Mafia reels, the producer mentioned that HJ used to like to practice signing with PSE's segments because her dream was to share the same screenspace with him by her side (or something like that).
(Also it was implied in the webtoon when they covered her POV of the first time they met - at least that was the understanding i got based on the rough translation)
wait so the first kidnapper failed and just let her go right? and then she took the role of the kidnapper hoping…
The real kidnapper let her go for the moment. The situation was out of control and he probably was too injured too to restrain her. Now that he knows the couple's real situation, he'll probably come back with a more diabolical plan๐
The reason why he treats her the way he does was explained indirectly during the dinner party. His background is too dangerous for her. He likes her but doesn't want her to like him back. He even married her mainly because she was going to end up with a scumbag. So Eun's methods are dubious of course since he comes off as a cruel character but he means well. Just needs some sense knocked into him so he'll understand his actions are hurting her more. The main underlying factor i guess is that he doesn't know that she already liked him too even before the wedding so he probably didn't anticipate she'd get that hurt by his indifference? ๐ ๐ ๐
In a way he saved her by taking her away from her manipulative family but unintentionally, he caused her more pain.
Oh btw her objective is to get out of the marriage not win his affection. She needs 2BN Won to break the contract and leave him which she can't afford. Through blackmail, she hopes to either get him to leave her or give her the money so she can pay the penalty and end the contract herself.
So the kidnapper hasn't thought of going back to her home to get back his seemingly expensive and very well-programmed…
The court case - probably it was a special request. The victim didn't really interact with the other interpreter so may be she prefers HeeJoo for some irrelevant reason.
The negotiation phone- the kidnapper probably has a tracking device in it. It's bound to backfire on the FL soon ๐
ML is probably too worked up to realize that the kidnapper's behaviour is strange. The current suspicion is that it's an affair and HeeJoo's lover is behind the blackmailing (i.e. why the ML is so stressed over the idea that there could be another version of HeeJoo he wasn't aware about as he can't imagine her cheating on him)

I can't remember if it was mentioned in the drama or if i read it but it was mentioned that she's her step mum. Basically she was first married to HJ's dad after her bio-mum died and then later she married the chairman.
The real daughter is from the chairman's own previous marriage before marrying HJ's step mum.
For HJ's sake I do hope that's her step mum because that woman is way too cruel ๐ซ ๐ซ ๐ซ
It's possible they may have changed the mum's arc in the drama though so I might be wrong๐
What I donโt get isโฆ Why did she have to marry him and become his โhostageโ If itโs her family who has…
Her family is not really her family other than by marriage. Her step mum married the Chairman so HJ is basically the Hong family's pawn.
Her real father is poor and needs medical attention which she can't personally afford so she made an agreement with her "mum" to go ahead with the marriage to help her dad.
Since PSE's family has a strong chance of becoming the president in the future, the marriage is extremely advantageous to the Hong family. Since the real Hong daughter (the elder sister) went into hiding, the mum found this the perfect opportunity to score points with the chairman by "saving the day" using Hae Joo as the stand-in bride (I mean it would be humiliating for the Hong family if the public found out that their daughter was a runaway bride).
Aside from all the above, it's implied that HJ already secretly liked PSE and was also in the process of getting forced to marry a scumbag so I don't think she really resisted the marriage that much at least in the beginning.๐คทโโ๏ธ๐
PSE called her his "hostage" so he can purposely kill any potential delulu thoughts she might have on having a loving marriage with him.

He's having an internal crisis ๐คฃ

(His rude behaviour sucks but we know the FL will kick some sense into him eventually based on the teasers out)
Bato has the indo-bahasa version -14 chapters out so far (weekly updates) but it pretty much stopped where ep 2 ends. The only good thing is they cover HJ's pov of her first encounter of SE when they were young. Rest of the story is more or less similar to the drama except for few minor changes.
You can use google lens to translate it but it's abit of a tedious process.
English version of the Manwha is available in several sites but there's only 3 chapters out as of today.
Light Novel is available till chapter 6 in English (which is basically most of the scenes in ep 1.)
The raws are only available on Kakao according to another comment but it's difficult to access them.
This is wayyyyyy better than 50 shades anyway (not really a fan of 50S).
If you are into Contract marriage plots/ grey leads/ misunderstood couples/ romance and suspense, you might like this ๐
It's just that the ML SEEMS to have this particular dark romance coding- dark, brooding, seemingly arrogant and possesive vibe with a hero complex.
The FL is more feisty than the usual damsels in distress (i.e. she's not despite how she looks so far at least).
It's just a more thrilling version of a contract marriage. There's alot of misdirection between the MC which makes the story interesting๐
"Silence speaks louder than words" basically describes their true hidden intentions/ feelings.
In many ways he's kind of like Mr Darcy from Pride & Prejudice. Behind his arrogant mask, he's actually a misunderstood softie (at least with his personal life)๐
